We are passionate about food, we want you to experience a true flavour of Dumfries and Galloway. We carefully select our suppliers and use wherever possible local produce. Our head chef Ian Barron has been at the Hotel for 16 years, testament to his love of the region, the job and the food. We hope you enjoy your experience with us either in Artistas or the less formal Bistro.

Really good food, breakfast and dinner. Excellent staff and a lovely room although ours was ground floor with noisy neighbours above for a couple of nights tho that's not the hotels fault. The room would benefit from venetian type blinds to maintain privacy while keeping the window open for ventilation. I would be very happy to stay again.

This review is just for the hotel, our evening meal in the restaurant was good. When we arrived at our room we discovered the lounge area hadn't been cleaned at all with dirty glasses and several empty beer cans from the previous guests left behind. This really isn't acceptable in times of covid. I pointed this out, the room was cleaned and I received an apology.
I would have chalked this up to bad luck but at breakfast the following day things got worse. We arrived shortly after the start of service and were told the vegetarian option had already sold out. This didn't give my friend many options so he ordered porridge and me a grill. It was clear that service was slow but eventually my friends porridge arrived so I was hopeful my grill would follow.
It didn't. I could see tables that arrived after me receiving their food so asked if mine was on it's way. After a check the waiter confirmed it would be a 'couple of minutes'. It wasn't. So after a total wait of 1hr 15 I left without it. On departure I was offered another apology and a bacon sandwich. Overall 150 for a room that hadn't been cleaned, one bowl of porridge and plenty of apologies. Not good value at all. And thank you for the character assassination in your response to my review

Had the most Fabulous stay at the Selkirk Arms Hotel (2 nights) end May 2022 - the rooms are warm and comfortable, with the most Friendly staff offering the best service! The Food was outstanding and Chris (owner) ensured that my wife and me had the most Special time in Scotland serving up the best delicacies from the kitchen. The breakfast was the Best breakfast spread in our whole one month trip!
The restaurant is value-for-money and must be on every traveller's pit-stop and the pleasant ambience is something that draws you back for another visit! Well done to Chris & his team at the Hotel for keeping the place the Most Top Rated Hotel in Kirkcudbright! Thank you once again for offering us the Best Time of our trip! :)

Had a meal here with a local couple who no longer drive due to age. Comfortable, clean, cozy restaurant with somewhat small but attractive menu and good prices. I had a Korean chicken sandwich, he had a burger, and she had an appetizer plate of 4 excellent local scallops at a very reasonable price considering present market price, well presented and enough for her (smallish) appetite.
All of us had the chips, which were perfectly done and seasoned. All portions easily sufficient. Good staff, well stocked bar and skilled bartender. If sunnier, we might have sat outside. Highly recommended.

Four of us went for a dinner to celebrate our wedding at the nearby Registry office. Everything was perfect - a great menu with freshly-cooked, delicious food, including veggie and vegan. Despite a busy dining room, the staff team were attentive and friendly, the service couldn't have been better. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Everything from our arrival to our departure was fantastic. The receptionist was extremely friendly as was Chris the owner who showed us to our room. The room was lovely, well appointed with the most comfortable bed. We chose the Valentine's menu with wine flight. The food was amazing, wine was delicious. We've been to many Michelin Star restaurants and the food at the Selkirk Arms was on a par if not better than some we've visited. Breakfast was fantastic. The serving team are a credit to Chris, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We can't wait to visit again. Thank you.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday. We were slightly unprepared and hadn't booked a table in advance, we did however, phone ahead of our arrival to check that they had space and booked a table for our arrival in 15 minutes time. On arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who led us through to the booking system where we were "met" by the manageress who kept her back to us whilst barking that we were the table that had only just booked.
We ordered lunch, deciding to opt for main courses and then dessert. Our food arrived and was very nice. However, we were then made to feel even more unwelcome when a gentleman, who appeared to be the owner, entered the dining room and took the time to go around every table welcoming everybody and checking everything was ok, only to get to our table to completely ignore us without even an acknowledgement of our presence, the only table in the dining room to be completely ignored.
Nothing like being made to feel so unwelcome to completely put you off your lunch. We promptly asked for our bill and left, deciding to go for dessert elsewhere. As our faces so clearly did not fit, we'll be sure to take our custom elsewhere in the future.
