Services
The church is in Wales, the Rectory (the hotel) is in England, the only such instance we believe. You can see an old photograph above, with Reverend Jones in the foreground. The first Rector was the Reverend Robert Williams, reliably described as "ponderous and pedantic, big and burly, waddling as he walked with three or four pupils at his heels".
The Hunter family have owned this peaceful hotel in Shropshire for two generations, so friendliness and personal guest service is in our blood. Unspoilt countryside, high quality food, plump sofas, and well equipped bedrooms set the scene for an unforgettable country break. Long established in all the best hotel guides, the hotel has won many awards.
Care-free and indulgent hotel short breaks is what we do at Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel. No weddings, conferences or anything else that might disturb the unique calm of this countryside retreat in the Shropshire Hills. Good food, comfortable bedrooms, cosy lounges and fantastic scenery all around you. What's not to like?
If you appreciate innovative and accomplished contemporary cuisine then we might be the ideal place for your Gourmet Break. The Dinner Menu changes every single day of the year, so every night is "surprise night". See here if you would like to see some sample dishes from our Menu. There is always a choice of four dishes at each course, along with canapes and a surprise appetiser. We always have a fish and a vegetarian choice each evening, along with traditional delights such as Welsh Beef and occasionally local game.

Absolutely stunning stay at this little retreat on the Welsh/Shropshire border. Delighted to be told about it by a friend who has stayed. Beautiful food, great surroundings and just all round lovely place. We walked in the nearby wood and enjoyed taking our dog out. He was allowed in our room and in the bar until 6pm. Staff were lovely and highly recommend the champagne room with beautiful spa bath and lovely shower.

Lovely evening. The staff were very attentive and the food far exceeded that of the local competition; however, if was a little dated in its presentation and style. Although the wine list lacked half bottles, there was a good selection by the carafe or the glass, which makes it slightly easier for the ageing hedonists. We'll be back very soon.

A great cosy hotel in a beautiful area with a brilliant dinner menu that changes daily. Spoilt with canapes, an appetiser, starter, main course and dessert with a huge wine list to accompany. Lovely freshly cooked breakfasts too and all the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Stayed here more than once and would definitely recommend it, especially to those who enjoy a country hike.

Stopped in after a walk further up the road to ask if they did tea and cake. No cake, but scones. These came with sumptuous clotted cream and jam. Wonderful. The cheese board was very good too. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We sat out in the little summer house in front of the hotel which had lovely views, and the shrill cry of a buzzard over the valley was heard. Would like to stay a night or two.
