I have enjoyed (though infrequently) visits to Champneys. The products used (their own, Elemis and Clarins) are so wonderful! I'm a particular fan of Elemis. Hot stone massage is excellent here, abd you get a lot of choice to tailor treatments to your requirements and your budget. Which I love. For example today I was encouraged to go due to the Winter Warmer offer: two treatments for 60.
I had a 5 credit to use too. Then upon arrival, I was invited to add boosts to my treatments - just 5 for many or X3 for 12. I chose a cooling eye mask, to upgrade to hot stones, and to upgrade my facial. It was soooo relaxing. The building is very old and higgledy-piggledy but it's part of its charm! The rooms are nice, with very comfortable couches with toasty warm electric blanket underneath.
Perfect in this weather. You are recommended products used in your treatment (s) but there's no hard sell. Just advice, should you wish to have it. Plus there's always some brilliant offers: great gifting and samples or gifts when you buy. I really love the feeling I've snuck away from the "rat race" and entered a spa. I just wish I didn't have to return to reality so quickly!

I feel slightly guilty making a bad review during a pandemic when so many businesses are suffering but I do believe other potential guests should be warned when splashing out on a spa day. My mum and I always do a spa day when I come back to London (I live in NY). This time Champneys was so disappointing. I'd like to start by saying most of the staff are really lovely and apologetic but the owners are cutting corners.
My massage was great (shoutout Anita) but my mums masseuse couldn't give two shits. She hardly spoke to her and made no effort in the massage. We complained and she received a second massage which was (to be fair) amazing. Then we went to lunch. We lined up for 20 minutes to get into the dining room. The menu was pathetic - 4 options of a ceaser salad or a curry or fish.
The salad was some soggy leaves scattered croutons and cheese (worse than plane food). The curry was okay but nothing special. I get we can't have the buffet because of COVID but 4 options? Come on? Only one veggie option.? I overheard some other guests complaining in the sauna, they said they had asked the staff why there were so few options and they were told they couldn't source any more food?! I've been to the supermarket in Tring. needless to say it's fully stocked.
The soup was really good. Again I understand it's a pandemic, but cutting corners and charging the same price for a much less enjoyable experience is not going to help the business in the long term. I doubt many of the guests who were there over the same period of us will be returning. I'm sorry to say today was a major let down

Some areas of the hotel are currently under construction which did not create an issue during my stay. Rooms are very spacious, quiet and comfortable. The wireless Internet service is not the fastest by any means They don't start serving breakfast until 730am which means that I missed breakfast during the 2 days I stayed at the hotel. The hotel did not appear to be particularly busy however the parking lot was always full. All in all the hotel is Very comfortable and quiet and it's a great place to stay.

My wife loves this place, Champneys makes a nice relaxing if a little expensive weekend. If you are using public transport head to Berkhamstead as that station has a taxi rank. I've been a couple of times, once in June and the other in January. In the summer the grounds are good and you can hire bikes to cycle around the Chilterns. I really like the indoor pool which has a lot of natural light.
There is also a gym with various studios for classes and a spa area with a thalassotherapy pool. There is also a relaxing area with an indoor hot tub too. They do extras like massages etc but these cost extra so I've been happy just to use the gym and pools. If you stay overnight the rooms are fairly good. They are better if your room is in the old manor house though. The food is included plus it is all healthy stuff. Stuff like wine costs extra though.

I started with 'This place is going downhill literally by the day. So disappointed.'. but little gestures by restaurant/cafe staff (excluding Reception staff who are pretty useless) make up for flaws and any disappointing moments. Shower was broken for two days dispute logging and chasing fault from day one. Reception staff just went 'ooh' with no offer to even offer a discount on the final bill (or even a slice of cake). Generally, would recommend. The restaurant staff are so attentive it makes it all worthwhile. Treatment this time around was pretty decent too if a little rushed/short. I

