Rufflets Country House Hotel Rufflets is where you can take time to connect with yourself and those you love. Where you can find a treasured, personal space whether that's inside, curled up in a cosy, fireside corner, or outside, finding your inner peace in a quiet spot in our shady woodland or strolling through our colourful gardens. Three generations of the same family have poured their heart and soul into creating a hotel that has a unique warmth.

Come and enjoy our easy hospitality. We've put a lot of thought into making sure your bedroom becomes your own little haven to chill out in, with restful views overlooking the countryside or our beautiful gardens.
Services
Rufflets was built in 1924 as a private home for Anne Brydon Gilroy, the widow of a successful Dundee merchant who traded in jute, a natural fibre used to make cloth. You can see her initials ABG engraved on the key stone above the door leading to the formal gardens. Until 1924, the 10 acres of Rufflets grounds had been used for agricultural purposes.
The essence of what we are about is offering our guests the opportunity to connect with the natural world. We provide a St Andrews oasis where our guests can actually stop for a moment; take time to look up and hear the tuneful bird song, walk barefoot and carefree on the soft green lawn or sit at peace under the cool shade of the trees and listen to the gentle babble of the burns.
Whether it's your first visit to Rufflets or you've been coming to stay with us for years, you'll feel like you've always been part of our extended family by the welcome you receive. We're naturally warm hosts and want you to feel relaxed enough to be completely at home here. We have so many lovely spaces to enjoy, both inside and out, and we want guests to find a special place that feels just right for them. If you're after some quietude, then settle down by the fire with a good book and maybe even a wee dram of whisky.
We are constantly evolving our practises with the aim of limiting the impact we have on our environment. We have ploughed our green energy into our gardens, creating wild flower areas, extending our kitchen gardens and designing a healing garden. But that's just the start of our love affair with nature.

Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Staff were exemplar. For outdoor weddings investment needs to be made for wheelchair and pram access outside. A ramp needs to be installed at the terrace. Solid surfacing paths need to be laid. The existing concrete crazy paving, stone chips and grass verges all present different levels of risk for disabled people.

Was gifted a voucher for afternoon tea for 2. Visited on a Monday afternoon (bank holiday), the hotel was quiet but not empty with several other groups in. Service was very good, friendly and professional without being over the top. Sandwiches scones and cakes were fresh with a large pot of tea. There was actually too much for 2 people but that's not something to complain about.

We were offered the option of packaging cakes to take them away which we declined, but good to have the option. Our afternoon tea cost 25 for 2 people which was good value for money as a treat.

Incredibly staff, lovely rooms, amazing location. The bathrooms were really nice and the room was comfortable and welcoming. The grounds were also beautiful! When you stay there try to get out to the back in the morning and enjoy the fresh morning air and the birds singing, it's worth waking up for!

Disappointing afternoon tea, food didn't meet our level of expectation apart from scones which were excellent. Service not good, no one came to see if we needed more tea, milk etc. This was a treat for my mum for her 100th birthday, hotel were informed, no recognition, not even a happy birthday. Would not recommend.

We went to our Grandaughters wedding reception. It was an amazing setting. The service was first class and all staff so helpful with directions booking transport ect. This is a place that will be talked about alot when anyone asks about venues.

Please note review is only about afternoon, we didn't stay over. Service excellent, but afternoon tea was overall disappointing with very little flavour. Sausage roll tasty but was actually just a sliced piece of a larger one. Small dollop of clotted cream. For 70, including a 'discretionary' 10% service charge, its really not worth the money.oney.

I found it overpriced for the offer. The hotel would have been a work of art 50 years ago, quite old fashioned now, it needs to be modernised. The room was nice but not worth nearly 300 per night off season. Breakfast was really good and I quite enjoyed it, but the dinner menu is not worth the price, small portions and too expensive for the quality.

I read mostly awesome reviews but one in particular stuck with me because it expresses what I was feeling but couldn't put into words, the message was basically: "the hotel is living off its glorious past and needs to adapt to the 21st century " and I couldn't agree more. This hotel could potentially be a marvellous treasure but needs a few changes.

We had a 2 day celebration at rufflets when We got married here on Tuesday with 21 quests. Absolutely everything about the experience was fabulous. The staff were amazing from the first planning stage right to checkout. The food was amazing and everyone of our guests had a brilliant experience.

Ideal location and pleasant hotel with all the required amenities. A little pricey for the standard that it is at.

Lovely hotel with friendly, experienced staff who were never flustered. Our room didn't have a bath or a decent view, but was very comfortable all the same. The food was great and the restaurant had a good atmosphere in the evening. Such a good location, 8 minutes from St Andrews and half an hour from the East Neuk of Fife.

Garden is a great venue for a wedding if the weather is good. Friendly and attentive staff even if they muddled up some of the drinks orders. Convinced its down to begin new and just need a bit of experience

This is such a fantastic place. The staff are so friendly, accommodating and kind. The food is incredible and the rooms are lovely (the bathtubs are absolutely incredible). I highly recommend Rufflets to anyone who wants a fancy yet reasonably priced getaway! (The duck is fabulous and the scrambled eggs on smoked salmon makes a delicious breakfast)

Just returned from a fantastic Scottish holiday with another couple as well as 2 other golfers. The Rufflets hotel was charming in every way. Our room was comfortable and spacious with fantastic views. The gardens are beautiful with a lovely bridge in the back. Farm to table type food - a lovely vegie garden on the side property. Meals were delicious with impeccable service.

Our server could remember what we all ordered every morning asking is we would like the same as the previous day. Pippa however stood out. In planning this trip, she was attentive to every details. She arranged play at 4 different golf courses and was quite easy and prompt to communicate with. We had a nice walk into town from the hotel - would recommend.

This place is absolutely lovely! Slightly pricey but well worth a visit for a special occasion or if you're around the St. Andrews area. Only 5 mins drive away from St. Andrews city centre. The interior decor and outside grounds are quite special. The grounds extend quite far and during the summer months will look stunning. Great for pre or post lunch walks. It's a popular place for weddings and I can see why! Opulent but not intimidating.

I took mum here for Mother's Day and she was very happy with the whole experience. A set menu of 27 for 3 courses was available. There were several wines, champagnes and proseccos available by the glass, handy for those unfortunate enough to be on driving duty! I've been here 3 times now and I'm never disappointed. It has the Laura D recommendation and stamp of approval.
