Services
For over two hundred years, guests have been welcomed in through the handsome stone entrance of the Golden Lion, with royalty and Scotland's national bard, Rabbie Burns, among them. Nowadays a sought-after setting for leisure, business and special occasions, the family-owned, family-run Golden Lion provides traditional Scottish hotel hospitality in modern style.
The Golden Lion is a historic hotel, full of original touches and personality, and our room layouts reflect the many different eras from the 18th century onwards. Our bedrooms - every one finished to exceptional standards of modern comfort and style - vary in size, shape and decor, which only reflects the distinctive character of the building.
Cronies Bar is the characterful solution when you seek a cool, quiet pint, and the comfortable, wood-panelled setting is a favourite with touring guests and Stirlingshire locals alike. Sink into the leather club armchairs and sofas, order up a dram or two of malt whisky and admire the memorabilia that takes you back to the Golden Lion's 18th century origins as a coaching inn.
In the early 1780s James Wingate, a Stirling business man, commissioned the famous Scottish architect Gideon Gray to build a hotel on the site of The Gibb's Inn Tavern and Lodgings, located in Quality Street Stirling. The Gibb's Inn was according to antiquity, "The principal hotel in Stirling catering for coaches going north to Perth - 'The Difiance' 4 horse coach leaving at 8.50am - and south to Glasgow - 'The Rapide' leaving for Glasgow at 8.30am, both from the pend behind the Inn."The Hotel known as Wingate's Inn opened to much "fanfare and anticipation" in 1786 to "provide a valuable service to visitors and travellers to and from Stirling alike."

A really nice, clean and relaxed venue with a large and well stocked bar. Quite quiet when we visited but that was ideal because we were with friends and had a good chat over a few well served pints. I'll definitely be back - this is a hidden gem in the middle of Stirling!

Hotel is in the town centre, 5 minute walk to shopping centres and main street. Our room was a good size and bathroom looked new. Reasonable prices for room, breakfast was extra, plenty choices. Reception, lounge and restaurants are in need of a bit of TLC. The WiFi only works in reception and lounge, no signal at all in rooms.

I would rather prefer housekeeping should pay attention to details, the room should look immaculate, it wasn't. Strange thing we had to pour water from both taps for around 15 minutes for a hot water. Service didn't work during 3 days our visit, whatever people need go down to the reception. However, location perfect, breakfast delicious, carpark free of charge.

Staff were polite and friendly but there were some issues. There was no WiFi in the bedrooms, breakfasts were below average. We were informed that the bedrooms would be cleaned but we came back to the state it was before we left. On the elevator there was a sign saying it would be cleaned every 15 mins but we saw there were sweet wrappers from 2 days ago before we left. The elevator is extremely small and there was hardly any space. Overall I'm quite dissatisfied.

Friendly and helpful staff, we had room 103 very quite until the kitchen extractors came on at 6:00 (not complaining) The room was clean and tidy and quite large. The bathroom was fine and looked spotless. but the extractor fan, one of the ceiling lights and both the lights to either side of the mirror didn't work. We stayed for a wedding and I must say it was exceptionally well organised and the food was excellent.

The buffet breakfasts were fine but the fried eggs were cold and the sausages like rubber. All in all a good place to stay and a great location. If we ever came to Stirling again I would defiantly stay there again preferably in room 103.

Girls weekend sharing a family room which was spacious with a separate lounge area. Televisions in both lounge and bedroom, large corner bath and great walk in shower. Food was excellent at dinner and plenty of choice at breakfast. Been here a good few times and will always go back.

A good city centre hotel with an excellent restaurant, the bar is also very good if a little pricy but not outrageous for a hotel. The staff were again excellent, friendly and helpful. The room I had was warm and comfortable, the only comment I have is the decor appears to be 1980s but decent quality. My stay was B&B, a good hearty breakfast in the morning overall value for money, very good.

