We invite you to step out of the hustle and bustle of your busy world and relax in our peaceful and charming inn. The inn's exposed timber beams and old fireplaces retain the atmosphere of a bygone era. Enjoy a candlelit dinner in our restaurant where great home cooked traditional food is our specialty. The Six Bells is a perfect country escape set on the edge of the village green, near the duck pond in the pretty Suffolk village of Bardwell. Originating in the late 1500s, the Inn was enlarged in the 19th century and more recently by ourselves.
Services
The Six Bells was used in the filming of several episodes of the famous TV series Dad's Army. The old Barn and Stables (now the bedrooms) are also said to have been used in certain episodes. The opening sequence was filmed at Knettishall Heath and many of the countryside scenes were also shot there.
We will need your name, telephone number, address & dates of the nights you wish to stay. If you are booking though any of the voucher schemes we accept please advise us of this at the start of your call. We are a small family owned and run establishment and when we take holidays we sometimes close. We do try to divert telephone calls to our mobile phone but as yet are not able to answer emails whilst we are away. Please bear with us.
OUR FOOD The pork, lamb, chicken, steak and other meats we serve is purchased from our local butcher and comes from farms in Norfolk & Suffolk. Our greengrocer grows most of the salad items on his farm near Diss and provides us with as much local produce as possible. If a dish contains nuts in its recipe they are mentioned in the description or name of the dish. However we cannot guarantee that any dish is free from traces of nut.
We pride ourselves on our good locally sourced food, We offer a traditional Full English Breakfast featuring our butcher's homemade pork chipolatas (the butcher is a Local family owned with over 80 years trading) and Suffolk produced bacon, And for an idea of the food we offer for your evening meal please see our Evening Menu, again using our local butchers meat and vegetables from our local greengrocer.

Nice and lovely stuff, very welcoming. The area itself is very quite and peaceful, nicely looked after. Lots of trees and flowers, if you like being surrounded by nature the place is for you. The room wasn't very isolated from the sound, you can hear people talking in the next room and their TV being on, all evening and early in the morning. Also, because the room doors are so old, the lock is not working very well and you can hear everything from outside too, but I liked the birds chirping in the evening. Breakfast was lovely. In summary I'd love to come back here for sure, I didn't really mind the little things, just making people aware.

Unfortunately missed our first night due to storm and power cut, but then a lovely stay, great food and drinks, including excellent Sunday veggie and non-veggie roast in the evening (quite a rarity), plus great breakfasts. Also friendly, hard working staff. Only area for improvement would be the accomodation which was 3* not 4* (a bit old and jaded, very small bathroom and shower definitely needed upgrading).
