Hotel itself was beautiful and grounds were well maintained. Rooms were spacious, though the lack of air conditioning could be a real problem in summer months. Front desk staff was helpful, but we found the service at the restaurant and bar extremely lacking for the amount that the hotel is charging. Atmosphere inside the hotel was a bit stuck up, so this would not be a good place to travel if you want to dress comfortably while you're in common areas.

The hotel was also located over a mile from the city center of Bath, which required us to get a taxi every time we wanted to go to a restaurant or explore. Taxis and Uber were a bit difficult to come by once you were in the city, which made every outing stressful. Overall, if relaxed comfort during your stay and touring the city of Bath are high on your priorities, I would not recommend this hotel.

Booked afternoon tea at 3 pm and we had to wait for 50 mins for even water to come out to the table let alone the rest of the food and drinks. Food and tea came out one hour later. Very poor service and a big waste of our precious time on vacation. Never coming back.

Stayed at the Bath Priory for 4 nights as a treat. We have stayed at two other hotels in the chain and like the environment. This was a lovely stay; our room (Geranium) had lovely views of the 4 acre gardens and was a real sun trap in the morning as the sun rose. Excellent facilities, very high quality food (if a little pricey) and very comfortable, we had a great experience trip using the hotel as a base to explore Bath and the surrounding area.

A pleasant walk into Bath across Royal Victoria Park is recommended, although coming back up the hill might not suit everyone - there are good public transport links (2.20 for a bus into town or around 10 for a taxi - 2022 prices). We intend to try other hotels in the chain and highly recommend this location as a special occasion treat.

Very very hit and miss. Great meal ration is 1:4, every visit, I went with great expectations and eventually I learn not to expect anything and be suprise (bad/good) Avoid the fish, it will be either overcooked or arrive cold. The menu has not been updated as frequently as they used to and choices are getting more and more limited. The cocktails menu however had been great and we all love the new cocktails.

Amazing staff, attentive and welcoming. Dinner was one of the best I've had, delicious and of a very high quality. 5 stars.

The main reason to review is the restaurant. The hotel itself was lovely, nice grounds, good service and a lovely building. The bed was on the very soft side but still comfy enough. The restaurant though is very poor value. While the food was of a very good standard, definitely not high enough a standard to warrant the price and the restaurant itself was a small stuffy room with an awkward quietness.

The drinks were outrageously priced, obviously the wine is difficult to compare but basic 30 supermarket whiskeys were going for 14 a single! I can't see how they can justify that mark up, particularly as you're not paying for particularly special surroundings in the restaurant itself.

My husband and I stayed at The Bath Priory for a 'mini-moon' after we got married in October 2020. Despite the restrictions put in place due to Covid we had a wonderful stay. We had the warmest of welcomes as. soon as we entered and this continued throughout the entire stay. Every member of the team we encountered was excellent, as was the beautiful setting. The food was second to none, every mouthful delicious. we look forward to staying again for one of our many anniversaries to come.

Beautiful location. Excellent food. Amazing variety of teas. Recommend the high tea but you only get 1 1/2 cups per teapot. So ask for additional water as they wont offer it. Make sure you walk around the gardens as they are lovely and great for background photos.

The public areas have seen their glory a while back. Maintenance is lacking. Compared with the Priory's very high accommodation rates- there are much better hotels around.

This should be a five-star review but it's not, for two reasons. First the service at breakfast was slow at the weekend, and we had cold tea served. The food was otherwise very good. Second, the room cleaner took my teddy bear away with the bedding, and the bear has still not been returned to me two weeks later. The place itself is lovely, though, the food is excellent, and the spa service is also excellent.

We had a very mediocre meal in the Pantry. The food was not well prepared and underwhelming. The pickled mackerel starter had only a very light vinegar tang and the pearl barley base was bland. The tagliatelle main was also lacking in flavour. The pasta was over cooked and claggy. They forgot our dessert. Service was spotty as well.

I was here for lunch. I did not stay overnight. Not only was the experience average but the greeting upon entering the hotel was frosty. Thank goodness the receptionist had a temperature thermometer to distract clients from feeling unwelcome. The maitre'd was over familiar and a supervisor equally uptight and stressed to the point of being oblivious that they are there to make the priory experience just right.

Add to this disappointing opener that the food was struggling to pass muster --basically it was ok -- one can only conclude the Priory General Manger has mastered the recipe for lost future business. I might sound harsh. Trust me I am not being. A 5 star status denotes an experience that is meant to be a cut above the norm. I'd have rated it similar to the average modern cafe these days.

