Every corner of the Vyrnwy Valley is steeped in legends and history. Now a designated nature reserve, this stunning area has provided for generations and continues to inspire to this day. Liverpool began as a small town, but by the 19th century, it had become a sprawling city and the greatest trading sea port in the world. With an insufficient supply of water, the search began for the perfect place to build a water reservoir that could supply the entire city. Several dams were constructed throughout northern England, but by 1865, the demand once again exceeded the supply.
Services
Lake Vyrnwy is in a prime location for the great outdoors, with an abundance of spectacular walking routes around the area. With the hotel's sporting heritage, dogs will always have a place at our hotel. There are a number of dog-friendly rooms available for a small fee of 15 per dog per night. With regards to public areas, dogs are welcome in the reception area of the hotel and out on the on terrace. With regret we do not allow dogs into the hotel lounges, drawing room or Tower Restaurant.
Catch up with family, reconnect with old friends or treat a loved one - all with a stunning view of the lake. We welcome residents and non residents into the tower restaurant, however booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. With its stunning views and elegant decor, Lake Vyrnwy Hotel has always been a popular place to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.
Arrive to a chilled bottle of champagne with chocolates and a keepsake lovespoon in your room on arrival. Treat someone special to a memorable experience at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa. Gift vouchers can be used for treats from a cream tea, lunch or dinner to an indulgent treatment in our spa or a weekend break. Wow, 4 night stay was amazing, staff so friendly and helpful, attended a wedding on the Saturday, the food was superb, had 2 days shooting on the clay ground which was very enjoyable, good, well thought out targets and both instructors very friendly and helpful, with a great sense of humour. Love the fact that it is so dog friendly with lots of lovely walks on the door step.
Have stayed here now on several occasions and every visit is so enjoyable. I will be booking again very shortly. Thankyou to all the staff for all their hard work, and making the visit so enjoyable.

I'll preface what is going to be an deservedly positive review by mentioning that our visit was blessed with brilliant weather for the time of year (March 2022). This was a birthday trip for my partner and we both left over the moon with our choice of hotel. The natural surroundings of this venue are stunning, improved by the man-made i.e. the dam, reservoir and cherry-on-the-cake, Rapunzel-esque straining tower, all with a mildly interesting history. Panoramic views available from virtually the whole hotel (don't even consider a non-lake view room) give an arresting, Black Forest aesthetic we didn't quite get over for our whole stay.
The hotel is late Victorian and proudly sustains that aesthetic where it's tasteful with modern touches as required. Our room had a gargantuan four poster bed, french polished furniture and a private balcony with that view. Staff were invariably lovely. Afternoon tea on the terrace on arrival was generous and done properly - share one between two if it's not your lunch! Spa facilities are excellent - treatments are the going rate, and the 10 extra for entry to the general 'thermal' spa well worth it.
We had a brief drink in the 'brasserie' bar which is much more casual/family friendly. It didn't serve food while we stayed. Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced - two minor criticisms around the steak main. This place falls into the trap erring on the side of well done with steaks - lay it on thick if you actually want rare. The chips were cooked too quickly too hot and I had a couple of bigger ones raw in the middle. Hopefully an isolated error and didn't detract much from my otherwise clean plate. Overall I struggle to speak highly enough of this venue. The unique location, style and quality really must be experienced if you're considering it.

Lovely hotel providing stunning views, good service and great food. We stayed here previously (preCovid) and thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. The COVID restrictions did impact on our stay this time. The breakfast service whilst OK was not as good as the previous buffet service. Hopefully things will change back to how it was before? All in all a great experience!
