This walk takes in a beautiful tarn and lots of gorgeous Lakeland scenery. Leave about 2 hours to do the whole walk (and a further two if you plan to continue onto Stickle Tarn). This walk contains some steep sections. We are happy to offer you the same warm welcome with some new procedures and changes in place for the well-being of our guests and team.

The Burn How - meaning "the house on the hill by the stream" - was originally owned by the Short family who were famous for their 1937 Sunderland flying boat. The current owner, Mr Michael Robinson, has cared for and cultivated the mature gardens for over 30 years, encouraging the local wildlife that delights our guests with their antics, and creating an oasis of peace and tranquility where you can Escape, Relax and Unwind. The gardens were originally planned by Thomas Mawson, the celebrated early 20th century landscape designer.
We have two superior ground floor rooms situated in the Victorian house, both have bay windows overlooking the garden area to the side of the Victorian House. One of the rooms has a walk in shower and the second room. Our superior Rose Garden Rooms are located on the first floor and overlook the private rose garden.
Our Hotel in the English Lake District is a magical place for you to visit and enjoy at any time of the year. Whether you are visiting for the huge range of outdoor activities on offer or a peaceful break, there's always something to see or do in the Lakes. The Burn How Hotel is located in the centre of the Lake District, just a short walk from Lake Windermere and the bustling centre of Bowness which offers a wide range of shops and restaurants, and yet the hotel's accommodation is surprisingly quiet, located as it is in our hotel's private grounds.
Sculptured over thousands of years by nature and by Man, The Lake District is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places in Britain. The ravages of time, the Lakeland weather and the many visitors can take their toll on this fragile environment. At The Burn How Garden House Hotel we're helping to care for this living landscape by financing vital conservation work.

We booked the hotel for one night on 20/05 under my husband name Raj Shahpatel. We booked two rooms with breakfast and paid 350, rooms were okay. Same night we were asked for next day's breakfast availability timings and they confirmed us 10:00 am where we were not told kitchen closes at 10:10 am. Next morning the breakfast was served where we asked them to add one guest with 13.50 fee, we being vegetarian we had just got option of beans and hashbrown, we ordered 5 plates and we were informed we can serve one hashbrown to each guest as we ran out of it.
The next option was toast, musli and fruits. When we reached to the table and got last some glasses available of musli/curd/fruit to our surprise it had fungus inside it (kitchen got closed at 10:10 so what was left that was our breakfast) on informing the staff they just had smile on face and their words were sorry for the embarrassment. I had few questions to them: Que 1) they claimed best breakfast served there? Really? Que 2) they have best breakfast winner award? How? Que 3) do they have true food hygiene rating? Real?
I am also going to related authority with all the proofs and pictures because we were served that bad food after paying asked amount and in addition me and my husband got ill where I being pregnant, not sure did I eat that To prove this I have added the musli photo with fungus and we sitting in the serving area. Please never rip customers they too work hard to earn. Lost 363.50 but learnt a lot Never returning back

I can only rate the restaurant as we only came for dinner. We used a voucher but the staff seemed to be confused by how the voucher works. The decor does seem to be targeted at their main demographic which is the older population. Parking is very limited and quite tight spaces, would be easy to damage a bigger car. Other than these points the food was really tasty, staff were attentive and friendly!

Really pleased with our stay. One of us required wheelchair access. I informed rhe Hotel about their needs prior to booking. On arrival they made sure a ramp was set up to help us get in the room, which also included a wet room with support rails. They had offered a shower stool with wheels which we used. The room was clean and tidy and a 5 minute walk from Bowness centre.
Easy car parking facilities and lovely breakfast. Only problem was we hadn't booked for dinner and therefore were unable to eat in, but staff were so helpful and we felt looked after. Thanks Burn How.

My partner and I had the warmest welcome when we arrived. The facility has dedicated parking spots in front of each room. You can drive in and out from two sides off the main road. There's a lovely, curated garden for you to relax and enjoy. The town centre is within walking distance where you can admire the lake. The hotel restaurant has excellent menu choices and is convenient to eat-in after a long day out. We couldn't be any happier. Recommended!
