It was good for an 3 star hotel! Good location, friendly staff, and clean. Mattress was not dissimilar to laying on a pile of coal. The divan base was broken so my wife had to use a pillow to stop herself rolling out of bed onto the 18th century carpet. Weapons grade pins and needles in our feet due to them being elevated above our heads which was a new experience.

The toilet flushed.sometimes. The inbuilt cupboard kitchen although functional left a lot to be desired visually due to it have collapsed in the middle. We had to eat breakfast next door in a sister hotel which was wierd although the food was the hotel's saving grace, keeping it in the 3 star rating. The breakfast itself I'll rate as 6.7 out of 10 it was tasty and hot except for the coffee.

The photos of the rooms are much better than the actual rooms. For example in the photos the bed is adorned with velvet red throws which we didn't have, in fact we questioned if there was even any bedding on it at first and not a large sheet of crumpled cigarette paper. The television had the screen size of about 6 inches and due to the enormity of the room itelf was located 100yards away from the bed / rockery and the 2 large sofas and twin reading chairs.

The furniture was in good condition but very dated. On the vanity desk there was an inscription "SHAKESPEARE WOZ ERE" all in all, it was a large room with ample seating for a football team and everything you need for a stay in central London. Nice staff and good food but don't expect a 4 star hotel. The rooms are in dire need of maintenance and update.

Not a 4 star Hotel. Cheap lumpy pillows the quilt wasn't warm enough and they don't serve breakfast on site. Staff were lovely not worth 153 quid

Decent, cozy, what you would expect at an above-average hotel, nice breakfast but kind of an annoyance how you need to go next door to get it apart from that its fine, so yea nothing too special.

Lovely breakfast, lovely clean room with a great location near underground lines. The only drawback was lack of air con, everything else was fantastic we'd happily stay again.

Location is really nice. Pretty much into the city yet away from the hustle bustle

Really rude butler, I was directed here from Grange Portland Hotel as they interchange bookings and I initially booked it there, and he didn't want to help, told "it's not this hotel" and basically asked me to leave. Would expect more professional approach to guests from a 4-star hotel.

Standard hotel, has a working lift which is always a bonus and paid public parking outside. In the room the TV is not the best and the kettle's switch wouldnt stay on until I used some insulation tape to hold it on.

Stayed for three nights room not made up once despite us asking politely. Room was cold at night we were offered an extra blanket but never given one. Breakfast fast was terrible a cold bacon and egg sandwich in a takeaway bag for 8. Such a shame as the location is fantastic

Furniture is old. Some lights are not working. Also I was charged for breakfast even though I requested not to have breakfasts because I will be sleeping by the time its there. I forgave their mistake and turned a blind eye to the breakfast charge. When I checked out I was told that I was under charged for 0.44 pence and needs to pay that. very funny amount of money I know. Did they forget that I stayed 12 days and did not have breakfasts with exception to one day. they still needed 0.44 pence.

Most importantly, they have this funny looking worn-out main door that you can not open yourself but have to ring a bell for someone to come and open the door for you. You have to ring this funny bell every time you want to get in inside. To be fair, the receptionists are nice but the hotel itself doesn't deserve 4-start by all world standards.

The Portland (Grange group) is a very good and very centrally located. The British museum close by as is Russell Square being the nearest tube station to this hotel. A very good location everywhere that you need to go in the West End, Soho and all surrounding areas.

Well this lovely hotel seems to have escaped a review. Staffed by foreign nationals all are very polite and friendly. The decor and homely feel gives it a 5 star guest house ambiance to it. Part of the Grange Group of hotels with the Clarendon and Buckingham next door. I had the front room overlooking the st on the first floor with a balcony aspect, large king bed, safe in room, even a kitcehettte hidden behind wardrobe type doors all in the dressing room area of this fab room.

Very modern and warm feel to the place. Have already booked next stay at the one next door just to compare. But they appear same from outside and the breakfast room for all is served in the Clarendon (middle of these 3 hotels).
