Welcoming staff, particularly Daniel. Excellent rooms, and really comfortable lounge areas. We chose to eat at Morags in the evening. The food was excellent value, good hearty food after a day walking. (Perhaps the portion sizes could be smaller) Morags was an excellent place to stay. Highly recommended.

Great hostel! The best I've stayed at during my time in Scotland. Staff is very friendly, rooms and toilets are clean, beds SUPER comfy. I really liked the private sockets for each bed. Also I had a room for 6 all for myself. I can totally recommend staying here. Can't tell anything about the breakfast tho, as I had none.

Stopped off here whilst backpacking The Great Glen Way and had a rest day. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Everything was straight forward, no hassle, very impressive and convenient place to stop off on the trail. Very clean lovely rooms, buffet breakfast, packed lunches, amazing dinners, and laundry service. Hot showers. The best hostel we have ever stayed in.

One of the best hostels I have stayed at. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms with a great shower. Really nice common areas with loads of facilities and local information. Excellent location with loads of different walks right from the door of the hostel. Can't recommend it enough.

Wonderfully friendly and accommodating staff. Extremely clean rooms. Nice to have a bar and place to eat on site. We only had breakfast and it was reasonable and quite good. It's very walkable to town. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of 5 is the bar music that went on until after midnight. Perhaps another room not above it would be quieter. We still highly recommend this hostel.

I also stayed at Morag's Lodge while on the Haggis Adventure Tour (check out my review!) and I loved it. However it is a bit inconvenient if you do not have your own car or aren't part of a tour group. The lodge is a cozy place set down the way from the famous Loch Ness. The rooms are all named after famous Scotch movies. My room was "Trainspotting" and contrary to the review below, I do not think it was haunted unless Scottish ghosts have a thing for making the shower go from scalding hot to deahtly (!) cold.
If so, I outsmarted the ghost by sneaking into another room (the locks were all broken when I was there) and using it's shower. I win! I win! Other than the crazy shower, the rooms were clean, smelled clean and the bed comfy! The staff is inconspicuous and seemed a lot more like fellow guests than employees which gives it a very young and homey vibe.
The chick in the kitchen was an awesome cook and I wish I asked for her haggis-stuffed chicken breast with whiskey sauce receipe (dinners are like 6)! Free breakfast (with the Haggis Tour, 2 otherwise) was better than most with the added protein of boiled eggs. Forgetting how awesome boiled eggs are, I ate 4. You can also self-cater if you want, but I'd say its not worth it.
The town is easily navigatable (new word!) and I wouldn't suggest spending your days in the hostel even if there is free WIFI and a hot bartender (wait, who said that?). Save your QT with the lodge for nighttime in the bar where there are trivia nights, karaoke and organic beers in bottles. You can also watch DVDs in the lounge area or to actually experience some of the country to came to see, I would suggest hitting the town with the staff (or at least asking for a suggestion) to a local bar.
It might seem lame at first, but after a few shots the call of traditional Scottish music will pull you to the dance floor and before you know it you are swinging your partner through a line and stomping your feet with your new Scottish best friends! Trust me. I don't think this is a place to come as an independant traveler, so if you are headed out towards Loch Ness without a tour, then round up some people before you head over.