Me and my little sister enjoyed a spa day couple of days ago here. After a long debate and several discussions, my sister finally decided that I do deserve a gift from her and it should be a spa day for the both of us. After a short drive from my sister's house, we arrived at the reception just about 10 minutes before 9am. As soon as we checked in, took us about 5 minutes, we have been given our bathrobes and shown the way to the breakfast bar.
Here they had a great choice of fruits, cereal, yogurt and salmon. During our breakfast, we have checked out the schedule and planed our day. Because my sister has already been at the spa previously, we didn't need anyone to show us around. If you are new at the spa, they will assign one of their staff to show you around and tell you all about the available facilities.
We went to the changing room, which for my surprise, was very tidy and clean. Actually from the moment we entered the premises of the centre, I was surprised of the huge garden and the beautiful building in front of us. I wasn't expecting the place to be so fancy. Once we changed to our swimming suits, first activity on our schedule, we went to the swimming pool.
The swimming pool is about 5 feet deep and really warm. We swam for a while and decided to check out something else. My favorite place was the jacuzzi and relaxation area where you can lay on a water bed and enjoy the crackling of burning wood. I actually fell asleep for couple of minutes, but my naughty little sister woke me up, pursuing me to go with her to the gym.
While I do enjoy going to the gym, once in a while;), I think when you are at spa, you should stay away from the gym. This is a day when you relax and enjoy lazying around. LOL The only mistake was the fact that we did not book in any treatments as soon as we checked in and we ended up not being able to have our desired treatments. Such as the chocolate wrap. Sounded yummy. Anyhow, we ended up booking in the thalassotherapy and afternoon tea for just after we finished our treatment.
The thalassotherapy was a unique and great experience. This is a pool with rich mineral water that uses water jets to stimulate and massage different parts of your body. My favorite was the jet bed (this is a name I given), where you lay in the water on top of the water jets that massage you from head to toe. After 5 minutes, you have to change places and try different jets in different areas of the pool.
It is a very nice feeling and it is said that thalassotherapy actually helps with cellulite and muscle pain. The weather was amazing. Have to say we got really lucky. We managed to stay outside and enjoy the outside jacuzzi as well. Of course this did not end well for me due to the fact that I got a cold, going in and out of the jacuzzi. Overall the place is amazing.
While the price is a little bit high, it does worth every penny. (Because we worth it!) No treatments are included in the price, so if you want to have some treatments, you will have to pay extra. The treatments are fairly affordable. We paid 20 for 25 minutes of thalassotherapy. My little sister's Bday is coming up in June so we are planning to go back again. But this time we will book in our chocolate wrap treatment in advance.

A perfect way to wind down and spend the weekend with the girls for a hen do. Despite it being more popular with couples it comes with three course meals and a over night stay with all inclusive gym/spa access and activity class. On arrival we went to our rooms which had a lovely back garden access, we then went straight to the spa to have a splash around the pool and jacuzzi.
Dinner was a candle lit dinner with many options, I went for the Cezar salad for starters, a tender mahi mahi fish for main and lemon meringue cake for dessert. Breakfast started at 7am the next day with a wide choice of buffet then we left for morning classes including core abs and a dance called ddmix. The massage was a bliss with 55min back massage and facial which got rid of all my knots. They have awesome smoothie choices when you want to chill, my favourite was Passion shot. Will definitely go back!

I have been here several times and enjoyed the experience. recently took my daughter for an overnight stay and spa day and we loved it-however it doesnt come cheap. the food is amazing but alcohol served only in the evening, so if you like a glass of wine with your meal you can only enjoy it for the evening. service though was slow for dinner and the staff not as friendly as at the spa. treatments were amazing though. My only comment was for the price my room was not very nice-and there was no air con so very hot and stuffy. that said well worth a weekend visit to unwind.

Rather expensive, and with a good array of treatments etc, Champneys nonetheless often fails to delight. A classic example is the massages; I've had a number here over the years, which have been uniformally lacklustre. Not being the sort to have his eyebrows threaded, or whatever else it is that people have done, this is a major disappointment. A great sort of place for people with lots of time and money they want to burn.

Visited a few years ago and loved my experience, i visited with my girlfriend and found every part of the hotel to be great, very relaxed atmosphere and the treatments were very impressive. I would highly recommend this hotel spa to anyone wanting to get away for the weekend and makes a fantastic get away for 2 A*****

Champneys is a an absolute haven of calm and as a club member I am lucky enough to go and unwind there regularly. It has a well-equipped gym, great spa facilities and a huge range of expensive but excellent treatments on offer. It is set in beautiful grounds in the Chilterns and is well equipped with sports facilities and spaces to relax and enjoy delicious food. The recently built ozone pool is glorious and often very quiet. The staff are superb and it has a quaint feel, a bit like an old fashioned cruise ship.

I've been a club member at Champney's for years. It's the original and best spa in the home counties, retains the oldschool feel and has an impressive array of treatments. The other main attraction is getting to work out with Frank Bruno in the gym, since he's there nearly every day. The gym itself is very small comparatively, but most people there aren't gym nuts, so you can get alot done in peace and the trainers are very nice and extremely helpful. The best things about Champney's are: - the food - the quietness - the range of treatments - the location - politeness of the staff - enormous ozone pool
