Dating from 1760 this elegant Georgian Coaching Inn, located on Moffat High Street, retains most of its original features. Most notable is the dramatic hotel facade which contrasts with the predominantly Scottish vernacular architecture on Moffat High Street. The open fireplaces in the public rooms offer our guests a warm and cosy prospect, even on the coldest of Scottish winters. The Buccleuch Coat of Arms on the mirror on the stairwell is yet another reminder of the past and historic links with the Duke of Buccleuch.
This hotel is owned by the Smith family who hailed from Zimbabwe and consider themselves very fortunate to have landed up in one of the most beautiful villages and geographic areas in Scotland. As a family, The Smiths have all the attributes to invest in a hotel that takes on so many different skills.
So happy to find somewhere that allowed the dog in. There is a larger area where dogs are not allowed so that should keep everyone happy. Enjoyed the burgers with beef, pork and venison burgers all being tested by our family with the fourth having a small portion of Scampi which was excellent value.
The Museum was founded in the 1970s by a group of energetic Moffat people who wanted to preserve their local heritage for subsequent generations. The Museum was housed in an old Bakehouse until a big modernisation project in 2012/13. Then the purchase of an adjoining property enabled the Museum to expand into the additional space.

This place is fantastic. 2 night stop over while having a lads motorcycle trip. All staff are excellent and all related, definitely a family run and owned business. Nothing is to much for these guys, food top notch with fantastic rooms. Parts of hotel are dated but it all adds to the quirkiness. Ideally placed and equip for bikers. Very secure parking and well worth a visit. We will be back thank you.

If you're a biker touring Scotland you have have to make this a stopover on your route. Look it up - SA food is great - I recommend the Bobotie (however you spell it!.) Dave the owner will give you a personalised riding route if you ask him, and he knows his stuff. An epic 3 hrs tour today. Thanks Dave.

We had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay, secure in the knowledge that everything possible was being done to keep us covid safe. The room was spotlessly clean and beds comfortable. The owners cared for us like family friends rather than hotel guests. Nothing too much trouble. Food excellent too. Can highly recommend.
