The imposing sandstone building enjoys a peaceful, leafy location overlooking The Serpentine (Park) on one side (right) and the beautifully restored Pavilion Gardens to the front (below). Greenery abounds in all directions and the blend of trees, lawns and flora along with the quietness of the immediate area (broadly residential) combine sublimely to produce a relaxing atmosphere, which can only be fully appreciated first hand. The Opera House, Georgian Crescent, Pump Room and St Ann's Well are all 5 min or so level walk and form a gateway into the unique town centre that is Buxton.

I will start with the positives. location great, across the road from the pavilion gardens, which along with Buxton it's self were beautiful, Now the negatives. Dated & tired looking, & it could do with a complete revamp, their was no working lift which meant a walk up two flights of stairs to our room ( + the stair banisters creaked a bit when holding on to them!) which wasn't very good when suffering from arthritis & using a walking stick! The accommodation was room only, but breakfast would of been nice. Would I stay there again?. yes, if they did some improvements

Place is quite dated and needs a make over. It was exhausting climbing three flights of stairs as the lift was broken. However, on the plus side it is very reasonably priced, there is free parking right outside and free wifi. The rooms are large. It is ideally located just across from the park and if you walk through the park you are in the town. If you keep your expectations low and go in the knowledge that it is very dated you will have a lovely time as Buxton and the surrounding area is lovely.

Awful place. Even though I knew not to expect too much for the price, it still managed to unfulfil my expectations. The room was OK as a place to take a shower and sleep. However, no air conditioning or fan meant I had to keep the window open, and because it's so close to the road the cars kept waking me up. Additionally, the service was very poor.
All I needed was for them to replace the towels and maybe clean the room every couple of days, however, on the first night I was left without towels in the room. On the second night the left some cleaning equipment inside my room, including some rubish. I had to take it out into the hall.

The reason for such a low rating are as follows; The Fabric of the exterior and interior is in need of extensive refurbishment. The Bedroom we stayed in for two nights is in need of immediate redecoration, with the Bedlinen and Towels of an age needing replacement. The location is within easy walking distance of the Town Centre and potentially upgraded overall would be an ideal Hotel. The Owners/ Management need to up their game.

Great location, stayed in the suite as have stayed in it before, hasn't changed in design unfortunately getting a bit dated now, a few cracks in the wall, sofa needs replacing as the springs have started to go just a few minor wear and tear in places but the room was clean, great size and I love the bathroom which is almost the same size as the room. We will return but hope that it gets a bit of tlc ready for next time.

Very quirky, but was ok for a dog friendly overnight stay. I've been reading that they want to demolish and totally rebuild this, but have been turned down by planning. I think that's a shame because the building itself is sound and as far as I could see, there was room to extend out the back. It could be completely gutted and made absolutely fabulous. Anyway, I'm sure they will come to some resolution in the end.

Four of us stayed here in a family room whilst visiting Buxton and Bakewell. The building looks quite impressive from the exterior but also a little tired. but to be fair similar to some of the other hotels in the area. There was a car park, quite full, we managed to grab what was probably the last space. My first impression was that it was very dated and a little dark, like entering somewhere not quite in step with time.
The counter to check in was enclosed in glass or perspex. it was something akin to when I was checking into some prisons when I was in the Police! But the staff appeared friendly. Our room (No. 33) was up in the gods on the third floor so a bit of a trek. Oh my poor knees. During the himalayan trek to the third floor we were entertained by large numbers of pictures on the walls of actors and sports personalities.
Our room had a very authentic 1950's look but I'm not sure that was intended more confusing was the fact that the bathrrom was a large very modern affair with shower cubicle, roll top bath etc and was almost as big as the bedroom. The bedroom itself was adorned with pictures of Winona Ryder appeared clean with no unpleasant smells etc. We ventured into the ground floor bar on our way out for the evening, unfortunately from the seven or so old style pulls on the bar only one was in use and the liquid that flowed from it was truly appaling.
I couldn't drink it, though I did make a good attempt but had to leave at least half of the pint. The clientele, weren't too bad thought there were a couple of slightly off folks one of whom accused one of our group of stealing his pink pen. and on denying this insisted he was going to check the CCTV. how odd. We headed out and returned late that evening we got in without issue and retired for the night.
The beds 1 double and 2 singles were not the most comfortable and felt their age. but we got an average nights sleep without any disturbance from elsewhere. We had not booked breakfast, not sure if that was on offer or not so we made our way out approaching 10am the ground floor corridors etc were still quite dark and the place was deserted, we left keys in the recepticle at the deserted counter and left.
All in all, the place was a bit dated and yet with a great modern bathroom which didn't seem to go with the age of furniture and beds in the room. It wasn't the most comfortable night due to the beds/mattresses but neither was it unacceptable. Apart from the mystery of the pink pen, no one was unpleasant though the beer definately was. so I have marked it as average, nothing great but nothing too bad and for a price of 85 for the room wasn't bad value either. Probably wouldn't stay here if visiting again but if your staying on a budget it would not be unacceptable value.

The hotel is quite nice and cozy. Old! Yet had its own charm, representing the cute little town in middle of the reserve. It's placed perfectly away from all the buzz and a short walk to the town centre. Plenty of free car park spots around the hotel was a bonus. The Room was as described and well maintained, worth the cost. Friendly caretakers. All in all. It gives you everything that anyone would require after a long trek and walks in peak District. Btw! We got Clint Eastwood room. Check it out to figure out more.

The bizarre, tacky, movie themed hotel was a big let down. Very dated and not the cleanest, especially the bathroom with its leaky toilet. No drinking water or glasses provided. Wouldnt have eaten breakfast if offered! The welcome was non-existant, only interested in getting paid. Lift out of order and metal props visible going up the stairs. Not sure how safe this hotel really is. Come on chaps, its not rocket science. Clean up and get painting! The only good thing about this place was the location.

First off we stayed in a family room which to be fair was a good size, that said here are the bad points 1) Hotel is VERY dated and had a bad musty smell 2) the room was dirty with a lot of dust and dirt on skirting boards, bathroom was full of hair and marks ( not scuffs) on the walls. 3) no black out blind on window soon as it was light the room was bright. 4) family room was top floor with NO lift for the week were there so if you have a young child then this would be a nightmare 5) when handing key in was not asked if we enjoyed our stay or a simple thank you for staying.
