The Seacote Hotel is wonderfully situated at St Bees on the Solway Firth coast and is within a short drive of the beautiful English Lake District. St Bees is a small and historic village with many points of interest. The Priory of St Mary & St Bega, dating back to the 12th century, and the fine Public School, founded by Archbishop Grindal in 1583, enjoy pride of place in the village.

We stayed 27 dec - 3 jan at Seacote park on a touring caravan pitch, the pitches have great sea views, level & fully serviced. Which is a must for me wherever I take my caravan. The only downside is that the toilet block & chemical toilet disposal, which I think was built & last updated in the 1960's. Although clean & plenty of hot water seriously need's renewing!
We also visited the Hartley's tea room & cafe, 150yrds or so from the site, which has lovely food & very friendly staff. New Year's Eve was spent at the Seacote hotel, which again is a bit dated. But very friendly staff & generous food portions. On the whole this could be a lovely site with a bit of investment

Ideal holiday park if you just want the beach for dog walks - no entertainment on site but that does not worry us. The reason I have only given 3 stars is cos a lot of the net curtains were torn - surely they could have taken down or replaced; and the shower in disabled caravan was not looking it's best. However the main twin room gives plenty of room for using wheelchair.

Camped here for 2 nights Friday and Saturday. The park mainly caters for static caravans, which appear to be long term ownership. The camping field is separate from the caravans, which is nice but means it is about 250 yards from the only toilets and showers, which were clean, if a little dated. The majority of the campers appeared to be coast to coasters, using it as a one night stop before setting off.
It's a 2 minute walk to the beach and about 15 into the main part of town. Very good value for money and some wonderful views. Biggest downside is that some of the caravan owners seem to think the camping area is a dog walking section. We had dogs on the site as late as 10.30 pm and as early as 6am, barking around the tents, doing their business which I thought was really out of order, especially when they could see people were eating at dinnertime. totally unnecessary.

Stopped in for dinner at recommendation of our b&b host. Hostess inquired if we had a reservation, but then, without irony, said she could fit us in to her nearly-empty dining room. Sent us to the only table without a view of the beach. When we asked for another, she replied that the others were reserved. They remained empty the whole evening. Food, however, was superb.
I had the mussels. My companions the baked Brie and satay starters, Thai salad, and I forget the other. Well-prepared and -presented from a chef who clearly knew her craft. If you go, phone ahead. The location is great and the food worthy of a drive. But expect desultory service.

We only got there by chance and there was "nothing to write home about". The whole place looks empty, rough and neglected. Maybe, the Cafe is OK but we didn't go in. The Hotel looked so deserted we hardly dared to try the door. To our surprise the door to the bar was open. The huge place was empty and almost spooky. After some time an elderly woman came and we could order from the limited choice of drinks. After some chatting the lady of the house became more friendly and even fetched a couple of leaflets for us from a back room, which took quite a while. Peculiar place.
