The Fat Lamb Country Inn is situated between the market towns of Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen just south of the picturesque village of Ravenstonedale. We offer high quality bed and breakfast accommodation, exceptionally good food and a warm friendly welcome. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a short drive from the Lake District, this traditional 4 star inn makes a superb base for exploring these two popular holiday areas, or the lesser known North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Services
The Fat Lamb has earned itself a well deserved reputation for its good food, all lovingly prepared and cooked on the premises by our own chefs - you won't find any ready made meals at the Fat Lamb. Fresh, locally sourced produce has been an important part of the way we've done business since well before it became trendy, and we've always been proud of the range of our menu.
The Fat Lamb has a long history of offering accommodation to travellers, stretching back some 350 years from its days as a coaching inn on the road from Sedbergh to Kirkby Stephen. Today the Fat Lamb combines modern amenities with good old fashioned hospitality, offering bed and breakfast or half board accommodation in comfortable, en-suite rooms.
The Fat Lamb is a popular destination for motoring enthusiasts of all kinds. Each year we welcome between 20 to 30 Car and Motorcycle Clubs both ancient and modern for weekend / midweek stays or refreshment stopovers, and many more individual riders or drivers who come to see the impressive collection of automobilia and retro collectables on display in the museum bar.
The Fat Lamb is situated in the midst of some of the most spectacular walking terrain in the country. On our very doorstep we have the Howgill Fells, rolling, steep sided hills which can be accessed directly through our own private nature reserve at the rear of the Hotel. Walk in the other direction from the front door and you'll reach Wild Boar Fell at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales which open up to the south.

This is a great find. We live kinda locally, and I'll definitely be making the 30min drive to here again. Yes it's a little tired and dated, but they've made the most of this. Great atmosphere, interesting interior, things to keep the wife and kids amused. Outside space is awesome. Views are great. Food is well worth the price. Go there. 3 months later, just been back for a second visit.
Every bit as good as the first visit. Perhaps better! So accommodating. Great service. Prompt to the table. Every meal a good one for a table of 6. We have a child with allergies, he got to build his own meal. Toys for the kids and so much memorabilia. This place is great?. Back again in 2022. Change of management, and a bit of a refresh without losing any of their individuality. Service better yet. Very accommodating to fussy eaters and know their product well. Go there.

The first time we visited the Fat lamb was for an overnight stay back around 1997. There were Lamas at the rear. It was a quirky and homely place then and I'm glad to see it hasn't changed much since then. We had Sunday lunch there yesterday and it was a pleasant afternoon. I have no doubt that we will be doing it again soon, perhaps when the Tempest has calmed.

As someone who lives in a city the Fat Lamb is set in beautiful countryside. It was fantastic to look out at it from our room. I thoroughly enjoyed the genuine home cooked food. I made my way through the menu, the pies were a particular favourite. Generous and hearty portions. Breakfast a notch below par in comparison to the evening meals. The rooms were definitely tired and very dated.
The floors creaked and rattled the cupboard door every time I moved in bed. Noise travelled easily throughout the thins walls. The most important part though was that the rooms were clean and the showers were very hot. I would stay another night if I was passing through the area on a driving holiday.

We visited The Fat Lamb over the weekend, after a snowy two hour walk, to warm up and grab a bite. We were warmly welcomed into the bar with our Welsh collie and sat by the fire which was nicely tended to throughout our visit! Service was warm, attentive and speedy and when we decided to eat, our food turned up piping hot within ten minutes of ordering!
A good variety on the menu too with vegan and vegetarian options which is a bonus for us! The vegetarian pie and mushroom and red pepper stroganoff were a highlight! Well worth a visit!
