The origins of Mill End Hotel lie in a 15th Century mill, still at the heart of the hotel today, which was built to grind cereal into flour. The main building was built on the basis of a Devon Long House - a design which has formed the core of many of the finest traditional country houses in our part of the South West.
We have a choice of rooms for you here at Mill End, from a comfy single to our feature rooms with extra luxury touches to make your stay all the more comfortable and memorable. Our rooms are individually designed to complement our country house hotel atmosphere, with your comfort our priority. Peace and comfort come as standard, as do warm and soft bed linens and pillows, facilities to make a cuppa, fluffy towels and of course a luxury bathroom for a good soak or shower after a day on Dartmoor. If you have any specific requirements or preferences, please do call us so that we can find the perfect room for you.
All our Suites and Junior Suites have bath robes, tea and coffee making facilities, quality luxury toiletries and TV with Freeview and radio channels. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. All our bedrooms and public areas are non-smoking. Why the odd names? They are all rivers that cross Dartmoor!
Most of our superior rooms are spacious enough to add an extra bed and/or cot as required. For larger families our Junior Suite Harbourne is luxurious and spacious and can comfortably sleep 5 guests. We have 1 standard king room suited to a family of 4 (Walkham) for a quick stopover. Please contact reception to discuss in more detail or book online and we will allocate the best option for the room type you have selected.

Probably the best short break we have had. Very professional staff, customer facing, gardeners and housekeeping. It is rare that all courses in meals are so consistently outstanding. Although it is on the side of an A road, the reality is that this is a narrow slow road with little traffic noise. A side gate takes visitors almost to the footpath to Drogo castle. Only downside of such a good review is that it might become more difficult to get s booking.

We meet are family there for my wife's 70th birthday tea, I have been a chef Patisserie in five star hotels in London and the Middle East and I have to say that was the best tea I have had outside of London and the staff were just great. Thanks

Lovely location, superb, attentive, staff and top quality food. The lounges and bedroom were well furnished and comfortable. A bonus was a pleasant walk beside the river which took us through a lovely wooded area carpeted with bluebells followed by a field with grazing sheep, another with cattle before reaching the outskirts of Chagford.

The place is set in beautiful countryside surroundings. I came here for an afternoon tea as part of a hen do. We had our own private area to sit and enjoy ourselves. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was very nicely presented and seem to cater for all. I would highly recommend this place to all.

Fantastic afternoon tea, food was amazing and nice to have different stuff that you dont usually get at afternoon tea (ham hock terrine, coffee marshmallow, spinach roulade). Location lovely, sat outside in the lodge in the sunshine. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We stayed here as an overnight stop on the way to Cornwall it'd totally dog friendly with towels and cleaning facilities for dog walkers in muddy conditions. The breakfast was fab. We booked dinner as the hotel is a former mill by a stream some way from a town. Dinner is traditional in that you sit in a room and peruse the menu before sitting down for a great meal. Service us very attentive. The hotel sits in a large grounds and is a fantastic place to stay.

We had bed breakfast and evening meal here as we wanted to visit Castle Drogo nearby, and we were delighted. The staff seemed genuinely pleased to see us and the meals were outstanding. Our room was very comfortable too. Dogs are welcome with a special dogroom including towels, treats, and poo bags! Beautiful walks to Chagford and through the Drogo estate literally on your doorstep. We look forward to a return visit.

Mill End is a perfect setting and the staff are always so polite. Afternoon tea is the best thing here although not available on my visit for 3 days this time! However, very angry that although Covid restrictions have ended, there was no explanation for not servicing the rooms daily. Prices are high and this is expected, this was a birthday stay and didn't expect to make the bed and empty the bins.

We were not told this on booking or when we arrived. Breakfast also was disappointing as poached eggs were hard for the first 2 days so on the 3rd day we ordered the Ham and Edam option, only to be served Ham and Cheddar! We didn't book dinner as if the breakfast is not right, why chance dinner?! However, other guests said Dinner was good. Also the last night we were kept awake till 4am with party goers after a wedding and nobody on call or around to deal with it. Trying to be something that it is not, top money for 75% quality! Sorry to say. Craig White, M40 Cars

Afternoon tea at Mill End Hotel, sitting outside in the lodge, lovely food, really helpful and welcoming staff. Dogs are well catered for and can sit in the garden or the lodge and there are fabulous River walks just over the bridge.
