The Chase Hotel, set close to the beauty of the English Lakes, is a Georgian hotel built in 1840 in the attractive and historic Cumbrian town of Whitehaven. Set in two acres of landscaped gardens, The Chase Hotel is quiet and relaxing despite the close proximity to the town centre. Rooms are clean and decent. Person serving at the bar wasn't very pleasant. Wife and I got in at 2230 to be told we could only have one drink as they were closing. The bar staff behaviour and attitude left us feeling we were a bit of an inconvenience as she wanted to close up. Shame really as the rest of the staff couldn't have been nicer.

This is a lovely hotel. Very clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. The food is very good quality. But (and the reason I've only given 4 stars) is that the bathroom light comes on automatically. Why do hotels think this is a good idea? When you get up to go to the loo in the middle of the night, the last thing you want is to feel like you're being irradiated by bright lights, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn them off. I don't understand what is wrong with a light switch.

Hi y'all. Visited The Chase Hotel last week for a couple's evening supper, got fantastic service and fantastic food in a relaxed, elegant setting with a well stocked bar and a simple but delicious menu. Our 3 course meals came to 70ish including drinks with one of the meals being a super tasty, properly cooked rib-eye steak. Parking is on site with ample room and disabled parking right outside the entrance door, this place is easily accessible by wheelchair and the tables are of a good height and chairs are very comfortable. Will definitely return again and again

Slow response from staff on arrival asked why we 'didn't ring the desk bell' which we had done twice with no response. Receptionist was rushing to get away from desk whilst signing us in. Fairly good location. Room under par, old fashioned decor but clean. Bathroom light stayed on for ten minutes after switched 'off' on wall switch. Breakfast very good and efficient pleasant waitress.
