Comfortable atmosphere with great quality food. Met with a bunch of coworkers for a send-off dinner and I had the steak. Most of them had the fish and chips which were huge! A nice atmosphere and nicely appointed dishes. The chips were quite tasty as well. We had some starters and desserts as well. All in all, a very nice experience.

I stayed here for 3 nights whilst on a fishing break at Rutland Water. The room had all the amenities you would expect and was always very clean. The only downside is that being an old building there is little soundproofing and you are very aware of people using the staircase and walking in the floor above. I had breakfast in the restaurant and it was very enjoyable with generous portions.
I also ate one evening meal which was also very good. The Admiral also has a lovely beer garden which is nicely laid out. I'd also like to compliment all the staff who were attentive and welcoming. Overall I would recommend the admiral Hornblower

Genuinely awful service from the get go. We arrived and had to ask multiple times for enough glasses and cutlery for the table. We were served warm espresso martinis followed by an hour wait for cold food. On top of that, the servers were rude. Given there were 4 or 5 empty tables and the garden area was also empty I'm not really sure what went wrong tonight, but I'd definitely not come back!

As a belated valentine's we had a 2 night break in Oakham. The food was reasonably priced and delicious -the bream fillets were super. We were in room 4 with the 4 poster, a in little noisy from the bar the first night ( went to bed too early), but a pleasant room and ensuite. Shower head a little on the low side for my 6ft 2 but easily manageable. A lovely village for a short break.

So for the pub, staff and breakfast it is definitely a 5 star (especially the staff). However we did pay to sleep here but couldn't sleep as a result of the AWFUL mattress on the bed (Room 1). Lovely room but awful mattress. Alongside that the toilet didn't flush! Shame really as if these two issues hasn't been issues it would have been a great end to a great day. The staff are the Jewell of this place for sure

Visited the Admiral Hornblower for the first time to have lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the feel of restaurant. We hadn't book but that was not a problem and immediately shown to a table for four. Staff were very professional and the four meals we had were excellent. Good value for money, certainly would return and recommend.

We were looking forward to a delicious meal, and we weren't disappointed. The table was great, big enough, and distant enough from others, with a view of the outside. We received quick, polite friendly service, food quality of the highest level, and a price that reflected the surroundings and comfortable dining room. We'll be back!

Good manners and polite staff. But considering we were a party of 5 and first in for lunch had to wait so long for food. Had to ask for cutlery when food was brought to the table and also had to ask for condiments. The food itself is not a patch on before Covid ( the last time we went) the Fish finger sandwich was more batter than fish. In fact our boy said Birds Eye fish fingers had more fish. Sad but expensive for what we had in quality.

Two night mid-week stay, anniversary gift from the kids. Easy to find, welcoming check in, nice comfy room with all the amenities you'd expect. Evening meal in the pub below was excellent, though not cheap! Food was local sourced and top quality. Only niggle from the stay - the floorboards creaked loudly at every step in the room. Picky though, as it is an old building with lots of character. Overall, winner!

Stayed for two nights in August. My sister and I are both from Oakham area and it was great to find a hotel which felt like the Rutland of old. Fantastic atmosphere and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Stayed in very large twin which was very well equipped. Bar had a really warm and friendly atmosphere and Guinness was very good! We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was exceptionally good. cooked freshly and well presented.
Breakfast was very tasty. good choice, catering for all dietary requirements. Overall our stay was very relaxing and we look forward to visiting again. If I HAD to find a negative. could have done with a few more coat hangers!
