Fantastic accom and the food was phenom after a days treking. You cant go wrong with this place!. Hats off to the Bar manager for looking after us newbies to the YD and the star in the making, the chef! Anyone giving bad reviews to this place needs to ask this question. Is it the place or am I grumpy in general?

I was disappointed. I arrived at 1pm to discover it closed until 3pm. I phoned the three phone numbers given for guests to gain access and got nowhere. When I eventually got in at 3pm my room was cold, it only took half an hour to heat up but that wasn't the point. In the clean, tidy well decorated room.there are no coathangers, only two hooks, no soap tray in the shower and only a small complimentary soap. My evening meal was delicious but served on a cold plate. The place needs a good manager.

A lovely, traditional style pub, set in the beautiful village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, a much visited area for country walkers, hikers and fell runners, being on the edge of the Yorkshire three peaks. The delicious aroma of the food from the Golden Lion will guide you in from wither side of the village.

On our arrival, the staff were clearly busy but still made us feel like we were so important; they were so friendly and kind. The room was perfect, clean with towels, tea/coffee and Hairdryer. The staff had put a table aside for us to eat and the food (and wine) was delicious. With a cooked breakfast in the morning, it was all good value for money. A great place to stay.

We had such a great stay. We went to complete the 3 peaks on the first day and it was a long day. Knowing that we had a decent hot meal and a couple of beers waiting for us was a motivating factor for sure. Parking up at the pub car park we left word the night before of our plans and car reg with the owners and off we went. We returned in the dark and was greeted by a warm and friendly host, and it was reassuring to know that they whole time had been keeping a estimation of our return time.
Hungry we ordered, the food did not disappoint. Over our stay we had the burger, curry, fish and chips, full breakfast. The potion size was just right, a couple of times just a bit to much for me but I am a small lad. We had a twin room on the winter deal two nights BnB 110. Worth every penny, we had such a good time in the mountains and in the bar in the evenings, not to mention the bed was really comfy.
So much so that we stayed an extra night and did the 3 peaks the opposite way round. I strongly recommend The Golden Lion Hotel as a base camp if your wanting to walk the 3 peaks. The fastest route we found was Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough. Also travelling up the night before and getting a good breakfast will give you a better experience. We're planning on taking friends and family back to try out the bunk house.
