This is well and truly 2 stars. When a hotel door shuts on your corridor you feel like there is an earthquake. Friendly enough at checkin, and a good place to get your head down if you don't care about getting a good nights sleep. Some guests left at 10am still drinking kind of vibe. Just be aware of what you are getting for your money.

For the location and price, you do get a hotel room that is acceptable. The Royal Albion was clearly a hotspot back in the day however is rather run-down now but that does not mean it wasn't pleasant. Staff were friendly, rooms were secure and the food was cooked but it was just dated. On arrival the door was smashed in, the carpet was all ripped and stained but you get what you pay for really. The view was lovely, we had a seafront view. If you need a couple of night stay on a budget then I would highly recommend.

We booked a twin room for a bank holiday weekend away with friends. On arrival we were given one key card for two people to use. There was no clear comment on how to find our room, however a short while later we found ourselves heading for the basement level. The common hallway by our rooms appears to have a historic or ongoing leak to the ceiling and the fire doors were stuck open, despite the sign stating that they should be kept closed (especially at night) to help reduce noises whilst guests slept.
After entering the room we found it to be extremely small and very dated in its decor. there was a fairly musky smell in the air. On inspection of the room we found it to be very unkempt. The furnishings were very dated. The mattresses were hard. there appear to have been some sort of splatter across the walls which only appear to resemble blood. The bathroom smelt mouldy and the extractor fan didn't work as suitably as it should have.
The window looked out on nothing but a basement storage area and the curtains/netting was mouldy. It was fast approaching 11 pm and with nowhere else to stay, our party decided to sell for three seeing as we were leaving at 9 am the next morning.

It's a very old building. Owner's need to spend a lot of money on this building. Staff are doing there best. Very dated room's. Furniture really bad. Windows need cleaning, painted properly. Cable's all over the floors, TVs are so old, more like computer monitors. Breakfast is very poor quality. One old lift that takes ages. Location is fantastic. Very budget hotel. As long as you are aware. Bar with entertainment is good. Food, drink price is very responsible.

Was in a twin room with no windows on basement level. Had its own bathroom which needed decorating. Only bad thing was when other people left their rooms they just let the doors slam shut no matter what time it was. Staff were really nice and friendly. Good price. Beds were comfy. Paid 10.50 for buffet style breakfast but the sausages let it down badly.

My wife and I went to Brighton on a 5 day, 4 night coach trip. We were allocated a room at the Royal Albion Hotel. We arrived at the hotel with a little trepidation after reading negative reviews. We were checked in without a hitch, the first problem we discovered we that the hotel only had 1 lift which seemed to have a mind of it's own. The room was large but dated, it could do with the windows modernising, if not, a good clean would have been nice.
The good thing we did noticed was that the bathroom has had a revamp, spacious with an enormous modern bath, very clean. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Food was great and plentiful. Entertainment each night with 2 for 1 drinks up to 9pm. All in all a very pleasant stay. ****

Very noisy and cold in all rooms, no radiators working when ask at reception for a room change answer was if we don't sell all rooms you can move to an other. They said would send a engineer up to sort radiators out still waiting for him to come. The hotel is very out dated could do with a good revamp which I don't think will happen Good parts staff very friendly, food was good no complaints on that score, we stayed three nights but never going there again and I would not be recommending it to anyone.

This isn't a luxurious experience by any stretch of the imagination, but neither is the price (with one caveat). I needed a room at short notice, tried booking online and the price was something like 150 without breakfast, for a double room. Seemed a little steep, and I was already within walking distance, so I figured I'd just show up without a reservation and see what price they'd give me.35! Now, at 35 for a last-minute room, which was clean & reasonably comfortable, I'm a happy guy. At 150 I'd have been somewhat less happy!
