Simplest review I've ever written. We were lucky to get a cancellation for the week and from the moment we arrived we felt welcome. Julie runs a lovely hotel based around a luxury refit of this old rustic forge. We stayed in room 1 which was big and tastefully decorated with a door out to a private patio off the central garden area. The bathroom is modern with a superb walk-in shower.
The breakfast choice is extensive and made from quality ingredients. There is private off-road parking at the front of the hotel. This is 5 mins walk from the centre of Totnes. Julie and Mike make excellent hosts and I cannot recommend this hidden jewel highly enough. An truly lovely place to stay to explore Devon's South Hams area.

I'm very fortunate to have found The Old Forge -- it's become my home away from home thanks to the incredibly gracious hospitality, the warm welcomes, the cozy rooms, and the delicious breakfasts, which are all cooked to order. (As a vegetarian, the latter is of particular importance and I was offered eggs, veggie sausage, spinach, tomatoes, toast - as well as a bowl of yoghurt with fruit and granola).
Quite a variety, and all quite delicious. The hotel itself is only a few minutes walk from the town center, with just enough distance to maintain a level of quiet and tranquility, especially at night. In the morning, just the sound of the birds. Having come from a busy street in Los Angeles, this was a welcome change and much appreciated. Aside from a stroll into town, the hotel is also close to the river and to Longmarsh, a wonderful riverside path, which wound up being a nice bookend to many of my days.
I'm looking forward to staying at The Old Forge again. Thanks to everyone - Julie, Margaret, Mike - for making my stay a warm and wonderful one. Couldn't have asked for more.

What a fortunate find, this B&B/hotel, was. It's nestled in its own grounds with plenty of room for parking safely off the street. The bedroom was beautifully presented and very clean. There was a delightful real posie on the mantelpiece, soft extra wraps in case you feel cold, along with matching cushions, easy to connect Wi-Fi and nice thick walls so you feel very private.
The bathroom is delightful, with its power shower, high quality toiletries and fluffy soft big white towels. We weren't surprised to learn that proprietor Julie has many years of experience of high-quality hotel management, and it shows in her demeanour and professionalism, along with her friendly, personable nature. The breakfast was delicious, with its locally sourced ingredients, all served up in an airy and spacious conservatory or within the main building itself. Your choice. A total pleasure.

We had a brilliant stay at The Old Forge, the bedroom was large and confortable. The entire place was spotless, the host was really lovely and accommodating. We had access to an outdoor space which was really pleasant with a view to the church. It's located in a really quiet area without cars and hussle, just the birds to wake up to. We couldn't be happier about our stay, brilliant sunny get away at the end of a long winter.

Julie & Mike, the owners have made this a cracking place to stay. The rooms are cosy and well presented, the location is spot on with a 3 minute walk over the bridge to the foot of the highstreet. They were so welcoming and made our stay so relaxing. We will definitely come back for a Holiday when we are not house hunting, thank you Julie and Mike
