When we first walked in it didn't feel that great but it might be that we just landed a day before from a long flight. But after a couple of days everything was very good except for the stairs. But it is expected of a place like this. Most of the stuff get 10 out of 10 but you have the few odd ones with an attitude. It's not the place to blame for it. It's just them. The rest of them were perfect.

What a beautiful hotel with lovely staff who all have a smile and are really helpful. I stayed by myself for work but never felt alone. The superior double room was a great size and the bed more comfortable than mine at home! The breakfast and dinner were both lovely and served very quickly. Would highly recommend this hotel and its beautiful setting

We stayed at the Royal Oak Hotel during Easter and it was memorable in the best possible way! Chris, his lovely wife and the Team are superb and make you feel really welcome and special. The attention to detail was great too, from the cutlery at the restaurant to the coffee station and toiletries in the room. Compliments to the Chef as well: all the food was delicious, but he English Breakfast was to die for.

I kept saying yo my fiance that it melt in your mouth as if it was dessert. Outstanding. The room was nicely decorated and functional. You had everything you need for a pleasant stay. Finally, there was a Wedding on Saturday and we found it surprising how well-organised everything was, as we didn't hear noise all day, at dinner or when we went to sleep.

We wouldn't know if it wasn't for the fact that we got to speak with the beautiful Bride and family, saw the gorgeous salon decorated and saw them taken a fee pictures. In short, we have stayed in many hotels in different towns in Wales over the year and we find Welsh people welcoming and lovely; but The Royal Oak exceeded all expectations. And if you want a good laugh, plus excellent recommendations on what to do in town, Chris is your man! Can't wait to be back! Caro & Rob

Seven of us and our two dogs came in on the off chance on Sunday and were shown to a large table at the back of the pub. Everyone found something they liked at Sunday lunchtime. There were plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, which was great to see. The sandwiches were delicious, on toasted ciabatta. Skinny fries were nice too, plenty of choice of alcoholic drinks and the tea (decaf was chosen) was served in a lovely teapot. Delicious coffee too.

If we're ever back in Welshpool we'll be sure to pop in again. Dave, the duty manager, was so helpful and polite, as were the two ladies who brought the food to the table. A lovely spot.

Room was lovely. The evening meal was disappointing as not everything on the menu was available, the breads provided with the balsamic dip were not suitable. The evening waiting on staff seemed a little inexperienced, however morning staff were friendly and attentive and breakfast was enjoyable.

The best compliment we could give this hotel is if we could transport it to our favourite UK destinations we wouldn't hesitate, and that includes the staff too. Every year we try to get a minimum of half a dozen or so weekends away and have always liked to try different locations, and after almost 2 years of restrictions were desperate to get a weekend away.

If I'm totally honest we chose Welshpool last minute because what we believe to be the most popular places were mostly booked up, or in our opinion the hotels available were overpriced. It's 42 years since I last visited Welshpool as a school kid and if I'm honest it didn't look like it had changed much, like a lot of Wales really, but I think this is the charm and what now appeals at our age (couple in our mid 50's).

I chose the Royal Oak Hotel based on the location, the pictures and as usual mainly on the reviews. We booked a Superior Double room (room 215 to be exact), which included, breakfast, had a separate living room with TV, lovely decorated bedroom with another TV, en-suite with bath, complimentary chocolate and biscuits, coffee maker, etc The bed was extremely comfy too.

Our room overlooked the Main Street and at night was so peaceful and quiet, something I consider very important as I don't sleep too well any time. On the Friday we chose to eat at a local Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant 2 minutes walk from the hotel, but on the Saturday evening we decided to eat at the hotel due to my wife falling over a cattle grid on our lovely walk to Powys Castle!

I'm so glad we did as the food was beautiful with good gluten-free options for my wife and good value. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and the staff were so attentive and helpful. In the morning there is plenty to choose from at breakfast, and the full English was absolutely perfect, with gluten-free toast for my wife, and again the staff so attentive asking if we wanted more tea or coffee.

Everyone in this hotel deserves a shout here because this place is first class value for money and operates perfectly, just what we needed this weekend. A huge thank you to the owners and staff and perhaps everyone in Welshpool because everyone was so polite and helpful.

Loved this place. This was our second stay at a hotel of the Coaching Inn group and what a great occasion. The Royal Oak was clean the food great and all the staff where friendly and very professional. Loved the history of this hotel both in photos and booklets. Would certainly look at other hotels within the group.

Lovely cosy dog friendly pub nicely decorated with great food. Plaice with clam veloute was delicious as were the fish and chips and homemade soup dishes selected by the rest of the family. Attentive staff and didn't have to wait too long for food. Separate Coffee shop/bar area with transparent screens around each table for social distancing. Well worth a visit.

Lovely staff, nice rooms, food was great. Couldn't complain about any of those things whatsoever. Only thing is that due to it being an old place, it is creaky as hell and you will hear every footstep and movement from all over the hotel in the night. Unfortunately I'm a light sleeper so very much struggled to sleep.
