Went for lunch with 2 friends 1st May table was booked for 1.30pm we arrived before time and were shown to table given menu and drinks order taken ordered our food then waited and waited and waited. No one came to say they were running late my friend decided to see if she could hurry anyone along, . meal eventually arrived about 2.25pm with no apology for running late and no reason All our plates could have been hotter and so could meals I had 2 cold roast potatoes, apple sauce was cold.
We ordered 2 desserts these would have been ok if I had not had my coulis sauce poured on my lemon posset and in a separate dish as my friend was served. Was thinking of going for lunch with some more friends but am reluctant to return

5 of us + dog stopped for lunch on our way to the Lake District as Shap is just a few minutes drive from the motorway. There is a good choice of pub food at reasonable prices and everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was friendly and quick. I cannot comment on the rooms as we did not stay but the bar and dining room were very pleasant and comfortable.

We decided to call in for Sunday lunch yesterday the 8th May, knowing the Greyhound had been shut for some considerable time. The staff had changed since our last visit, which is perhaps understandable. Anyway, our food order was taken after a few minutes, and we noted the pleasant decor inside the pub. Our food took around 10 minutes to arrive, and looked really tasty.
I had the roast beef, with my partner opting for honey roast gammon. The food was top notch, and was the nicest Sunday roast I've had in a long time. I washed it down with a pint of Carlsberg ( I wasn't driving) and that was really pleasant too. At the moment, the Greyhound are offering only Roast lunches on Sunday, and not the normal full menu, for the time being.
I imagine that having just opened up again after a lengthy closure, the management are gauging customer numbers and demand, before adapting to meet them. So, in summary, I'd rate the Greyhound as pretty damn good. I'll be back for sure.
