Wonderful place to escape the city and enjoy nature golf and other activities such as archery and rifle shooting (Special thanks to Mark!) (activities schedule posted everyday) The hotel is smaller than on the pics yet still absolutely charming! Located on the hill you will have stunning views All guests also have full access to the pool, sauna and Turkish bath

Wonderful relaxing break. Reception staff were friendly and engaging and offered advise on places to visit and local walks. We were upgrade to a Junior State room on arrival which was a real treat so thank you. The room was beautiful. The views from the terrace were simply stunning and we were blessed with glorious weather. The Smith Brasserie is very pleasant and the food was delicious.

We had breakfast included in our stay and it really is all you can eat with many options all freshly cooked. One small note although it didn't spoil our stay but not what one would expect from a 5* hotel the breakfast staff on day 1 were exceptional but on day two different staff and different service they seemed a little less experience/interested and many breakfast items were either forgotten or incorrect when they arrived and we had to ask several times before things arrived right.

Not too keen on having the 12.5% service charge automatically applied to each and every drink or snack that we ordered whilst there, I would have preferred to have the choice to what gratuities I would like to have left. The Spa facilities: a lovely pool along with views of the countryside to admire while relaxing. The gold course looked spectacular. Looking forward to a return visit and would recommend Bovey Castle.

The place: it's a stunning property in a stunning setting. I'm not a golfer but I can imagine it must rate quite high with anyone who is - the course looks fabulous. The rooms are very nice, a good bathroom and shower. Sadly the bar is just a cocktail bar and I didn't experience either of the restaurants as I had my dogs with me. So spent much of our time in The Library or the Great Hall.

The team: so much of U.K. is suffering with staff shortages. It really shows at this place. Some of the team are excellent but there aren't enough of them. Most are too tired to care or talk openly of looking for a better job elsewhere. Dog friendly. Small car park - over run by day visitors

A lovely location and very pleasant friendly staff. It is expensive at 90 for afternoon tea with my elderly mother but you're only 91 once. Not easy to please either my mother! But she gave this the thumbs up. So it must be good! I think she might have thought the bill was 9 but as they say. Ignorance is bliss! The tea and the views were lovely and I think the whole thing was a super treat.

Bovey Castle has to be the most wonderful place that we have ever stayed, from booking over the phone on the very same day of our arrival, the welcome, the room, the castle, the grounds, dining, activities and the staff. we can not fault a single problem from our weekend. The settings are outstanding, the staff are fantastic, the castle is beautiful and the food is phenomenal!

Us and our two retrievers were welcomed and catered for from beginning to end. We participated in two shooting activities, the instructor was amazing and very knowledgeable. I just wish I could give 10 stars Thank you so much, From Vienna, Vlad, Effie and Phoebe.

Stayed in the cottages which are incredibly cheap for a family holiday. The bathrooms are a little basic. Our cottage slept 4 comfortably and had everything you would need. Views and walks in the ground are stunning. Nice looking golf course if that's your thing. Meals and drinks are also very reasonable priced for a 5 star restaurant. Lots nice places to visit nearby.

Recently attended a wedding here, lovely venue, can't fault the views and staff polite. But the prices for a drink are just to the moon and back! UpTo 14 for a glass of wine and I heard 100 for a whisky! Might be wrong. Totally unrealistic for a normal working person(I'm assuming they don't want working class people here), the drink prices also go up on the day of the wedding compared to the night before by a considerable amount.

To add to this they put a service charge of 12.5% on every round purchased. If you don't want this added for them placing your drinks onto the bar ask to have it removed. I wonder if the 12.% goes to the staff? If not where is it going? More profit I'm assuming. It's a very old fashioned set up, too wooden in my opinion, it's a shame that the staff can't be more relaxed, one even said they thought the service charge was a joke and unfair!

I understand providing a level of service and making it a memorable experience but they also have to be a bit realistic. It's a shame TBH as like I said the venue is beautiful. Felt like we were walking on egg shells all day. I wonder if the prices were more considered, would they take more money during a wedding etc? Just a thought?

Had a voucher for afternoon tea at Bovey Castle. After some considerable time we were eventually able to use it! It was definitely worth the wait. The surroundings were beautiful and the service was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious and there was so much that we left with a doggy bag each. I would definitely recommend having afternoon tea here. It is a very special experience. xx

What a great day. We booked an archery course, followed by a full-blown afternoon tea. Our 11.30am introduction to archery was hosted by John, who was superb, and took us from total novice to actually hitting the target within a few minutes of tuition. By the end of the session we (all four of us) were able to hit targets way beyond our own expectations.

