Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. They had no record of our booking, we requested breakfast only to get a knock on the door at 10pm telling us that the chef "didnt want to cook" so we would have to have cereal. However when we down to the restaurant the next morning nobody was there. We went to a wedding on the second night and when we got back at 12.15 the hotel was locked and nobody was there to let us in.

We were not given a curfew, nor were we given a key to unlock the front door so we stood in the rain for half an hour trying to get hold of someone from the hotel with no luck. Spent half the night trying to sleep in the car and then finally managed to find an open ground floor window to gain access into the hotel. Never had to break into our own hotel before. Definitely would NOT recommend staying here.

Very quaint, frozen in time, loved the cosy atmosphere in the pub, just on the ground floor, "where everyone knows your name". Was great having a meal and a beer and then walking upstairs. Lovely staff. Problems were the shower's electric box didn't work, had to switch rooms, ended up upgrading. No hairdryer in the hotel. Wi-Fi didn't work for 24h and no-one fixed it. Even then, I would definitely go back, I love small inns on the side of the road and this one's location, is in the middle of many historical sites reachable by car.

Great to have a pint of Wicker Man ale in the bar which served as the interior of The Green Man in the classic movie. Even got to meet someone who appeared as an extra! Some great nods to the movie, photos, paintings etc.

We took one look at the place from the outside and we decided we did not want to stay. It looked so run down. There wasn't much paint on the outside. The net curtains looked as though they had never been washed. So we went we saw and we walked away.

A week away from yorkshire spent in Creetown. The staff and local customers in the ellangowan hotel ' wickerman bar' were so welcoming. Great, chatty atmosphere. Although we didn't eat there, there was plenty of the local residents eating there and even ordering food for take outs!
