The Pinegrove has a long and storied history in the city of Carlisle. Once known as a 'monk's haven', the building has been operating as a hotel since the 1960s, providing accommodation for those visiting Cumbria or travelling across the border. The main hotel building was built in 1877 for a wealthy wine merchant, and many of its original features, such as the tiled entrance hall and ornate cornices, remain to this day. One of our favourite features is the beautiful stained-glass window which was added to the first-floor landing in 1893.

Built in 1877 for a wealthy wine merchant the Pinegrove Hotel has many original features such as the tiled entrance hall and ornate cornices. One of our greatest features is a beautiful stained-glass window which was added to the first-floor landing in 1892. Before it became the Pinegrove, the victorian property was once owned by the Bishop of Carlisle, who used it as a 'Monks Haven'.

Stayed in family room at Pine Lodge and was very impressed. We arrived earlier than booking in time but we were allowed into our room. From the first member of staff to the last, I found them all to be very polite. The bar was very clear and well priced. If I was in area again, I would certainly use again.