I ate in the Terrace bar. As Julian Richer( the boss of Richer Sounds reminds us in his seminal book "the Richer Way' ) "for every poor experience expect 18 more potential customers to avoid your place of business ". I for one will not be going back in haste. There is one, and only one caveat to my review. Covid may indeed explain some of my poor experiences.

I am mindful how difficult the hospitality industry has suffered. Employees may have been treated poorly, paid inadequately and feel used. That may explain the status quo at the Priory & if true all have my empathy.

We spend a long weekend recently at the Bath Priory for my wife's birthday (a very significant, multiple-of-10 birthday.) It was amazing. We had dinner in the restaurant our first night and everything was perfect. My wife was pregnant, and they were very accommodating with the menu non-alcoholic but interesting cocktails. Meanwhile I found a bottle on the extensive wine list that did the trick.

The food was fantastic. The next day my wife went for a "maternity" massage and she love it. Afterwards we sat in the indoor pool overlooking the countryside. The grounds are beautiful and worth wandering around, even in frigid mid-December when we were there. We availed ourselves of the inviting drawing room each evening to unwind and enjoy the fire.

At one point, I tried to avail myself of a Lagavulin at what I thought was an honesty bar, but turns out Lagavulin availing is only available through the server. Overall the service was terrific, but to be clear it was not an inexpensive weekend (hence the 4 stars). I paid for one of the "nicer" rooms which was beautiful and comfortable, but not particularly big or impressive.

I would definitely stay here again, but for our next visit I think we'll probably try the other Relais & Chateaux place in Bath (Royal Crescent) which is a bit more central.

During my recent mini-break we booked a table for dinner here. Wow. From the second we walked in we realised we were here for a whole experience, not just to eat dinner. Welcomed into a homely drawing room we were offered drinks and canapes, given menus to browse with no hint of 'you booked a table for 7pm, you showed up at 6:55,h urry up and sit down and eat'.The service was sublime from the start to the finish, from the sommelier who didnt mock me for not wanting red wine with my lamb to the waitresses who made darned sure mine and my partners plates were placed on our table at precisely the same time.

The food was to die for. Portions were not huge but the food was rich and filling and I didn't leave wishing they had put more on the plate. When they found out that we were celebrating our anniversary they piped 'Happy Anniversary'onto our petit fours plate in white chocolate. Shane about the fact that it gets lost in french translation as happy birthday, but this happened to us when we celebrated in Paris one year, so it's become a bit of an in joke!

If I had to find fault, it would be with the other diners and nothing more. I cannot comprehend why someone would pay lore attention to their iPad for the entire meal rather than their other half or their dinner, but I guess maybe whatever work they were doing paid for their stay! Be prepared to spend more than you ever thought you would on a meal here.

For the likes of me that is a treat I won't be repeated for another year or two! Maybe next time I will save extra hard to spend a night there. What an experience that. Must be!

On a trip to Bath last weekend we decided to treat ourselves to afternoon tea at this hotel. Before we even got there we were thinking it must be fancy, the taxi driver said it was the 'poshest place in Bath'. Anyway it is a beautiful manor house type hotel with wonderful artwork on the walls, and very comfortable furnishings. The grounds to the rear are also suitable for a stroll after gourging oneself on cakes and finger sandwiches.

We opted for the champagne afternoon tea and on general it did not dissapont. The sandwiches were tasty, and had good fillings. The cakes were yum, and the scones were reasonable. The teas on offer were good, and the ones we chose were very good. The Darjeeling and Lapsung (very smokey) the standouts. On the downside, there was a small bone in one chicken sandwich, the tea was in ceramic pots and not silver service, and the scones were only okay! Not as good as the afternoon tea in the Merrion in Dublin, who go the extra lenght, but is unfortunately very, very expensive.

Special night out was just that for my Birthday. Three courses early dinner, wine and water and service 125 for the two of us, and worth every penny. Their website shows early special which suited us for timing on a work night. Flavours were amazing, and beautifully presented. A cut above the rest. Posh nosh with a special touch, including a full description on serving. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm very nice!

Never stayed here - but have lunched on a few occasions. Excellent food in a wonderful country house environment. This hotel exudes class and is within 20 mins walk to the centre of Bath. However, if you can afford to stay here, you probably don't have to do much walking

Good changes since Michael Caines became executive chef. Good flavours and they certainly know how to source the produce.

We have just returned from a one night stay at the Bath Priory Hotel. We were given an upgrade to a premium deluxe room, and the room was lovely: antique furniture, pretty cushions, fresh flowers, view over the splendid gardens, etc. The service was warm and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for the multilingual staff. We found the location to be very central and the ambience exceptional. we would reccommend it to anyone.
