Spent one night here, very basic room, shared bathroom which was very shabby and not terribly clean, large wardrobe but no hangers so of no use whatsoever, no spoons for tea and coffee, spacious family room with a sofa and TV which was a bonus, unfortunately no breakfast available which we were only informed of in the evening so had to make alternative arrangements, very noisy disco downstairs which kept us awake until nearly 1am, so we had very little sleep, overall it was adequate for a brief stopover and reasonably priced, a few basic improvements could make a big difference, such as a mirror and sink in the room

What a lovely find. Such a pretty spot and such a warm and friendly welcome. The food truly is excellent, I had the duck and the little duck leg pie to compliment the breast was delicious. My husband had the pork, which was perfectly cooked and cleverly paired with apricot and pine nuts. Pudding though was the standout winner for me - I didn't think it was possible to make souffle taste like Christmas pudding but believe me it can be done!
The wine list could maybe be better but the Spanish red we had was tasty. Bed was super comfy and the room blissfully quiet. Decor was a bit eclectic in places but to be honest that just added to the charm. Go here - make a detour and go. They even have cool yurts by the river - we'll be back to give that a try next time.

Such a lovely welcoming place. We stayed in a yurt and absolutely loved it. Was so comfy cosy and peaceful. situated next to a river with free range hens roaming around. Very environmentally friendly. And a beautiful locally sourced breakfast in the hotel opposite the yurts. Definitely would recommend especially for couples looking to get away for some peace.

A great little hotel! We stayed here for our anniversary weekend, doggy friendly and the food is superb and deserves its place in the top 50 Gastro pubs. The haddock scotch egg is sublime : very friendly staff, the service is great. We had room 14 which is a little tired but next time we stay, we will go for room 15 as that looks amazing!

Loved this dog friendly pub. We spent the night in two of their three Yurts;was very enjoyable. There is a compost toilet and an outdoor shower that can be used by those using the Yurts;but it's not for everyone. Facilities for washing etc are available over in the pub during opening hour's. We had.a lovely evening meal too in the pub part where dog's are allowed. No dog's allowed in the restaurant.

Beware the online restaurant booking system! We have just left the restaurant unfed having 'booked' a table through the online system earlier in the day. The system allowed for a request for a variety of times and gave no indication of limited availability. On booking, I received an email which said: " Our team are quickly checking our bookings to make sure we can accommodate you.
If there is any reason we are not able to confirm your desired date and time, a member of the team will be in touch via telephone or email to provide alternative times." Having received no such phone call or email, we arrived several hours later for our reservation, we were told that the online system is only a request for a reservation, that they had been very busy today, and that since we had not received a separate confirmation we did not actually have a booking.

I love the Black Swan. I've dined here 2 times now, both excellent! This pub is off the beaten path located in a town called Ravenstonedale. It features 16 guest rooms (I think) upstairs which explains why it is always so packed. They have a good sized bar area where you can grab a table if they are free, have a drink, play board games. The place is decorated beautifully. It's a modern twist on your typical old English pub.
Still features exposed wooden beams. It's very charming. Check out the sitting area in the front. Nice spot to lounge with a coffee after the meal. I find the menu here small, but I've never had a problem finding something I like. There are standard pub dishes like fish and chips plus more modern gastropub food. Some people may find the way the food is presented to be peculiar.
For example, the chicken liver pate was served on a bed of decorative pebbles. I think it works for a place like this. The quality of the food here is excellent. Everything always tastes freshly made to order and served piping hot. Service is prompt and polite. I think the only gripes I found are the parking lot is too tiny and there isn't a proper cocktail menu.
With a bar stocked the way theirs is, it deserves a nice cocktail menu. This pub has become a staple for my trips to the Dales. I highly recommend it for those travelling through the area.

They discribe themselves as Hotel & Village Store, but we only went to the pub/resturant. This place is in the middle of nowhere which seems to be common for a lot of really nice pubs in England. Just off a minor road on and even smaller road, this takes some faith if you are driving in the dark. We were greeted with a nice welcome and asked if we had reservations which means this place must get busy.
It was fairly empty on a Wednesday night there are several rooms including a proper dinning area. The bar is reached on two sides of the dinning room with bar stools in both rooms and a lot of small tables. Great, traditional, British, old style pub and restuarant. One young waiter seemed new and eager to help while the other young waiter seemed to be the "boss" and was a bit colder and commanding the other two.
No worries as that is not why we were there. I ordered a chicken pie and my wife ordered a salad and local salami platter. They were all great. Because the three waiters were more or less kids, none of them had tried any beer and could not give me any advice. I had two of the local beers which were good. A few more people came in to had drinks and dinner as well. It seems like a nice place to stay over as well, but that will have to wait until another day.
