Hostess was merciless and impatient. If you miss breakfast by a few minutes after deadline, she couldn't careless. Even if you don't want cooked food. She point blank told me I couldn't have any food, cereal or not since I missed breakfast by some minutes. Totally impatient with their card machine not working either. She told me she I was at fault and she had places to go to. Couldn't have breakfast again after that encounter with her. Her husband on the other hand was kind and friendly.

Booked directly with the establishment to arrange a three night stay as a Birthday celebration for my Wife and her Twin Sister. The reservation was promptly and politely confirmed by email from Neil and the special arrangements of chocolates, flowers and a bottle of fizz - they even bought the specific bottle I requested! That's service above and beyond in my opinion! Further confirmation and communication came in the days approaching the reservation with some tips on places to visit.
On arrival we were greeted warmly by Neil who took time to show the room and explain the facilities available. The room was spotlessly clean and ready immediately on arriving. My Wife and her sister report that they had an absolutely lovely time staying at The Coppice. Beverley and Neil went out of their way to make them both feel welcome. Breakfast was exceptional, using an array of quality local produce, the choices were excellent and clearly prepared with care.
My Wife asked that I write a glowing review and she truly believes this was one of the nicest and most welcoming establishments she has ever stayed at during the many visits we have made to this beautiful area. Exemplary service all round and tremendous value for such a high standard of accommodation. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and an easy 5 Stars

False marketing, survival breakfast, and racist grumpy owner We stayed 5 nights out of the 6 nights we booked originally and paid an expensive total upfront and we literally had to run away 1 day earlier from the owner bad mood/passive aggression, possibly even racism as I am British but have an accent and I felt I was picked on, and her survival breakfast and very uncomfortable small room.
We completely avoided contact with the owner in the last 3 days by not going to breakfast at all, as we noticed that her mood and anger was getting worse day by day and we enjoyed a happy breakfast somewhere else. I can say that the owner is not friendly with foreigners, possibly racist and leaks her personal bad mood and general unhappiness to everyone she can, more so customers, and we found out from other recents reviews from locals as well.
Our stay also included an "off-site health club" which was never offered nor mentioned. Another false marketing and cost cutting opportunity. Our room was deceptively marketed as a king room with a garden view, in reality it is a single room lacking several comfort features (hooks, storage area, etc) that we paid for and with the garden that can only be accessed by the parking outside the property and not from the room.
The room also had a view of the parking and was noisy overnight due to some sort of boiler nearby :( In regards to breakfast, it was very bad and it gave us the impression that post pandemic the owner is attempting to recover lost money from covid by cutting costs where possible, another example is breakfast. Breakfast is basically eggs + something, or milk with packed cereals, that's it and if you don't eat it she makes a face and/or grumpy comments.
One day we asked for salmon and mushrooms and we got half-stretched out salmon bit (5 grams?) with 4 mushrooms with complimentary grumpiness. That was our last breakfast there. Also the breakfast room has loud rocky style music that CANNOT be turned down. Breakfast is only served from 8:30 to 9:00 and if you arrive late she makes passive aggressive comments or worse.
In addition the water in the property stinks of chlorine badly but maybe is the same everywhere in the area. Furthermore on the owner, she tends to suggest places/restaurants not based on quality or service but based on if she likes or not the people running a certain restaurant/business, but by now she would have had arguments with half the lake district.
We got away from her, saving us the hassle. Positives? Yes, the location is good and the Lake District is very beautiful. We did some amazing trekking including Old Man Coniston. We will visit other areas of the Lake District.

Poor service, unprofessional, deceptive photos/marketing The owner is rude, she made several snide remarks, she lacks customer focus. We felt picked on, possibly she dislikes people that are not of English heritage. I found her manner intolerable and her behaviour unacceptable, her rude comments and snide remarks were unnecessary, it's not how an owner should treat their guests.
On one occasion, I asked her politely to lower the music during breakfast, she was rude and made a snide remark, pulled a face and hardly lowered the music. She wasn't accommodating - we took a chair from the office area as the room required one, the next day we found the chair back in the office and at no point did she offer to put another chair in our room.
She appears to be friendly and nice but she behaves in a passive aggressive way. Her behaviour progressively got worse, so we avoided any form of contact with her and left a day early. They play loud music during breakfast which is not conducive to a relaxing morning whilst on holiday. The breakfast consists of solely eggs, no variety at all. The window for arrival for breakfast is small - 8.30am to 9am.
The rooms are small. They appear to be big in the photos, as the photos have been stretched to deceptively portray a bigger space. Room 11 felt like a box room and the bathroom was a shoe box. It states that the bed is king sized, it felt smaller, it was very uncomfortable, the springs can be felt whilst sleeping, it's far too soft, one of the most uncomfortable beds I've slept in.
The boiler can be heard overnight, all night, disrupting our sleep. The window in the room jams so it's difficult to close it. Cleaning doesn't happen on a daily basis, which it should. The excuse given is Covid. Covid is even more reason to keep the rooms clean daily. The room was only cleaned once during our 5 night stay, and it wasn't cleaned properly - it was still dusty and I'm not sure the floor was hoovered well.
On arrival we found tea/coffee stains on the side table. The sink was also blocked, we had to ask them to unblock it. The room was marketed in a deceptive way. According to the facts, our stay included an off site health club, which was never offered neither mentioned to us. Possibly a marketing ploy to tally in guests. It states king room with garden view, in reality to access the garden you need to exit the building into the car park, turn right into a side gate, where the garden is.
The description allows you to believe that there's a terrace leading from the room into the garden. Booking.com states terrace. Other features that did not appear in our room - bathroom robe, alarm clock, dvd reader, radio, fan, coffee maker, soundproofing - all stated in booking.com. The rooms are far too expensive and not value for money. Having read the other reviews, they have had a similar experience to us. Positives - the owner gave us a list of restaurants but was unable to tell us about any surrounding walks.
She 'allowed' my husband to use the external office area for an evening. She changed the towels and linen and emptied the bins when we asked her, although guests should not have to ask, it should be done automatically. Nice garden near the car park with some garden furniture. Location was good, close to Windermere village centre and a 5 min drive to Bowness/Lake.
We loved the Lake District, particularly hiking on Old Man Coniston, we'll visit again but obviously stay in a better hotel/B&B that know how to treat their guests well and are professional and customer focussed.

Location was directly between bowness and windermere, perfect for walking between the two. Staff and owners are lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was very nice and you have a time set for breakfast so it's organised and you not waiting for food. Parking for around 7 cars and plenty of street parking. We'll be stopping again when we have the opportunity.

A very nice place to stay, the owners Beverley and Neil were great too giving their recommendations for places to eat in the evening.and they were spot on. Well located for a short walk to Windemere centre with its array of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and a little more of a walk into Bowness (15 minutes down the hill.a little more coming back).

Booked a weekend at the Coppice, we were greeted very warmly by Neil the owner, who was also very helpful, giving us information about local eateries and places to visit. The building is in an great location, walking distance to the town, and a 5 minute drive to the lake. The room was to a very high standard, and very clean. Very good value for money.
Breakfast is served fresh to order with a great selection of traditional breakfasts, fresh fruits etc. Good coffee also which is a must for me. A really nice family run business which you can tell from the moment you arrive. Thank you for an lovely stay, we will definitely be returning.
