Absolutely loved this place amazing decor throughout everywhere filled with elegant furnishings. Lovely food great location. The staff were amazing. If I had to leave one negative comment it would be the room itself could do with a bit of TLC (carpet change) (better shower) other than that amazing x

The stylish Angel Hotel is situated in the most optimal location for exploring historic Bury St Edmunds. This hotel has has plenty of character -creaky floorboards, worn carpets etc, however don't let this put you off. You will find a timeless classic, vintage aesthetic. I would like to single out Steve and Vanessa for their professionalism in looking after us during our stay.

OK - Room & cleanliness Poor - 1. Showers broken, The hot water flow wasn't good at the showers, it switches between hot and cold randomly which is uncomfortable. 2. RECEPTION STAFF, they are POOR. As almost the face of the experience they need to be decent at least, here they are just POOR, it leaves a poor taste so TRAIN them better. At checkout the lady asked me if my stay was OK, i said it was alright to which she asked me WHY as if she were INTERROGATING me, Upon hearing my reason of hot water, she just ignored it, let alone saying a courteous I am sorry to hear that. Nor, we will fix it etc. Plain ignoring.
I even asked her is that it and gave her a few seconds to may be deal with it politely. She responded will get the maintenance guy to fix it. i found it funny and not a 5 start experience. 3. Getting to their reception through intercom was difficult, had to try 4 times to get through. Similar rude experience at check-in, Not a warm reception you will expect at a 4 star hotel. Good : Decent Ambience but it can be better given this is BURY

The amount of time I've walked past this place and never went in. but on entering was a nice welcoming feeling, table service is a nice feeling, cocktails were amazing. Recommend this place, and definitely be returning. The bar man tonight, was polite and patient and knew exactly what to do and drinks within minutes.

I have always loved The Angel Hotel - its a wonderful place to meet friends in a vibrant and stylish setting where the staff are super helpful and friendly! We most recently had our very belated Christmas Party and the staff were faultless. With having to deal with a booking of 16 - we were thoroughly looked after and spoilt. Particularly recommend the crab/salmon cake to start and the espresso martini (both delicious!) Thank you to all the team at The Angel hotel :-) See you soon x

My daughter and I have just returned home after having had the most wonderful stay at this amazing hotel. It had always been my dream to have a night there with my husband but sadly this was never to be, as he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last year. As yesterday was my birthday, my daughter and myself treated ourselves to a one night stay.
From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble. I would like to pay special tribute to " Millie", to whom I spoke when making the booking over the telephone. She was so incredibly kind when I got rather upset while explaining the demise of my husband and that it was my birthday. On arrival, we found that she had upgraded us to the nicest room you could ever imagine and, on entering our room we saw sweets and a card left by the team.
A really lovely and much appreciated gesture. The food was out of this world, so beautifully presented and plenty of it. Compliments to the chef! I am so happy to have been able to fulfil my dream and cannot thank Millie and whole team enough, for the wonderful way in which both myself and my daughter were treated. Thank you all. I am sure that my daughter and her husband will be visiting in the future as my son - in -law now wants to experience what we did!

The food was delicious, we were very lucky that we could come in without booking on a very wet and windy Sunday. We were celebrating my partners birthday, the restaurant/bar is beautiful, there's so much to see. Will definitely come again. Thank you to the staff, who were all so friendly and helpful even though they were very busy and having to deal with a leak too!

An overall amazing place to stay and eat at. The decoration is very modern but with their own unique twist. The music plays at a perfect volume (with good music too) which creates a very calming atmosphere. The staff were extremely polite and natural and were always at hand if you needed anything and the most important part was the meal. I had the slow roasted chicken in a mushroom sauce and it was out of this world.
The chicken was cooked perfectly, so tendor and juicy. The sauce simply complimented the chicken. All in all, it was a beautiful experience and I can't wait until we go again! Thank you to all staff for providing such a great experience

We stayed at the Angel for my husband's 50th. We couldn't recommend this establishment enough. The food, cocktails, and hospitality were next to none. We would go back in an instance. What we noticed most was the warmth and friendliness from the staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay the best experience possible. Chivalry came in bucket loads and was lovely to still see it and appreciate the finer details which in life has unfortunately become a dying trend. The room was large, spacious and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. And let's not forget about the copper bath!

A group of 16 of us went for a meal in the vault. A very nice venue that kept the excellent staff fit going up and down the stairs, but they worked well. Excellent meal and drinks. Just mind the cocktails as they can soon run up the bill as they are rather tasty. Certainly worth booking for private parties.

I booked two rooms at the Angel Hotel last month the night before my wedding. We got ready there in the morning and had a meal in the restaurant after the ceremony. The staff were all so helpful and friendly, the rooms were perfect and the meal was amazing! Everyone was very impressed. We can't thank you enough for all of the help planning for our big day and we hope to be back for dinner again very soon!

Not a great experience. The am since is OK. The food however was served Luke warm except for the croquette which had obviously been deep fried briefly before being served (it had a twice fried look and taste). The serving staff didn't really know what was being served from the menu. Not once was I asked how my meal was nor did any of the staff really seem to care.
Probably won't return based on this experience as the food was not only below par BUT it was expensive. The saving grace was that the Chancellor picked up half of the tab :-)

Whenever I come to the UK to visit my family I try to take a trip to Bury St Edmunds and the Angel Hotel. The wine list is reasonable and in this case we had an excellent Malbec. The menu is very diverse and has many alternatives that I wanted to try. I am glad 5 of us went so we could share tastes and I'll report on the dishes I tasted. Grilled Squid in Chilli. amazing, grilled to perfection (just cooked enough, not tough or dry). Crab Ravioli, OK but not exceptional. Lambs Kidneys on toast also amazing, great taste and consistency.
Main plaice was fresh and delicious. Duck was cooked just right and not fatty at all, cherry sauce tasty. Steak was exceptionally good but the star of the meal was the rump of lamb which melted in the mouth. The service was very good and the restaurant has a good ambiance. Prices were very reasonable and would have been double in the capital. This really is excellent British food with the best ingredients and a very creative chef. To my taste it's a solid 5 star establishment. (In a very elegant country setting).

Great dinning experience from start to end. Make sure to reserve a table. We had good seating and attentive service. Our meals were a 50/50 of good and bad. For starters, we had the crab ravioli and the smoked scallops. The scallops were delicious while the ravioli were disappointing. For our main course we had the Guinea fowl and the duck (the duck is currently not on their online menu).
Once again we were split. The fowl was well prepared and tasty while the duck was dry and disappointing. There are a number of other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying so we will most likely be headed back to the Angel Hotel
