Services
Like the slightly meandering Gynack Burn, which runs through the property, we (Joe and Sarah) have enjoyed over 35 happy years wandering the globe together, before having the privilege of running The Cross. Many years ago, Joe worked in Leeds as a chef in a Greek restaurant. Prior to having twins, Sarah studied Hotel Management at the Institut Vatel in Bordeaux and in contrast, both of us have worked for many years in Financial Services. This often required us to travel far and wide and to eat in high quality restaurants and stay in lovely hotels.
Our eight bedrooms are all furnished with contemporary furnishings using soft colours inspired from the hills around us. Each room is well equipped with luxury cotton bed linen, fluffy towels and Scottish toiletries. All the rooms are en-suite with most now benefitting from a spacious walk-in powerful shower.
We offer a large selection of fruit salads, berries, yogurts, muesli and cereals with freshly squeezed orange juice and other juices complemented by a selection of freshly baked croissants, homemade jam and marmalade and Scottish honey. We use bacon & sausages from Mr Gow our local butcher, plus best tomatoes, and the freshest free range hens' eggs.
The Cross is in the heart of The Cairngorms National Park which is the largest in Britain offering a massive mountain range, fabulous native forests, clear rivers and lochs, moorland and a haven for a huge amount of wildlife, much of it rare. We are lucky enough to have red squirrels and lots of birds as regular visitors to our feeders.

Beautiful restaurant, welcoming staff and impeccable service. dining at the cross felt like visiting family. The Post-lockdown hospitality we received was fully appreciated. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing, exquisitely cooked and prepared local meats, not only the meat and fish, but vegetables also were cooked and served to perfection.
The knowledge of wine by the staf was impressive and each course was accompanied by a carefully chosen wine from regions around the world. Small touches like home-made bread and perfectly prepared appetizers complemented the meal. Finishing the meal with a local whiskey was a perfect end to the experience. Absolutely the finest restaurant in the Spey Valley.

If you were worried that The Cross has just been taken over by new owners - don't be! Myself and Mrs P have just spent a fantastic weekend break there and the food was just as amazing as it was when we last spent our anniversary there a couple of years back. Why? Because they have kept the super talented chef, David, who's dishes can only be described as works of art and taste as good as they look.
Completely unpretentious, friendly atmosphere too - no need for jacket and tie - smart casual fine. Joe, Sarah and Kieran super attentive and make sure you have a memorable experience. Well worth the money and looking forward to our next stay at The Cross. Thanks very much guys.

Went for a nice midweek dinner at a personally recommended local restaurant. We are reasonably new to the area, and what with lockdowns and kids, haven't had a night out for a good meal in a while. I am so glad we had dinner at The Cross. New ownership meant that we were there on re-opening night. Party of four, and we were taken care of beautifully.
We had the three course menu (and will be back for the 6-course tasting menu). Exquisitely cooked lamb (me) and venison (in-laws), excellent wine selections and fine coffee to finish. The service was excellent and we didn't feel rushed at all. It was nice to take a moment to enjoy a really good dinner. Looked like a good selection of malts too - sadly I was driving so they'll have to wait for another time, but we'll be back soon.

Came here for our anniversary dinner. The family running this place were so nice. Nice and cozy environment with the fireplace and art. Food and drinks were absolutely perfect. The chef does amazing work. We booked ahead and they adjusted the menu for some strict dietary restrictions. Everything was prepared with expertise. Would definitely visit here again!

The Cross is a must!, great value, super rooms and really good food - really good. Rooms are guest areas are done well and maintained!, restaurant is really comfortable and the owners are friendly and helpful! Kingussie itself (Main Street) is not great but the surrounding area and local walks are great! Thanks we had a super night!

Great spot for a fancy posh birthday dinner whilst on holiday! Food was super considered and very tasty - we had the three course menu at 55 which came additionally with canapes and a bowl of exceptional cullen skink. Unpretentious decor and atmosphere with spaced out tables in a old stone mill building. Maybe not so suitable for vegans tbh, but they do accommodate dietary requirements - I went GF e.g. A great find and would go again for a special occasion as it's outside our normal budget.

Fantastic quality food and service in a beautiful little restaurant. The staff are very attentive and took great care to ensure special dietary requirements were met. We had the tasting menu with paired wine, which was delicious. The food was locally sourced where possible and presented beautifully.

A lovely restaurant with rooms near the Cairngorms - definitely a worthwhile stay. The prix fix meal was good, but almost every dish was overly salted, same for the breakfast. Rooms are adorable. Owners are efficient but not overly friendly. I'd go again, as it was very good, but I've had better experiences in Scotland.

This is my favorite hotel in Scotland, bar none. But it is really a restaurant with rooms and if you go, go because you want the best food in Scotland and you'll be satisfied with sleeping in a very pleasant but unremarkable room. The television reception isn't good and there really isn't much to do in Kingussie, but everything else is perfect. David and Katie are incredibly good hosts and I can't recommend The Cross highly enough. This is a place to go when you want to escape your normal world for one or two nights of culinary heaven.

I have been going here since it opened, before you were born. A few years ago it changed hands, though one chef remained. The new owners are just as determined to keep the standards up to the highest level. It has always been a memorable place to dine and or stay. The internal layout is reassuring, spacious and the food and wines are always exceptional, though I think a little too many French wines of late are on the list.
They pay attention to what you want out of the evening and are always welcoming. The food is some of the best in Scotland, as we again proved last week. Well balanced menus, local produce, good flavours and paced well. It is not expensive compared to other fine dining places we have dined in the area. Thoroughly recommended. Make the trip or detour.
