Welcome to "The Duke", in the heart of Whitstable - home of the famous Whitstable Oyster. Whitstable is a town of history and legends of smuggling, where the first railway line in Britain, the "Crab and Winkle Line" to Canterbury was laid and which remains a popular leisure destination. Eclectic pub, good people, well kept beer and brilliant live music - can only sit outside for now but how good is it to have the Duke back in action. Support your local businesses. Updated, this great pub is now fully back to it's eclectic busy best following the relaxation of the various covid controls. For many, it's the cultural heart of Whitstable

Used to be a great pub. Toilets can be filthy, furniture breaks as its all free tat. Staff can be very clicky, friendly one min, bored to tears and blanking you the next. Great building, great venue, just need staff who take some pride in what they do and in themselves. Could be a real gem. These days It's not run well enough to even be considered eccentric.

It's one of the best pubs in Whitstable - great crowd, live music, fireplace, dog friendly, some beautiful artwork, an outdoor area, a wee restaurant out the back (charming) and some great beers on tap. I've been coming here for years. They don't charge a 5er for a pint of guiness and the staff are lovely. the tables are a wee bit sticky at times but I recommend stopping in. Meeting the locals - if you're worth meeting!
