The Strands Hotel was built around 1800 as a Hotel and Post House. This Old Traditional Hotel was taken over in June 2006 by Mark and Lesley Corr which they run with their family and chef's who are totally focused on cooking to a high standard, using local produce whenever possible. There is a main bar with a log fire, a snug bar with log fire, a dining room , a small residents lounge and 11 letting bedrooms ( all of which are different ), ample parking spaces and a great beer garden

Went twice on a recent trip and had a mixed bag. First time, the pub was very busy but we got served OK and the food was decent. Missing some items off the menu but hey it was busy these things happen. Second time, a lot quieter but less staff. Food again was OK but when we asked for desserts we were told no, didn't have time to do it. Understaffed and just couldn't do it.
In my eyes, not the staffs fault but management not having enough staff. I do get that there is a chronic shortage of staff in hospitality at the moment but if you haven't got enough staff to put a few dollops on ice cream in a bowl it's not good enough. We didn't go back after this.

Firstly the location of this hotel & pub is truly stunning! A beautiful & quiet part of the Lake District. The owners have created a wonderful venue with its own microbrewery gin distillery and accomodation. I tried several of the cask ales all very enjoyable, we ate in the pub both nights & again excellent cuisine which we all enjoyed. A great breakfast setting us up for a days walking.
The accomodation is clearly restricted due to the age of the building and modern safety standards so feels slightly ruined upstairs by & unfinished fire doors but spotlessly clean. Go and enjoy if you can get in!

Fantastic hotel/Inn/Pub with superb staff. Location is breathtaking and the food is absolutely gorgeous. Only 4 stars as the food was not consistent so not sure if was a diffrent chef but other customers also noticed and bickered about the drop in standards. The rooms are pretty tiny with a tiny bathroom but its to be expected in a lovely dated Inn. I would visit again for sure!

A wonderful pub and accommodation set in the heart of Wasdale. Surrounded by mountains and a lovely small village. The pub has its own brewery and serves its own beer and gin. The food is excellent and big portions. We booked using booking.com and got a very good deal. The owners are great to talk to and you can ask to have a tour. Would recommend a stay here. Great base for walking and dogs and muddy boots welcome.

Stayed at the Strands for 3 nights in October and loved it! Thanks very much to Lesley and her friendly team who were all brilliant. Had a lovely comfy and warm room. Breakfasts were superb. Other meals served over at the Screes were hearty and delicious and included some great vegan choices. Oh, and the home brewed beers are gorgeous! That is all on top of breathtaking local views and walks. Simply a superbly run and wonderful country pub in a perfect setting!
