Came here with my wife for our honeymoon and it was definitely a memorable experience. Very relaxing and plenty of things to do. Perfect way to unwind and get away from everyday life. Massage treatments were amazing and food was delicious. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommended going here.

We had an enjoyable overnight stay. We did a package with a treatment and meals. Lunch was lovely and service was excellent unfortunately our evening meal was marred because of the long wait between courses. Overall the food was delicious and there was plenty of choice for breakfast. I found the pool area to be relaxing and it was nice to be able to soak up some sun outside. We both had a massage which was very, very relaxing. I would recommend heading there for a relaxing time away.

Been here 3 times now as I love the spa and breakfast, in particular. The grounds are good and nothing is too much bother for the staff. Would only say that the Junior Suites should come with a refrigerator as standard as we pay a good price. Other than that - great stay always.

Had a lovely afternoon here, great service and the food was great. Scones were amazing! Soft and fluffy in the inside and soft biscuit texture outer layer. We had the classic afternoon tea, 3 tiers, top tier is the lovely dessert cakes, middle tier are the scones and bottom tier finger sandwiches (nice but the cucumber one was a tad dry). Room was recently redecorated and looked great, chairs was comfy.

We have been to Sopwell House on several occasions for the overnight spa packages. Every time we have had an amazing experience. Prior to covid the standard spa was great and now the Cottonmill spa is out of this world. The hotel rooms have always been very clean and comfy. Some rooms more renovated than others, but we spend most of the time out of the room. The food and service from the staff have always been excellent. Team are always very professional but friendly. We look forward to our next visit

Massively over priced. Paid for a suite, basically slightly bigger room. Standard rooms at Other hotels just as big and nice. Not worth it at all. Tried to order room service, lady on the phone (sigh)"have you tried using the app?" On the app half the menu is t available. Plug in the bath doesn't work, couldn't have a bath. Air con was louder the a plane taking off. Will say the food was amazing, when it finally arrived. Check in guy was lovely too. All in all don't stay, not worth the money.

Stayed here before going to the Harry Potter tour. We arrived early to use the spa facilities which we enjoyed but are busy at times. Room service was good, room was nice but a little to warm at night. Spa facilities very good and evening food was amazing! I would go again to this high class hotel.

My daughter stayed here for New Years Bank Holiday Weekend. Access to Cotton Mill and Cotton Mill Club spa (AMAZING place to chill). The TV was in the corner of the room on an old fashioned unit, had to swivel the screen so it faced the bed more, for a deluxe room surprised the screen wasn't placed on a wall like the Glass House Retreat. Good points- Hot towel rails in the bathroom were a very useful addition in drying towels and swimsuits after using the spa. Had a massage treatment with Amy who honestly gave the best massage she had ever received.

Not just saying that but is true. Focused on all the pressure points required. All staff are friendly and helpful and prompt if you have a problem. Housekeeping is done which in some hotels or lodges this has stopped due to Covid. So it was a surprise to be given fresh towels and bed made after being out of the room for a day. Bad points - service in the brasserie was slow, especially when waiting for a drink to come to the table. Asked for an extra butter with the soup starter but the waitress forgot to bring.

The menu is the same as the night before apart from the soup of the day. But you only notice this if you stay for two nights or more. Overall she would recommend and would return with it being so close to London.

Very civilized presentation for tea service. Gluten-free and Dairy free selections make it good for all. The fact that is is also a top shelf spa helps. Nestled near fields in a quiet section of St Albans, it is a great place to go.

Beautiful hotel on outskirts of St. Albans, lovely grounds with big lake full of koi carp and rose arbour. The Orangery is great for a cocktail and the restaurant does a lovely Sunday roast. Excellent staff, very welcoming and attentive. Simply fabulous!

We stayed for the midweek escape and had a fantastic time from start to finish. Friendly and polite staff, a beautiful location/venue and tasty good quality food. Gabor the waiter definitely deserves praising - he was fantastic! Treatment and spa was lovely.

Very disappointing. A group of 8, we went for afternoon tea, something we had done as a group monthly for a few years before the pandemic, including a few times to Sopwell. The price has gone up, yet the quality of the food is lower. The quantity was poor, particularly of the sandwich portions. Tiny pots of jam and clotted cream which ran out quickly but, after asking a few times, they eventually brought an extra pot of cream and two of jam!

