The Atlantic Hotel is conveniently situated on the sea front within a few minutes walk of the town centre and the picturesque harbour, on the unspoilt coast of Porthcawl. A few minutes walk in a westerly direction is Locks Common leading to the extensive sands of Rest Bay. The hotel is ideally placed whether you are visiting the area for pleasure or business, sited midway between the South Wales cities of Cardiff and Swansea, near to Bridgend and Port Talbot.

Had a large family dinner (20 of us) in the restaurant, food was lovely and drinks were cold, can't fault the quality and service was great while eating BUT it was marred by the fact one of our party members had her purse and glasses stolen from the table whilst she was distracted- staff didn't seem helpful or even surprised it had happened. I asked if there was CCTV as they have signs up but was told that they don't and when asked if they had seen anything all I got was a Half hearted response of " there's only three of us on to serve the whole place " and when pressed the lady said that only our group and the serving staff had been into the conservatory area.
I'll leave you to draw your on conclusions on what that could have meant. Anyway. So in a weird, unexplainable twist- the next day the purse and glasses turn up across the road on rocks at the beach below and was handed into the volunteer coastguard station by a French tourist. Nothings missing. They have arranged a return (amazing Porthcawl NCI- they need 7000 a year to run it so please visit their Facebook and donate ) we didn't leave the restaurant and have no idea how they managed to get over there- possibly someone got spooked by 20 guests searching the area and decided to chuck them- who knows - so the moral of the story? Bad Things can happen but Good things happen to counter it The burgers were lovely.

The starter 'soup of the day' was lovely, couldn't fault it. The roast potatoes were undercooked and didnt taste fresh, a middle aged woman who brought our drinks out was sarcastic and dismissive - very unwarranted. The roast dinner was average compared to when I came a few years ago. Probably won't frequent again, may I suggest the staff take a course in customer service or something similar because it wasn't even busy in there so there was no excuse for the attitude, we were 1 of three occupied tables during the lunchtime rush on a Sunday.
There were more staff rotating around than customers in the restaurant, and they were each as short and impatient as the next. - Except Clare, who was very attentive and pleasant and is the only reason for the 2 stars.

Had been for a long walk up the coastal path and on our way back we took the chance to try the Atlantic as we had no booking. We were met with a smile and shown to a table, the Sunday menu was still on so we all went for a Sunday roast! It was brought to the table in next to no time looking fantastic, tasted even better even brought out extra veg. Unfortunately the beer I asked for had run out but nothing that a cider couldn't fix. Very nice.

A mixed response from this hotel ok the possitves it was a stunning location with great views and from some five years ago had amazing food all at a great price. The negatives in had a beef dinner that I hoped would be the same however I was disappointed the the beef was tough the veg althoug nice to look at was not cooked sufficient and was difficult to cut the Yorkshire pudding was over cooked and slightly burnt I was very unimpressed another gripe was the knife was not suitable for cutting anything that was difficult to cut Very sad for such a beautiful place.

Called in for coffee sat outside after eventually having our order taken we then waited for our drinks, they eventually arrived, we were eventually asked did we want anything else we said just the bill. That came quite quickly surprise surprise. After waiting 20 minutes to pay we finally gave up and left payment on the table and left. Customer service needs a bit of attention
