After a hike on the near by trail I stopped at this place the views are amazing of the landscape. A little tip the carpark at the back of the pub is for longer stays the carpark at front is only for 1 hour short stays. The food was OK price was around average. Sitting outside with the Jackdaws stealing left over food was funny.

There are no words to describe the beauty of this hotel situated just above the Monsal Dale gorgeous view of the Dale and pasture land with sheep. Arrived at golden hour, and it was simply magical. There's lovely hiking trails, and plenty of parking space. The owners greeted us so warmly when we arrived, and provided such a lovely classic English breakfast the next morning. Charming rooms, in a lovely country hotel with restaurant and pub. Very cosy and British

We popped in here after a few hours trekking along the Monsal Trail for some food and a drink. The service was outstanding, the two gents on the bar and serving food were really friendly and hospitable. We had a pint of Aspalls each for drinks and for food we had the salmon starter, I had the caesar salad and my partner had the fish and chips. Food was lovely and exactly what we needed after a big walk! Location is also outstanding, looking over the top of the viaduct on one side and the farmland on the other side.

As previous have said valley view rooms are great. Staff helpful and friendly. The beer was good and so was breakfast. It is a walkers pub so don't expect a lively late bar.

Dropped in here for a lunch / dinner after a walk along the Monsal trail. Menu was straight forward and had plenty of pub favourites. Food was fresh and tasty. We all cleared our plates. Service was friendly. A nice finish to a lovely sunny day.

Fantastic beauty spot with fantastic views! The hotel is perfectly located to cater for visitors to this destination. We have stayed overnight a couple of times and also visited and used the bar umpteen times as a result. However, yesterday things weren't quite the same I think due to staff shortages. Beer not as nice as usual, menu was reduced in choice (but we all enjoyed what we had), Stables Bar not even open. The place seems a little tired right now. So only 4 stars from me on this occasion although we will continue to visit.

Been a few times whilst out hiking nearby. Had a lovely bitter. Love this place. I would give it 5 but -1 star as decor tired and building work on way into toilets and also the barman, what a misery.

We stumbled across this place 5 or 6 years ago by accident. We have been looking for it ever since. We somehow managed to find it again after driving around the area we thought it was near An amazing place to walk great views and nice long walking trails perfect for the dog! The pub at the top is also nice after a long walk followed by an ice cream from the cafe next door. Definetly worth a trip out too

Great place to stop that's also dog friendly too. A steep staircase down to Monsal Trail if you fancy it. Great views all round and around 10 minutes drive from Curbar Edge. Don't let the drizzle put you off, you'll soon forget about it. #personalfavourite

Popped in for lunch on a drive around the area. Passed by during the summer and it looked popular so we thought we'd give it a try. It was a good decision, friendly, good menu selection, located in a converted stable with many original features preserved. We both chose the ploughman's which was very generous. Nice thick slices of ham, pork pie, a good wedge of mature cheddar, a nice chutney and salad. Considering that it was quite busy, it only took about 10 minutes to arrive.

It's a shame we didn't have our dog with us. I'm sure she would have helped polish it off. It's worth noting that The Monsal Head is dog friendly and, while we were there, it was very popular with dog walkers (all well behaved ).

We planned a 10k loop with the intention of eating here. The car park is right next to the pub. The food was excellent and served really quickly. They had a good selection of beer. Don't bother with the coffee.

Ate at the Stable Bar one lunchtime. The portions were very generous (didn't think I would finish my ploughman's) and the quality very good. Service was friendly and professional. Would happily go back again

We were walking in the Peak District and chose to stay at the Monsal Head as we've enjoyed many a meal and drink in the Stables bar before and love the location. It was excellent! Cosy in the winter and lovely outdoor seating with spectacular views for the nice weather. We had a beer in the Stables at the end of our day's walking and then went to our room to shower and change for the evening.

The room was spacious and recently refurbished with a wonderful walk-in shower. The combination of modern design within an old, characterful building is very well done. The staff were all friendly and helpful and there is a busy, ongoing programme to redecorate all the rooms. We ate in the Stables bar, tasty food and generous portions. Good choice including a chef's special. Breakfast in the main hotel was equally good and set us up for another day's walking. We live in the Peak District and would definitely go back to stay again.

The view here is spectacular however I chose to come to this restaurant as the website specified any dietary requirements could be catered for without prior notice including coeliac, vegan etc. Unfortunately this wasn't really the case and the waiter wasn't very understanding. I have a number of chronic health conditions that are severe and disabling and due to taking medications I have developed food intolerances.

I can't eat added sugar or wheat and also have to avoid meat. The only vegetarian option was a gnocci containing both cheese and wheat so I'm unsure how they would cater to vegans as claimed on their website. The only roast dinner option was lamb, which they'd run out of at 4.30pm. They were unable to adjust any of the mains (such as removing the Henderson's sauce from the fish as it's already pre added apparently).

Again this is in contrast to the websites claim that dietary requirements can be catered for as everything is prepared from fresh. The waiter rudely asked if I knew what Henderson's was and seem bemused that I couldn't eat added sugar remarking that all food has sugar in it. And that it must be a nightmare eating out. Unfortunately it only is when people make comments that make you feel like a burden.

I ended up eating the most expensive item on the menu which still contained meat and a jus that most likely had added sugar such as balsamic viniger but I was assured did not without even having checked wut the chef. I have not had any problems in any other restaurants I've been to over the weekend so was very disappointed that this one did not live up to its very specific claims.

This is a very popular place for tourists and in the summer it gets very crowded, It has a good range of local real ales which are served well. However. The food is terrible. It is overpriced, poor quality and in the case of the burger we had, just disgusting. It seems their strategy is to use the cheapest ingredients and charge top price for them. Everything is served with large amounts of salad to fill the plate up.

Very nice location, with potentially the best view in Derbyshire. Service here is always prompt, with a nice selection of ales and an excellent menu, which verges on the pricey side but justifies it with the quality of the food. Specialities include The Monsal Wellington at 14.95 or the very good steak melt - a cheaper option - at 8.70

Called in for a well earned pint after a days hiking in the rain with my girl! Nice bar with real ale and a very nice menu too. Walkers made to feel welcome, a nice large beer garden just outside, with great views. Well worth dropping in.

Lovely hotel and bar just at the top of Monsal Vale in the Peak District. We had a wonderful lunch in the large beer garden outside the pub - slightly above standard pub grub - the steak melt is very fine indeed : Good real ales in the bar too - very highly recommended

Unpretentious hikers' pub and hotel serving tasty, filling food, real ales and a good range of wines with fantastic views over Monsal Dale - as The Good Pub Guide notes, it is worth coming here for the views alone.
