The history of the building dates back as far as Tudor times as a corn mill controlled by the monks of Cartmel Priory. As time passed, the unique position of the mill on the banks of the fast flowing River Leven, running from Lake Windermere, enabled this building to be used for many purposes. During it's time so far the building has been used as a paper mill, Ainsworth's cotton mill and then the Reckitts Ultramarine pigment factory before it being turned into the hotel it is today. The last manufacturing venture of the mill was the production of blue pigment bags which became a revolutionary way for laundries to bring that "whiter than white" look into their customers laundry!

Room was number 304. Large room with a 4 poster bed. Windows looked over the river. Very nice. Room could do with updating, but for me it was very nice and clean, Food good, staff excellent. Yes I would go back, we had 2 great nights.

The room carpet was old and stained in various places, the seats were the same, the bar grill was advertised but it was closed, I asked for a can of cola and was told they did not have any cans of juice, I asked the barman what bottled beers they had and was told they didn't have any only draft beer yet the brochures in the room had an extensive list of bottled beers.

Breakfast on the first day was poor with black pudding and fried bread brick hard and scrambled eggs a hard blob, the best thing about this Hotel is the staff they are always polite and helpful especially the waiter serving breakfast a credit to the establishment. Would I recommend certainly not.

The hotel manager actually lied about availability of rooms. Advised me there were no standard double rooms for me to book my groupon stay with then when i booked via trivago for the same date and same room as they advised me were not available, they had no answer for me. Extremely unprofessional to lie and mislead and never experienced that before.

Great hotel and spa, location was beautiful and a short drive from many fun activities. The spa was superb, clean and relaxing, not too busy, all facilities worked well. breakfast was lovely. Evening meal at the hotel wasn't as good as we'd have liked, the portions weren't quite big enough. Not enough vegetables. Carrots underdone. But what was there was cooked nicely.

One of our party fell down the grid on the terrace, the grid wasn't secured properly and the chair leg went straight through it, flipped upside down, she had a huge bruise on her hip for the rest of the holiday. The staff apologised and logged it and got to investivaging it straight away but didn't compensate us or anything. But we're not those kinda people, and accidents do happen. Anyway the place overall was lovely. Beds comfy, lovely selection of teas and biscuits.

Always a treat for me visiting this iconic hotel in the Western lakes region. Rooms spotless, staff expertly trained and cordial in their approach to any hiccups. Food second to none and well presented to. Can't wait to the next visit .

You know when you've had the week from hell and you imagine getting away to comfort, calm and relaxation. This, this is it. The place in your head is probably very similar to what is there. I booked 2 nights a few weeks ago. Everything from the room to location to views and staff were absolutely outstanding. I recommend this hotel very highly, best place I've stayed in a long while. It was over 200 miles from home and worth every minute.

Beautiful hotel. This was purchased for me as a Christmas gift. My room had a balcony which looked out on to beautiful scenery. The food was great and staff were very helpful. Only issue I saw was that the place was a little dated. And could do with some modernising. But I would definitely stay here again. Also, pool staff were a little unhelpful or not there at all. But aside from that. Great stay.

Was a nice, traditional hotel, front desk staff we interacted with were lovely, the spa staff are great too. Room was spacious and lead out onto a shared balcony, the rushing river running past made it really relaxing. I loved it.

Booked hotel for short break. Very nice large room with great views over the river. Good choice of breakfast items. Restaurant for dinner was very good. Service was professional but not intrusive. Staff at all levels were very good. Sadly forgot to pack my coszi so unable comment on Health Club facilities. Overall worth my five stars.

Clean throughout and great service. Food really good. Bit noisy by the river but a beautiful location. Few too many kids in the pool at weekends

Sept/October 2021 - Stayed at the Whitewater Hotel, Booked through Spa and Hotel breaks for 3 nights on our honeymoon. You can't fault the location and views. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. We were however, incredibly disappointed with executive room for which we had payed an additional premium as it was our honeymoon. The room was very tired and desperately in need of updating.

The carpets were threadbare and the ceiling was cracked and filled and painted in a different colour than the ceiling. The furniture and decor in the room was also in need of repair, and updating, poorly painted drawers that didn't open. The shower had no pressure so we needed to use the mixer tap from the bath. Significant health and safety issue with the towel rail which left me with a burn when I placed my hand on it, we needed to ensure it had a towel on it at all.times to avoid scolding.

The room had an odour which smelt like old cigarettes. The hotel is in much need of bringing up to standard. The spa treatments were good but be aware that you can only use the upstairs areas of the spa on the day of your treatment, although the pool is open throughout. The food was of a good standard. We tried to make the most our stay but did contact Spa and Hotel breaks due to the very poor value for money, this was not booked as a bargain break and was extremely expensive for the experience we received.

The responses from the company and hotel were very poor and as such I would not book with either again. Thank goodness for the hardworking staff at the hotel, its only based on their efforts and the location that gained the 3 star rating.
