Hawes in Wensleydale is the ideal base for exploring the delights of James Herriot's Yorkshire and the Dales National Park. The countryside can be enjoyed on foot, on horseback, (there are pony trekking stables nearby) or by car. There is much to see, the rugged limestone scenery with its unusual features such as the 'Buttertubs', deep and strangely shaped holes close to the road to Swaledale through Buttertubs Pass, north of Hawes.

Nicer than expected, rooms better than pictures, clearly been redecorated recently. Very, very clean with very comfy bed and hot, powerful shower. Lovely and cosy after a wet hike. Rooms are small but that's the nature of the building, they managed to fit in everything we needed. Enjoyed watching the sheep on the hill opposite with a cup of tea in bed.

Breakfast was the best of the trip. Loads of cold selection and well cooked, big portioned fry up. The lad serving us a breakfast was brill too, nice and friendly and very helpful with us and other walkers. It's a shame we weren't there when the restaurant was open as menu looked good.

Stayed at this hotel for one night. The positives were: Friendly staff Bedroom and bathroom were very clean Dinner in the restaurant was excellent Location was excellent The negatives were: Described as a superior double room, it was very small Only one chair to sit on Only three coat hangers in the wardrobe None of the drawers was wide enough to hold even a folded shirt Only one packet of two biscuits on the tea/coffee tray There needs to be a little more attention to detail to make this room worth 140 for B&B

Lovely little cottage, right in the middle of town. Small but cozy. Clean and comfortable. Kitchen equipped with cooker, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine/dryer. For us essential as two of the group had been walking the Pennine Way, so clean, dry clothes were a god send. Upstairs is a double bedroom and the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and warm and even though it overlooks the main street, traffic ceases by 10 pm so quiet.

The bathroom was fantastic. Shower, double sink, toilet and the bath. What can I say about the bath? A lovely deep, rolltop bath. Another god send for the walkers to relax their aching muscles. Plenty of hot water was available. The next floor is accessed by a very steep staircase. The room is built into the attic and contains two single beds. The two walkers had no complaints about the beds, telling me they were comfortable and it was quiet in the room.

The cottage is very close to all the amenities in Hawes, with parking spaces in front, if you're lucky enough to grab one, otherwise, there is a carpark within easy reach, but you will have to pay to park there. The staff in Cocketts hotel, next door were you collect your key, were pleasent and friendly, though as we didn't need them, we had very little contact with them. All in all a very pleasant long weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again.

One of the best mini breaks we've had Hawes is a lovely place and Cockets is a great place to stay. Good quality clean rooms and caring friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent and I really can't fault the place. Central to the town. Looking forward to our next visit. PS Dog friendly too.

Pretty location On surface rooms look good, but look very tired on looking more carefully. Wallpaper peeling, grime around seal in bathroom. Curtains poor quality and ill fitted. No TV other than Netflix, this wasn't really their fault as mast burnt down. On arrival, the explanation of how things work was non existent, couldn't lock bedroom door and had to ask for a demonstration.

No evening restaurant available, which was disappointing. Breakfast was fair, but not outstanding. Breakfast service was great though, hard working waiter. Probably won't return :

Service was amazing. Room was great. Seafood was so lovely. The breakfast is delicious too. I had a rest day here on my pennine way hike and was throughly relaxed throughout my stay. Highly recommend.

What a stunning little gem. We were lucky enough to sleep in Rachel's luxury self contained cottage next door whilst we did the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. Our stay was wonderful from beginning to end - we were so lucky. Other walkers on the challenge joined from a little closer by in Ingleborough, but it was worth the extra distance for the stunning drive to the starting point as the sun rose over the mountains - possibly one of the most beautiful journeys in the UK! - and the lovely little market town to come back to.

The restaurant was serving beautiful up market fare at an extremely reasonable price. Our dinner was sublime (complete with a lovely chablis & moules marine & outdoor heating and blankets!) and the best part was the short 10 metre walk to the house after such a long trek and weary legs :) Breakfast in the morning was also lovely, setting us off for our journey home. Rachel was ever so friendly and accommodating to our needs so we couldnt thank her enough.

We hope to come back some day soon as this was a truly lovely stay. To any other walkers or those just looking for a nice place to be in the dales, this certainly was it. For the price and the quality of stay, it was on point. Couldn't recommend this place enough!
