Those tasty sausages, bacon and black pudding all come from the consistently good Masham Sausages Butchers. Are predominantly from J.M.P. in Sedbergh, they bring us toilet rolls, flour, sugar, butter, sauces, oats, uht milk & coffee sticks. The juicy tomatoes & scrummy mushrooms for those vegetables on your breakfast plate, as well as all our fruit for the jams & marmalades, come from the friendly guys at Stephensons from Appleby. The delightful Elijah Allens and reliable Spar, both in central Hawes keep us stocked up with general groceries.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Herriots, centrally located in the quaint little town of Hawes. Comfortable bed, spacious and powerful shower (much needed after a week in a campervan) and beautiful view from the top floor over the surrounding hills. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts really friendly, welcoming and made us feel at home. Highly recommend and we will return for sure.

We arrived with soaking wet boots and feet after a 14 mile walk in the rain and were told to remove our boots and leave them in the hallway. There was no heating on and they were not going to get dry without being put in the drying room that was advertised on the information. After asking Glenn about this he said he would put them on the boiler and when we asked if he had any newspaper to put inside them he said it wasn't necessary.
Everywhere else we have been the hosts have offered this as standard. In the morning when we were leaving we found the boots back in the hallway still soaking wet and cold to put on for our walk that day. Glenn said they had been on the boiler but we asked him if the boiler had been on. He said we would never be satisfied with anything. We were in such a rush to get out of the place we forgot to take the sandwich we had ordered. The room was nice but we were not made to feel welcome.
