The 4 of us checked in on 30th April 2022. We were all very impressed with the location. Such beautiful grounds and a Red Squirrel Colony! All you can hear are the birds and the squeaky floor boards! The Hotel is beautiful it's at least 193 years old. The dining area has wonderfully large windows which look out onto the hillsides and fields with pastures for sheep.

There are beautiful patterned glass panels in the dividing wall between the lounge and the eating area. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, lovely fresh sheets and a nice powerful shower with water just the right temperature. All of the staff are wonderful, particularly the hard working kitchen and waiting staff who looked after us so well. The meals are delicious, just the right amount.

You have 3 choices for each of the 3 courses. The cauliflower soup is so deliciously thick, the quiche is superb, the salmon is splendid as is the lamb casserole. The beef satay sticks are amazing. Apple crumble yummy, and the New York Cheesecake is well we had a slow race to see who could make it last the longest! We will definitely come again. Thank you to all of the staff!

Absolutely amazing place with own incredible woodland walk which homes red squirrels and many varieties of birds includes waterfalls and great stream, take your binoculars! The hotel serves great food, had a wonderful entertainer on when we were there but had they not there is also a games room including gym equipment, table tennis tables and a full sized snooker table but did not have time to visit that unfortunately, you certainly don't get bored here, this has got to be one of my favourite stays.

While the hotel is showing its age the rooms were comfortable, but with the creakiest floorboards I've ever heard. Shower had great pressure, but the doors didn't open very wide which meant I had to get in and out sideways, and I'm not the biggest bloke I know. Staff were great though, very attentive, with great humour and helpful. Food was pretty good considering they were catering for 70 ravenous university students.

Really handy location just off the M6 - beautiful scenery. Room was nice, but slightly dated decor and very creaky floorboards throughout. Decent breakfast included in the price as well, which was a great bonus!

Very comfortable stay. The hotel is a bit dated but it is a great location for hiking and walks. We were a very large group of hikers and hotel staff catered to all our special requirements. As a vegan, I wasn't expecting good variety of vegan food in rural Penrith. Special shout out to Mr. Steve Gibbins who looked after me so well. I had great options everyday.

They even served Vegan apple crumble and banana pancakes There are some great walks and you can even hear the waterfall in your room. Hot shower, fresh clean bedding and towels was all I needed after a long day of hiking. Overall a lovely comfortable stay

Absolutely lovely hidden gem. Would highly recommend this hotel, it has such a lovely feel to it, staff are all so lovely. We are a family of 5 so had 2 rooms next door to each other and both rooms were perfect for us. We will definitely re visit.

Absolutely stunning hotel, rooms are a little outdated but provide everything you need. Clean room and hot water. Grounds and view from our room was beautiful. Staff were very helpful, kind and friendly.

Good location for our overnight stop on the way to Scotland. Nice views Got there a bit early to avoid the storms. No bar or food available and sat in darkness for a while even though reception staff knew we were in there. One of the cleaners passing through was very friendly and put the light on without us asking. Did manage to get a pot of tea but seemed a bit expensive for 3 small cups of tea.

We stayed in the dog annex and unfortunately the heater wasn't working at all. Reception said they would boost that area but this did not seem to work. They gave us an electric fan heater and after that we were toasty warm. Good size bath and plenty of hot water. Room was a nice size plenty of space for our dog bed. We didn't eat there in the evening but used a very nice fish and chip shop that was about 10 mins drive away Cooked breakfast was very nice.

Thick bacon and tasty sausages. Included black pudding and mushrooms. Help yourself. We booked for 9.15am. Might be the end of breakfast rush as we had to wait for more beans/bacon and plates. One of the male staff at breakfast was very helpful and friendly but the others seemed a bit rushed and quiet.

What an amazing place, and such a kind welcome. We arrived in the evening, but a wonderful tray of sandwiches was rustled up. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. I loved the decor, although it's about to change. The gold and drapes were gorgeous. In the morning, we realised the incredible views all around. We hope to come back and stay a bit longer. Highly recommend!

Once -proud dowager, now on life support. Rabbit-warren of hallways and rooms. Ours was a flight up in the lift, then through a fire door, down a hallway and another fire door. Then a right turn and up a dozen stairs. Another fire door and a short hallway to another fire door. And then down the hallway to our room. Room was adequate, if adding electrics and plumbing to a 1930s addition makes things adequate. Exposed pipes in the bathroom and a pvc pipe against the outside wall. Noisy vent fan. Don't know how the coach loads of aging pensioners navigate the place. Mean age in the dining room was about 80.
