Booked a table for breakfast, came through to reception the receptionist didn't even know we were coming. We got asked to walk through to the dining room to be met by Debbie. However, Debbie wasn't present so we had to wait. Finally we sat ourselves down, looked at the menu, still no Debbie. When we finally got someone to take our order - we couldn't order our food and drink at the same time as we got told from the waitress "I'm by myself you'll have to wait" Bearing in mind that there is only one breakfast waiting to come out was for an older gentleman- WHO'S ORDER WAS FORGOTTEN IN THE KITCHEN!
Although he is the only one to eat! Ridiculous. Not very impressed with the service. Poor show! Really disappointed as this seems like a lovely place just to be let down by the staff. Won't be coming again - will not recommend!

Most British place in the whole country. IF they don't ruin it all with the upcoming renovations! Wonderful people/staff, as usual. The character of the staff complements the character of this beautiful building and hotel. Alison and Lizzie at the reception, so kind, so charming, as always. Jenny in the breakfast room: Cracking! What a wonderful person!
Also met the new general manager Riza and his colleague Jack for the first time; both seem to be a great new assets for the hotel and seem to get on great with the old guard of staff. Oh, sorry, shall not forget Tibi at the bar/pub. Super competent and fast, also as usual. Whatever will be refurbished in the upcoming months, please do not change staff, they are all wonderful and part of the reason I kept coming back for this time my 15th time or so. Replacing people that can't be replaced would be a terrible loss for your hotel.
Regarding your upcoming refurbishment and renovations, it's probably too late anyways, but please, McMullen brewery, let me ask you this: DON'T go down the route so many go down and wonder why guest numbers are on the decline. Literally nobody needs another mainstream design hotel. England and the World are flooded with them. It is called unique selling point for a reason.
And people that love the Salisbury's love it for a reason: Character and Britishness! literally everyone I talked to in the days of my stay about the refurbishment is afraid of the same thing; PLEASE, I implore you, spare us another "classic with a modern twist" hotel. Polish the old wood and remove the dust from the oil paintings, but don't replace wonderful green leather chesterfield armchairs, with cheap pseudo wannabe trendy interior designer China-made armchairs. Ball's entirely in your court. For the sake of the future of your business, I do hope you make the right decisions. Yours sincerely, Constantin

We have been coming here for a good number of years and always had good service no issues whatsoever. The last 3 times we have been here service has just gone down the pan. New manager in place. As a resident of the hotel you can't have a drink or any service as all shuts at 9.00pm you must be in and in bed by then and no lights or telly on. Useless we are looking at alternatives for future meetings

We held our wedding reception here last night and we couldn't have been happier with everything. They helped plan our day and offered excellent menu choices. On the day, all the staff were professional and very friendly. They made sure our guests were well looked after. The food was delicious and plenty of it. We can't recommend The Salisbury Arms highly enough as a wedding venue. Thank you for making our day so special

Traditional style with friendly and experienced staff, food well presented, excellent service including meals brought to your room, good value rates especially at weekends, private car park nearby, warm and comfortable rooms. I have stayed many times over the last 5 years and standards have been totally consistent. Recommended!

I've been a couple of times now - the food is lovely, it's well made and good quality - and the pub has a nice atmosphere. When we went today the lady looking after our area was Debbie, who seemed to be single handedly managing a large area (there was a notice about staff shortages, to be expected at this time). Despite this, nothing was too much trouble and she was so friendly and helpful.

I booked a table of 13 last night for my wife's 50th birthday. The communication beforehand and the service on the night was excellent. Sammy (Sammi?) in the restaurant was first class and so helpful with service and changes of orders. Her bar staff were brilliant too-always attentive and very quick with their service. The menu was varied but nothing too fussy, just what we wanted, and above all very tasty. I would recommend The Salisbury Arms very much for an occasion such as this, we had a warm, friendly, professional welcome and a very enjoyable evening.

Stayed for 2 nights, the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to help make our stay an enjoyable one. Thank you to the two front receptionists for being very accommodating, the lady that serving morning breakfast was also very friendly and gave great shopping tips for where to find the best shopping centre close to the hotel.

Spent 4 nights here to attend a nearby wedding and to meet family. What a lovely hotel with welcoming and friendly staff. The meals and service was excellent. Lovely rooms and a great night's sleep and plenty of hotel secure parking. I would definitely recommend and with certainly be back. Thanks Sharon and Bebe and staff for looking after us. Andy

My family and I have used the Salisbury Arms in Hertford for nearly 27 years. My wife and I find it such a warm and welcoming place. We have come to know the staff really well and they are so friendly. The food is always excellent and comes to the table piping hot which is just the way I like it. I strongly recommend this place as a place to eat and relax while doing so.

Had afternoon tea here for a friends birthday and it was outstanding. Staff and food were fantastic, as there were many of us we had a gorgeous private room upstairs. The tables were laid out thoughtfully and the sandwiches were fresher than my experience of afternoon tea at The Ritz, couldn't recommend highly enough. Fantastic value for money.
