Excellent bistro to use on Thursday, market day.good coffee and Fish 'n' Chips. I recommend you have the small f&c because I really didn't notice any difference in the sizes.but a big difference in price! I posted pictures of large and small in my review. This is a Wadsworth's pub so excellent beer.

Good Sunday lunch shared with my daughter who is vegetarian so the menu had a lot to offer. She enjoyed the choices available. Service was excellent. Beef could have been cut a little thicker and vegs were more like frozen diced.

I really like this hotel having had tea and cake here a lot in the courtyard garden in the afternoons. I like the old building with the open fire in the bar downstairs and the historic feel. Booked a room and it was great. We asked for extra duvets which they sorted out easily. Staff are all very friendly, polite and very accommodating. Breakfast was really good, exactly what you want in a hotel. Fruit, pastries, toast, cereal and amazing cooked food. Smoked haddock was perfect.

The decor is a bit worn and shabby in places but I like this as I find it more relaxing as it's not pretentious in the slightest. Would definitely recommend this place and as its not massively expensive for a hotel and I have enjoyed staying here.

Lovely building with very attentive staff but bedrooms tired and dated. Bed headboards in the room we stayed in very grubby and curtain hem needed repairing. The breakfast was good and again staff very helpful. Building interior could be stunning to match the exterior.

They produced a cream tea on a Sunday which was good. Good sized pot of tea at a strength I like. The scones were dry which was emphasised by the ungenerous amount of cream, they were also on the expensive side for what they provided.

Good sized rooms. Immaculate too. Great food and good choice of beer. I found all the staff very friendly. I'll definitely be staying there again.

The place felt welcoming, serving staff, were attentive, polite and helpful. the food was good quality it made for a relaxing afternoon. Manager/Owner was very nice when paying the bill, exchanging business cards. Will be going back again.

Food was good - Mac and cheese was fantastic. Warm Bakewell tart was tasty. Service was appalling. It took longer to order than to get and eat the food. Lady behind the bar said she was unable and didn't know how to make the gin and tonic listed on the drinks menu and then couldn't make the tea requested by another waiting customer. A big shame as the history at the Bear is awesome and the food was great.

A nice place to have a drink, if only it wasn't for the following reasons: Every Tuesday morning they allow people with severe mental health issues (some from the local psych hospital Green Lane) into the bar with no control from healthcare professionals, paranoid schizophrenics and alcohol DO NOT MIX. Over-priced food, nice food, but incredibly over-priced for simple "pub grub". If you are in Devizes, and have a little cash spare, call in, except Tuesday mornings!.

A huge old building in the Market Square in Devizes centre. A very popular place with the older generation and gets full at lunch time. Hugh open fireplaces with wonderful roaring log fires in winter. A huge selection on the menu and very fast service. Nice big fat old chairs and a good atmosphere - why not take the newspapers and get a drink or coffee and while away a couple of hours.
