If you're searching for affordable accommodation in Edinburgh city centre, our elegant 3-star hotel is. A great little hotel hidden away just below Calton Hill. The room was lovely and comfortable with tv and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and a very smart shower room. It has a small lounge in reception with a lovely warm fire where you can have a coffee or a late-night drink.
Also, a bistro where we ate on our first night and the food was delicious. The staff in all areas were also very friendly and helpful.

A very well located hotel, that's about where the the good points end. I can see why the burgh has more air bnbs that any other city because if this is what others are like I can see why. It's the 21st century and people expect a little bit more than basic or older worlde charm. Firstly, they're understaffed the staff they have are nice but if any guests ask for something that requires the staffs time, that means they are not manning the desk.
For the price of the rooms you'd expect at least 2 staff members. Check in good but be warned there is one old lift on the other side of the building so if you dislike old clunky lifts or stairs maybe think again. The staircase is lovely but not so great for carrying heavy suitcases. I'm fit so it didn't bother me but take that into consideration if you are on the top floor.
The rooms are a decent size yes but the facilities are not so great. Lack of hangers to hang your clothes, 1 glass in a double room, few teabags and milk although masses of coffee and sugar.a hairdryer and a television from the 1980s, a useless iron which I collected as the lady was busy but when plugged in it leaked and was dirty. ohh and a safety chain that isn't safe as you can't lock it which defeats the object.
I was particularly amused by the do not disturb sign which was ignored by housekeeping coming actually in. What's the point if you disturb the occupants if they're in? The breakfast was ridiculously over priced for what it was, the ivy down the road was cheaper for a much better quality meal and service. All that said and done thankfully on holiday you don't spend much time in your room. I'm back to air bnbs that are much cheaper.

Hotel rooms were spacious for city centre. though no one in our party was disabled, I did notice this hotel was set up nicely for disabled access. From the lowered sinks, walk in shower, spacious bathroom, and elevators, I would feel comfortable sending my grandparents here. Hotel was very clean. some minor aesthetic and paint work to be done in places, but who can fault the location, price, space, and helpful staff for that. would highly recommend this favorably located (and quiet) hotel
