Clonyard Hotel is a small, friendly, family run hotel located in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. Situated on seven acres of beautiful mature gardens and woodlands, Clonyard offers the perfect location to escape from the hussle and bussle of daily life. Having been owned by the Thompson family for over 45 years, you can be guaranteed a truly relaxing, local experience.
Dumfries and Galloway has always been and still is the undiscovered southern corner of Scotland. The scenery ranges from coastal plains and craggy cliffs, to upland moorland, with more than a hint of wilderness.

Enjoyed our stay. Dinner was fresh and tasty. Shame the historic Eurovision wasn't allowed on the TV in the bar area, despite live football having been shown earlier for a noisy few. I think most guests went to watch the hugely popular song competition in their rooms and drink their own drinks instead :- WiFi quite slow and patchy by modern standards, but breakfast was perfect.

Went for food, was delicious. Ordered the scallops and the duck, which was very delicious, better than expected. Nice atmosphere, a lot of local people generally go there and the owner is nice, came out to serve as well as being the chef himself. Have several Thai dishes offered but didn't serve them when I went because the Thai menu chef was off. Generally a lovely evening with some very good food. And is dog friendly.

Very poor experience both staying here and in the restaurant. Unkempt, dirty, shabby with broken furniture and old beds. Clean bedding until you looked underneath it. A view of the rubbish pile with old toilets from the chalet. Awful experience with a rude abrupt waitress and microwave quality food midweek. Other review sites repeatedly mention the rude waitress and she didn't disappoint.
The hotel was used by contractors mainly who were no trouble at all but this is their market not a family friendly break. I have nothing positive to say and would recommend it be avoided.

We booked weeks in advance for a special anniversary meal but when we arrived we were herded into a bare, unappealing overflow room off the bar! Apparently the dining room was being used for a function? Surely we should have been told that at time of booking? Given the option to find somewhere else? We felt really deflated! The evening went from bad to worse!
We were told to order food and drinks asap as the place was so busy with The Function. We rushed through the menu and ordered food and drinks, no drinks arrived! A woman on the next table had been allowed a dog inside and kept shouting at it! What a farce it all was! 30 minutes of dog behavioural therapy at full volume. Still no drinks! We asked the only other staff member and eventually got some!
Then the long wait for food! We were lucky, we got ours eventually, another couple had been totally forgotten. The food was good, really tasty. Our second round of drinks went the way of the first, so we had to order from the bar instead! Dessert? Requested twice but no one came back for our order! 3/4 of an hour later in exasperation, we paid up and left!

Been three times in the last 6 weeks. Food is always good, fresh and home cooked. Always busy, could do with some assistance with waitressing service, the one member of staff is an ambassador to the hotel, but she is running here there and everywhere. Very good food and friendly warm atmosphere with a delightful one girl being dynamic.

Lovely dog friendly hotel. Room was basic and comfortable as expected but brilliant to see a door from bedroom to the garden which was ideal for our dog who loved wandering round the garden and meeting other dogs. Best of all was food was delicious and good choice that we ate every night during our stay.
