Location: Awentsbury Hotel is just a 15 minutes walk to the University of Birmingham campus and has a bus stop closeby (7min walk) with busses running ahout every 10 minutes to the city centre. Also, the quater of the hotel was nice and quite. Facilities: However, it could have been cleaner (especially the floors seemed like they haven't seen a vacuum cleaner in years).
You might also want to bring earplugs since the walls are really thin so you hear every arrival and every conversation. I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, so I can't judge the quality of it. Staff: I can't complain about the staff really, like other reviewers did here. They weren't unfriendly, and I also didn't have trouble being let in as I booked through the hotel website and mentioned my arrival time.
All in all, if you don't expect much, are looking for a simple accommodation close to the uni and take an ensuite room (own bathroom with toilet and shower), I can still recommend staying there for one or two nights.

Way worse than expected, pictures are misleading, rooms are tatty, beds are uncomfy, no decoration and rooms freezing cold as window wouldn't shut aswell as no heating in the coldest days of December. Sheets were stained aswell as owner being surly when we checked in, supposed to be non smoking however people were smoking on the landing leading to our room smelling of smoke, inconsiderate room guests with large amounts of noise all night also politely asked them to quite let down. Website states there is parking however only enough for 3 cars at a push with the "hotel" having atleast 12 rooms, consequing in us having to park on the road which is only permittable on weekends. Would not recommend atall!

Made to feel very unwelcome. Awful customer service, very grumpy and unbelievably rude! Owner actually made lots of rude remarks to us. Started off with no room key and not even an apology about that! Made to pay for adult breakfast for kids but when we ordered it, they didn't want the kids to have full breakfast as they might waste some food! When it came out it was 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, a tomato and some beans. hardly a mega breakfast! Coffee was disgusting. Accomodation was at best below average. We'd have tolerated the shabbyness of it for a simple smile from the owner and low level politeness!

Antique Victorian house very close to the university. The facilities are quite old and a bit outworn. Especially the sanitary installations do not provide much comfort, the water in the shower either gets too warm or too cold. The walls are a bit too thin. The cleanliness was ok. For what you get the price is very high.

A great nights sleep as on a quiet road. To get back in the dark you can see the sign lit up. Comfortable beds and clean. Friendly owners and staff, also very helpful to ask for directions for the attractions. Near to Cadburys world. 24min on a bus number 63 to city centre and back. Bought an 8 all day ticket for two aldylts on the bus. Excellent holiday.

If you have a course at the uni this is the nearest place apart from the conference centre which has become too expensive. Stayed in a single room which wasn't great and a twin and double which were pleasant, well equipped and very well cleaned every day. Breakfast was average. Great location for the uni, off road parking, convenient and reasonably priced.

I have stayed at the Awentsbury 3 times now due to its closeness to the University of Birmingham where I am a visiting lecturer! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, the rooms are basic but comfortable and it is set within lovely grounds! I must say, I enjoy the cooked breakfast that is provided, it is more than adequate!