The little cakes were very good, and the only item that was supplied in adequate quantity. The tea was weak and insipid, due to not enough leaves being put into the pot. This was across three different blends, so would appear to be standard practice. Two people had coffee and this was apparently good quality. Service was OK, but we had to ask three times for a jug of water, teacups had no teaspoons, etc. Also, Sopwell (supposedly) offers electric car charging.

Since we were there for 1 to 2 hours, I asked if I could plug in - typical of their miserly attitude, they keep the chargers switched off (in over 6 years of EV ownership, I've never encountered anywhere else that does this). They want to charge 12 PER CHARGE! That's for around 2 worth of electricity, on chargers that were installed by Tesla, so Sopwell didn't even pay for them. Sopwell House has lost a lot of their premium business to The Grove. With this quality and attitude, they'll probably lose a lot more. We will not be going back.

Wonderful spa experience, attentive staff, amazing food. Great executive rooms with robes, slippers and fantastic Elemis toiletries. Hotel is a little tired in places but this doesn't detract from the experience. Would definitely recommend

Attended a wedding at Sopwell House. The building and grounds were so much more beautiful than the photos online. We loved wandering around and finding more and more beautiful spots. The staff were all very friendly and couldn't do enough for us (we had two small children with us and they were quick to help us with their extra needs). There were some new staff being trained at the wedding, but they all did a great job. Lovely venue definitely worth visiting!

Went to Sopwell House for afternoon tea and wow what a delightful birthday treat! The place is amazing and very welcoming. We were shown to our table overlooking the gardens. The food came beautifully presented and was the most delicious selection of finger sandwiches and delicate cakes. The service from Francis was impeccable and nothing was too much trouble, making the visit feel special. I would highly recommend afternoon tea at Sopwell House, it was a pure delight!

Wife and I were treated to lunch in the Brasserie and as it was a treat I can't comment if the experience was value for money. However the food and service were first class. As it was Sunday there were the usual Sunday roast options available along with a fish and a vegetarian offer on the menu. Starters and dessert equally as tasty. I only have one minor criticism and this is me being picky but I would have preferred a linen napkin rather than the paper one that was on the place setting. All in all a positive and delicious experience

Club spa is amazing. Best I've ever seen with state of the art facilities and every comfort you could wish for. Accommodation is good too but not to quite the same standard. Evening menu had repeats of lunch options which wasn't ideal and breakfast was distinctly average.

I have been a guest at this hotel several times. Ot is set in a lovely location. The rooms we have stayed in are ok, verey small compared to hotel rooms in the US where we also have a home. The pool Spa is pretty good, yet teh pool is quite heavily chlorinated. The choices for dinner are reasonable, yet a little expoensive for a hotel NOT in London, breakfast is ok yet a lttle greasy, there are other NON Cooked choices as well.

The hotel is clean, staff are polite, friendly and professional. Yet I feel for the prices they charge it could do with a little TLC Tender Loving Care. If you take afternoon tea at the hotel it is very expensive.

Posh indeed. A little over-priced and it seems as if they seat you in one of the particular rooms according to some nondescript "stature". The wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed despite being nice but the most pestering of things were the wasps that came in and were quite determined to have a part of the sweets. Staff were innocuous to it.

Obviously seen better days. Has a pompous air in keeping with its history but is now worn and frayed. Over priced for what it is. Elevator not working. Price on the check in form is not the real room price. You have to pay in advance for your bar and restaurant bill at check-in. My room had fray linens, holes in the wall and huge dings in the bath tub. "Would you like to upgrade" scam is obviously well practiced.

I remember when it was cool to stay there. I'm never going back. Not set up for American visitors: it's not British quirky and adorable. It's British I-don't-trust-our-guests and let's-all-the-money-up-front meanness.

I love this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the food is excellent and the spa has just been given a makeover and is wonderful. A perfect break from London that is not too far away, but still feels like the middle of nowhere!

Some thing to know if you are a solo or business traveler-this is a little out of the way, so take a deep breath and enjoy the country air! St. Albans is a terrific city with a nice selection of restaurants. Sopwell house has a terrific staff, a lovely spa and gym. I was here on business and had a small room but highly functional with a renovated new (small) bathroom.

This place does a great deal of business for weddings and Sunday tea. The food was very good as well, I mostly had salads - extremely fresh ingredients. Tasted like it was from the garden. The value for the price is definitely worth it. I look forward to my return.

Attended a wedding here, very nice venue for the occasion. The terrace bar was idea for drinks.
