Very basic. No lift. Lots of steep stairs. Damp smell. The hallway floors could do with renewing. The room and furniture was tired an dated, our bed had previously been broken and had been subject to a very amateur repair but was still actually very comfortable. The toilet made an awful noise when flushed. The window was quite drafty and the noise from outside late at night would have been unbearable if we had been looking for a good night's sleep.
As it was we had spent the early part of the night elsewhere so only needed a place to sleep. All that being said. the staff were fantastic and extremely helpful but, It is a 2 star hotel charging 4 star prices, if they were to change their prices to reflect the standards of the hotel I would be giving a more positive review.

Pretty lackluster hotel. Would've been nice to have been provided a little bottle of shampoo / shower gel, so that we didn't have to go out and buy some. Would've been nice to have had a hairdryer. An iron wouldn't have gone a miss either. All things that I feel are pretty standard at hotels. Water pressure at the shower was terrible, the water just dribbled out of the shower head, the bottom of the shower also filled up real quickly as well.
Bed was just uncomfortable, not an enjoyable thing to sleep in. Windows are old and kept no heat in, so the room got cold during the night. The place just looks and feels old, in need of a refurb. Staff were nice, but paying 60 a night for a bed and a source of running water seems too high.

We had an awful time overnight at the ambassador hotel, our room was revolting, we was let down for the hygiene and state of the room. The bathroom looked horrendous, we didn't even have hot water or heating, on the other hand the floor boards were thin and some was missing causing our bedroom to be very loud, due to the music being played till 2 am.
The only positive was the breakfast and the lady at the desk as she was very polite and kind. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this hotel, therefore your getting a 1 star.

Arrived earlier than expected went to our room which wasnt up to standard was disappointed but spoke to staff and they couldnt apologise enough was given a different room which was much cleaner and nice. We came downstairs in the evening and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality. We was warned about loud music throughout the night but we heard nothing what was a bonus. Next morning we went down for breakfast which was nice egg over done but that cant be helped. All staff was lovely friendly and helpful we would definitely come again

We wanted an impromptu overnight stay and had a fab time at the Ambassador. Large ensuite room, lovely comfy bed, great food (dinner and breakfast) it was "just the ticket". The staff were very helpful and very friendly. There was a live band and the entertainment and atmosphere made it a brilliant night. Lovely wine! Good location and parking. The hotel has lovely period features and quirky seating on the first floor landing. We were made really welcome. Would definitely go back especially when they had another live band playing! Marilyn M

If first impressions count then walk away, im glad im only staying one night, the windows look like they havent been cleaned since the 1960s, Walking along the corridors i feel sea sick they are that unevenamd talking about floors they are that thin i can almost reach down to the bar below and poor myself a pint, i dont want to know what this is about by the pool table (see picture), the exterior doesnt look like its seen any work since it was first open and neither does 99% of the interior. The best cure for this hotel is burning it down to start again
