Services
Children are allowed in all areas of the hotel and gardens, although we do ask that they are well supervised by you when in the Dovedale Bar and Haddon Restaurant. Children can dine in the main restaurant or the Dovedale Lounge choosing from our Main Menu or Children's Menu. High Chairs are available for our very young guests.
There is often a difference of opinion regarding the spelling of the name Izaak Walton. There are three widely used spellings of his name all often seen in print before the turn of the 19th Century: 'Isaac Walton', 'Izaac Walton' and 'Isaak Walton'. Subsequently 'Izaak Walton' became the more popular spelling in the late 20th Century.
The Izaak Walton Hotel welcomes guests with well-behaved dogs in the Courtyard bedrooms ONLY and the rear of the Dovedale Bar (first door on the right as you enter from the courtyard). The Courtyard rooms are particularly good for pet owners as these rooms have individual car parking next to the rooms and direct access outside.

We used to love it due to the location and breakfast, however our recent stay during the jubilee weekend completely shocked us. Obviously under a different management hence the lack of training shows on the staff. The breakfast used to be excellent now it's worse than a no star hotel. Will definitely not come back. Sad!

3 minutes ago on Google Refused to give back 1000 deposit after hotel closed in lockdown so Wedding could not go ahead due to government guidelines. 2 years on and the hotel have not even bothered to get in touch with an update about our 1000 deposit. The Wedding could not go ahead due to the hotel having to close during the COVID lockdown. We have contacted numerous times about getting our deposit back, which we are entitled to because the hotel could not provide the service we had paid for, and they do not even bother to reply. They have taken our money and not provided us with the service which is the same as stealing. Do not trust this hotel

A wonderful Hotel, in a wonderful setting with some superb walks eminenting from it. Staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were clean and bright, spacious and very comfortable as so the ensuite. Unfortunately, they were suffering a staff shortage and could only offer breakfast, which was really very nice. Lunches and evening meals were not being catered for so we had to go out.
A shame really as at the end of a day, one just wants to migrate to the dining room the back to the bar for a night cap, before bed. I would definitely go again, so don't be put off

A wonderful place to get away from it all. Call in at the friendly bar for a drink and a light lunch and then take a walk across the field to the delightful Dovedale. Unusually, the hotel bar was closed during my recent visit due to staff shortages caused by COVID. I will return as soon as normal service is resumed. Until then, I suggest phoning before visiting.

We stayed for a long weekend and we weren't disappointed. The staff were all excellent and very courteous. The rooms and hotel itself were excellently cleaned and the food has got to be some of the best in the area. The hotel itself is situated well to explore all the local walks and sights in the area. Overall a great stay and would thoroughly recommend a stay or even a meal if you're in the area.

Have just returned from a lovely weekend break at the Izaak Walton. There were five of us in our family group and we all agreed that the staff were, without exception, very friendly and absolutely lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the ladies on reception, the restaurant staff, the bar staff (where young Alex went to great lengths to make sure we were looked after) and everyone else we came across. The food was great and the beds comfy too. Can't wait to go back.

The hotel is in a fabulous location, it couldn't be much better. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble, the food is great too. My stay was really relaxing, perfect for chilling out and idea for walking. The bits that could have been better (which given the price tag may not have been expecting too much), was for a slightly more modern feel.
The hotel and its fixtures and fittings are looking a bit tired. The room was adequate, I loved the natural light streaming through the wall of windows. It was spotless too. The bathroom wasn't as good, a very artifical light, it was small and VERY hot and stuffy. The shower was dissapointing, I've seen more efficient watering cans, I'm not sure it was a shower problem or water pressure.
I suspect the latter because it was much the same when I turned the tap on. One other thing of note, there are a number of fire doors in the corridor to get access to the room. If anyone allows any of those doors to close of its own accord the resulting bang can take you by surprise! I needed a night away to relax and rewind, and I did so thanks to the staff for being so helpful. I'd stay there again, but possibly if offered to stay for a little less. Would I get married here? No, really not sure I would.

The staff is into it! Delicious woodwork, great surroundings, private outdoor hot tub, best covered patio for breakfast & cocktails! When my son was little we used to sit on a bridge in our hometown and watch the trains move below. I booked this place knowing it may be a little noisy because of the nostalgia but to my surprise it was super quiet and peaceful. Plentiful birds and chill! We really loved it!

I'm very surprised no-one has reviewed this hotel before! The location is absolutely superb with truly stunning views over wonderful walking countryside (though perhaps slightly popular for our tastes). We stopped for a drink and sat in the lovely garden. So while I can't, yet!, report on the food or accomodation, It is certainly somewhere we would give a go especially for a mid week walking break. The restaurant has 2 AA stars, so it can't be too bad! xx
