There are plenty of delicious options when it comes to dining in Canterbury, and this is especially true when you stay at Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel in this historic city. Here you can find the exceptional Fountain Restaurant, offering modern British dishes with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients sourced from quality producers and local farms whenever possible.
Kent, also known as 'The Garden of England', and Sussex are home to some of the best food and drink producers that our country has to offer, many of which are less than an hour's drive from our doorstep. We're firm believers in the term "If you've got it, flaunt it" which is why we are always proud to actively promote any local provenance that has been used on our menus to our diners who visit us from all over the world. We also pay regular visits to our suppliers which helps us to appreciate the effort and passion they have in sourcing us with their amazing produce.

I was a guest at a wedding here and it is in a convenient location near the city centre with more than adequate parking. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the hotel looked well cleaned and cared for. The venue is perfect for a wedding with an adequate sized function room with good toilet facilities for guests. I was due to actually stay at the hotel overnight but due to the government putting up migrants there - other guests and I had to book into a hotel over the road overnight instead which was slightly problematic as we had bad weather on the day of the wedding and had to walk about 600 metres in the rain after the evening function finished.

We came for afternoon tea. On arrival we were shown to our table. It was situated near other diners but also close to an area where a wedding party were congregating before leaving for the service. The group were noisy with children running around and shouting and this I felt was overlooked as the hotel staff could have positioned us away from this in a quieter room by the hotel bar which was closed.
Also my wife asked for coffee and after finishing this cup a second cup wasn't offerred. We left after about 45 mins - staff had disappeared out front to watch the wedding party leave

We booked a deluxe room. It was beautiful and very big. The staff was friendly and polite. I didn't like that our bathroom didn't have a shower but a bathtub and as I'm not a bath type of person, I had to hold the shower handle myself in order to get washed. Also toilet didn't have a toilet brush which is very weird. Breakfast was 11 pp and they have a selection of English breakfast, porridge, jams, cornflakes, granola, apple or orange juice, tea and coffee. The structure and furniture of hotel is very elegant. Park on site free of charge and 5 minutes walk to city centre. Really enjoyed our stay.

From the moment we arrived - with a very exited pug, we were met with a smile and the receptionist went through all the Covid 19 procedures, advised us that the room would not be cleaned for the 3 nights whilst we were there unless we specifically wanted it to be (C 19 restriction) gave us details about the hotel, breakfast and dinner times and a map of Canterbury that were dog friendly places to eat.
The room was very clean and although the view was poor, the whole ambiance of the hotel made up for it. We had to keep asking for milk etc. (restricted staff access due to C 19) and fresh cups - non of which was an issue. The exterior of the Hotel was perfect for anybody with a dog - plenty of walking space and grass and all very clean. The location is excellent - 0.4 miles from the entrance to the City at the top of the High Street. - if you want to drive then there are ample car parks though a bit pricy to take a taxi for such a short distance. Canterbury is steeped in history - i highly recommend one of the short boat trips and of course a trip to the Cathedral.
There is an abundance of places to eat - a small section was cordoned off for street food which was excellent otherwise the Olive Grove - Lebanese, Moroccan and Italian was super. Finally, although the food at the hotel was limited it was very good (including a full English for breakfast) and the staff at Hotel were all very friendly and accommodating and made our 3 nights a real pleasure. Cant really go wrong if you are looking for a short break with no hidden extras and somewhere to relax and enjoy!

This hotel is a mixed experience, excellent location, easy to access the sites of interest in Canterbury. Although the decor and fittings are dated, it is very clean. Reception staff are excellent, all requests dealt with promptly. However breakfast service was appalling, 20 minute wait for a menu, 30 minutes for a drink and an hour for breakfast to arrive!

The hotel is far enough from the city centre that it's out of the hussle and bustle, but it's also a very short walk (10 minutes or so) into the centre of Canterbury, so very convenient. The rooms are very spacious, beds are comfy, and all very clean. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the only slight let down - slow service, average food, though there are plenty of options so good to suit everyone. Was expensive for what it is. All in all, a good stay!