Very spacious family room. Beds were comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced. The meal in Cronies restaurant was very good and the setting was lovely. The decor and fittings in the room looked a bit tired but after the last two years I'm not surprised and certainly wouldn't mark the hotel down for it. We would definitely stay again and are grateful for the friendliness and hospitality of the staff.

Conveniently located and reasonably priced but not in good nick. Clearly the owner isn't interested in investing in keeping this lovely old charmer in good order. There were buckets for drips in the lobby and first floor public spaces, clear evidence on the ceiling that was not a new problem, my room had a missing wall mounted sconce by the bed, the extra cover had a large hole and mildew, and they are either short of cleaning staff or the staff wasn't interested as a plate I set out at 9am one morning was still there when I left at 10am the next day. The room was not cleaned during my stay but seemed clean on arrival. Restaurant and pub were nice and staff lovely.

Didn't stay at the hotel but was touring around Scotland and we stopped to eat at The Golden Lion. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. The staff were really accommodating and so friendly! Would definitely recommend!

Night away here. Was really impressed with the room. Very close to shops and railway station. Was on the 5th floor and we had a lovely view. Bed really comfy and I had a great view. Prices included breakfast which was a buffet. Good choice of food. Would have been 5 stars but the food got cold quick. Apart from that was a great stay and I would recommend it. Price was good too.

Went there for Christmas lunch. Had a lovely meal. Menu catered for vegetarian and gluten free diet. Friendly staff. All in all a lovely outing and would go back.

The restaurant is quite large as you'd expect in a big hotel. There is a well stocked bar at one end and there are numerous tables, all well laid out with comfortable chairs. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is honest and straightforward in choice and quality. Price is good value and there is a special lunch menu which we took advantage of. 4 of us, we all enjoyed the food provided.

This hotel is very central and is always had clean and tidy rooms. Had brought 3 of my neighbours we both had similar issues with electrical fittings in different rooms but our room took the biscuit. Fittings on kettle dangerous and will cause a accident either fire or electrical shook. Toilet room handbasin was not clearing so could not use reported to reception on Friday not fixed by housekeeping.

Would like to say hotel is really nice have stayed on numerous occasions and will return but will be checking room out as soon as possible. Staff at hotel really good but safety on electrical fittings walls and kettle shocking and housekeeping poor the handbasin should have been a priority especially with covid around

Stopped in for lunch today, hadn't booked bit they happily found us a space. Service was a bit slow, waited 15 minutes for drinks order. Buffalo wings and salmon salad were excellent, full of flavour. The bean burger and burger pretty average. Rolls are too big for burger (bought not handmade) but overall good value for money for a lunch for 2. Would have been 3.5 stars if allowed but definitely not a 4.

Hotel was very nice, the rooms were fresh and clean. Beds were comfortable and room quiet. Decor is a bit dated and could do with be changed. We had dinner in hotel which was nice apart for my steak but we Were given our desserts on the house. Breakfast was very good. Over all great value for money would stay again.

Stayed in Room 337 for 2 nights. Didn't get much sleep as room was uncomfortable, due to being extremely hot. This was due to a radiator in the hallway constantly on hot with no way to turn down or switch off. No air con in the room. Reported to reception on both days. We did request another room but this never happened. Restaurant staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.

Food was constantly being replenished enough for everyone. The restaurant however was cold due to air con. Family of 3 all have cold now due to the contrasting temperatures in room, hallways and restaurant.

Great location in the heart of the city with ample free parking in a secure site. Large room with no street noise needs updating to more modern standards and some of the fittings and bathroom fan didn't work or were loose. Pleasant and helpful staff and a nice breakfast with plenty of choice and decent coffee was appreciated.

Really gorgeous hotel at great value. My first night I was served by a really lovely waiter, I want to say Jamie but I may be wrong! He was also the one who served me breakfast and again tonight at the bar, so definitely a hard worker. I never do reviews but I just had to for the hard work of this gentleman and how amazing the food was. I would definitely recommend
