Welcome to the Royal Sportsman Hotel - the only 3-star, full-service accommodation locally with the best-quality and value food for many miles around. We are Porthmadog's premier hotel at the gateway to Snowdonia and Llyn. We are an ideal base for either leisure or business guests to explore or work in the area. On our doorstep we have 1,000 square miles of world-class scenery - including Mount Snowdon - and an amazing array of visitor attractions and businesses of all sizes.
Services
We have 28 comfortable, en-suite rooms spread over two floors, and in our ground floor courtyard area. All rooms are warm and cosy with TVs, tea & coffee making facilities, direct dial telephones and a hair dryer (on request). All rooms have free wi-fi access. Our Superior rooms on the first floor are spacious and comfortable, several with bay windows for extra space.
We are committed to doing our part to ensure we limit our carbon footprint as much as possible. Our laundry is managed in-house which has removed the continuous transport previously required. We also ask guests to hang their towels if they are still clean to reduce the amount of towel changing and washing needed.
Breakfast is served in our contemporary dining room from 7.30 am until 9.30 am (Mon - Fri) and 8.00 am until 10.00 am (Sat & Sun). We serve a delicious Continental selection as well as a Cooked Breakfast of your choice. We have always aimed to make our food the best in the Porthmadog area and are quickly becoming THE place to eat.

This is a lovely hotel with excellent customer service and very yummy vegan foods available! For example, they didn't have any soya milk in for breakfast and apologised for this even offering to run over to tesco to pick some up! As luck would have it their delivery arrived and a glass was brought over! Vegan breakfast is delicious. Dinner the vegan "shepherds pie" is very tummy and their chocolate truffle brownie is one of the best vegan desserts I've had!
The single room is very large for one, and then ensuite bathroom whilst small is perfectly adequate for one with ample hot water. The room is very clean, with lovely bright white fluffy towels! Bed is comfy, some may find the pillows too hard, I thought they were OK but I like a firmer pillow. Location wise, if your going to do the Welsh Highland Railway it is very convenient and is a max a slow 10mins dawdle down the high street, which has lots of fun shops to look into on your way back. I can honestly say that the lovely of service, attention to detail here surpassed the 4 star hotel I'd stayed at prior. I hope to be back in the future

While spending the weekend at Porthmadog we decided to book Sunday lunch at the Royal Sportsman. Nice recently redecorated interior. Of the two staff we encountered the youngest was by far the best. Food was OK if a little on the pricey side. 17.95 for Sunday lunch, beef, lamb or chicken. My wife asked if she could have a small amount of beef and lamb and was told no, no marks then for trying to please the customer. I think they need to get out and check the competition, might just pick up a few handy tips.

While on holiday in Porthmadog to celebrate our anniversary we were looking for somewhere to eat. We have a large German Shepherd so the choice was limited. Although the Royal Sportsman normally allows dogs in the bar in the afternoon they kindly made an exception and we had the most delicious meal and delightful wine. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful and welcoming making this a true anniversary meal to remember.

Wonderful hotel, very clean and welcoming. Rooms available on the ground floor (in the courtyard). If disabled parking is required you are able to prebook it. Food is really nice, we had 2 nights with breakfast, and also ate in the restaurant in the evenings. Very nice and would return to the Royal Sportsman