A really great experience - Thanks John. We were then treated to a superb selection of delicate sandwiches and pastries which filled all four corners and then some. Complimentary take away boxes appeared at the end of the tea allowing us to pack up all the unfinished goodies to take home with us. Coming from Cornwall, the drive across the moore is very scenic but the carefully manicured grounds of Bovey Castle add a refined elegance to the rugged appeal of Dartmoor. Can't wait to return.

Fantastic castle resort set amidst acres of beautiful English countryside. Stunning location. While we were there for the NYE package (our activities might not be the norm year round), there were plenty of activities to keep us busy including archery, table tennis, clay pidgeon shooting, hiking, practice putting area, driving range, full 18 hole championship golf course, spa, indoor pool ( with sauna and steam room), afternoon cream tea, falconry event (bird exhibition including a very cool owl), live music, and fancy course dinners. Pros: 1.

Beautiful castle with great sitting rooms on the main floor. 2. Wonderful cream tea every afternoon. Delicious scones and jam and tea. Wonderful loose teas. 3. Beautiful golf course. 4. Attentive staff and some were exceptionally friendly. 5. David-the ex sommelier and now the events manager-was fantastic. He was knowledgeable and passionate about his wine knowledge.

Great guy. 6. Room turn down service. 7. Gorgeous indoor pool. 8. On location spa with many treatment options. Cons would be the following: 1. Secluded location means you pretty much do everything at the hotel. No option to walk to other options.but you can pretty easily drive into town (we didn't explore this option). Some might say the remote location is a Pro. 2.

One dining room option can get a bit boring for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Decent food but not fantastic and the food was not consistently good over the course of 3 days. 3. Older style rooms. 4. Our room, number 40, had a great view but the window was a bit small and then ceilings were a bit low. 5. Central heating means the room can get hot and there's not way to change the temp other than to open the window. 6.

We had incorrect charges on our final bill.but they easily removed the charges without any argument. 7. Our hallway to our room often smelled like food. Wasn't a pleasant smell.

Better when it was the Manor House Hotel but now very aspiring WAGs kind of place. We went in a large family party and had an excellent long weekend.

It is one of my favorite places that we stayed at during our trip around England. Set in a picturesque park (Dartmoor National Park) in southwest England, in a region called Devon. It is the epitome of a country retreat! Fantastic service from the moment you step in to the you check out. The classic double guest room is very comfortable, roomy enough to spread out.

The room was always stocked with bottled water and milk in the mini fridge, as well as fresh healthy snacks of nuts, dried apricots, and fresh strawberries. They provide you with luxury brand name toiletries. Lots of fresh clean towels as well as robes and slippers. There is internet access in the room through a cable - no wifi in the area at all!

Lots of public rooms for guests to sit and relax and enjoy a drink or afternoon tea which we did and it was absolutely delightful! The hotel has two restaurants to offer guests. The Edwardian, serving up contemporary British cuisine, and the Castle Bistro serving up foods like pizzas and burgers although i had the leg of lamb and that was just amazing!

The food at the Edwardian was okay. The food at the Castle Bistro was better. The hotel also has a spa, which we didn't use but we did use their pool and sauna/steam rooms. There are changing rooms at the pool as well as showers for the guests. The pool is indoors but looks out to the park - gorgeous views. Bovey Castle also has a golf course for those who like golf. There are also lots of other activities like fishing, tours of the area, falconry, and gin making. I highly recommend it if you can afford it. I can't wait to return!

I was lucky enough to visit Bovey castle as part of an extended Like Minds conference session last weekend. First and foremost, you can't help but fall in love with setting. In the middle Dartmoor, it's windswept, scenic and beautiful. We were greeted by a rather dapper young man in hunters and wax jacket, who took our bags to our room. Always a nice touch. Built in 1906 for Viscount "WH Smith" Hambledon and set in the 368- square-mile Dartmoor National Park, the 'castle' has a rich heritage and buckets of cultural appeal.

I like that it felt authentic instead of pretentious. The inside of the hotel itself is gorgeous. It's a little like stepping back in time, with art deco styling dripping from every corner. I loved the giant bath (though at first was slightly suspicious of the colour of the water - but that's just the countryside apparently), and nice little touches like fresh fruits, nuts and fudge upon arrival.

The golf course got a good review from those I was staying with, and there's a nine-hole putting green on the lawn next to the croquet and boules. If that's not your thing, then there's also tennis, archery, fishing, mountain- biking, and pheasant-, duck- and deer-stalking. I went to the Elemis spa for a facial, which wasn't exactly cheap (70 for 50 minutes), but worked wonders. I'm fairly picky, but it definitely lived up to its price tag. Food-wise, we had a great dinner as a group, and the breakfast was mighty tasty (though I'd go for continental instead of full english). I'll definitely be going back, next time spending some more time in the spa and taking in a lot more of the countryside to boot.
