The hotel is set in stunning natural surroundings, perfect for country walks. I found it an ideal place for a getaway with my wife! The spa was very welcoming, we stayed in the suite which my wife loved. Quite a few interesting activities were available, we only did clay pigeon shooting and that was really fun! The staff were also fantastic which always helps the whole experience.
A few points which I feel could be improved upon, the evening food menu is quite limiting especially if you plan to stay for a more than a couple of days. The website could be improved to make booking activities easier. Highly recommended I would definitely stay at Armathwaite hall again!

We had our wedding day at Armathwaite Hall and all we can say is wow! The wedding team are amazing. We had to move our date due to covid which wasn't a problem at all. They can answer any questions with ease and are very accommodating and helpful. We found the whole experience with the wedding team really easy. Armathwaite itself is amazing, the grounds, the views, the spa and the bedrooms are just luxury.
Our wedding day was so relaxed and beautiful. Our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful it all was. The food at our wedding breakfast was amazing and all the staff were brilliant. We stayed longer just so we could enjoy the hotel and go in the spa. We just wish we could of stayed even longer. So thank you to Armathwaite and all staff. Everyone one of you are amazing. We will be back and Armathwaite will always be a very special place in our hearts Love the new Mr & Mrs Burns

I visited the spa for half day with friends. Lots to do, indoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi/infinity pool with an amazing view (my favourite pool), indoor jacuzzi, steam room, aroma room and sauna as well as two experience showers. Drinks service after 12 and loungers outside and in. My only criticism is the aroma room was unbearable, I couldn't sit in there. We had lunch at the bistro, the prawn salad was so good.

Lovely mini break. Goegeous setting, large comfortable room (we had a Feature Room). Well equipped gym with lovely spa facilities. Cocktail bar and restaurant were great. Fabulous service from all staff. Couple of minor points- menu was the same every day that we were there and being vegetarian that was quite limited for me. Also, absolute nightmare to book spa treatments so book well in advance. Would recommend this hotel

Booked a superior room which was beautiful (as was the hotel and its location). The decor was extremely tasteful and it was lovely and warm with a really comfortable bed. The lounge and cocktail bar are fabulous, really welcoming with real fires, and they have a lovely ambience about them. Unfortunately, the lakeside view restaurant was closed for refurbishmentwhich we weren't told about until two days before we arrived.
We ate in the brasserie which didn't have the same fine dining experience and as a result, I felt the menu was a bit limited, and when the food did arrive, it was lukewarm as was my breakfast the following day. The clay pigeon shooting experience was absolutely brilliant and Kevin, our instructor was amazing, he had wicked sense of humour whilst being very patient with me! Would definitely book again!

Went with my friend for my 70th which was last year and we couldn't celebrate. The staff upgraded our room to a suite they wrote me a personal card wishing me happy birthday and a bar of chocolate. I've never had such a personal touch without asking. The spa experience was amazing and the breakfast was superb. Would definitely recommend

Called in for an afternoon tea at Armathwaite Hall. The Hall itself is grand, but the area where tea was served was a little on the chilly side. There was no menu of teas to choose from and we relied on a waiter reciting from memory. Choice of about seven teas in total. The sandwiches, scones, cakes and desserts were brought to us but again there was no explanation of what had been served to us so we were left to guess.
The food itself was excellent and probably about the right quantity too. However, the service was not as good. There were very little staff around and we had to search out the staff on occasion. Other times we had to call them over as they didn't make themselves available to us so it was difficult to get extra tea. One of our party had ordered soup instead of a tea as she wanted something hot. Unfortunately, the first soup brought to us was tepid and the second attempt not much better.
However without us commenting further this was not included on the bill to the hotels credit. Overall, nice ambience if a little cold, with an excellent tea but not the most attentive service.

Spent a wonderful 3 night Christmas break here in Dec 21 with our dog. Very spacious and comfortable room with lovely views over the gardens & lake. The public rooms were well laid out with plenty of room to stay socially distanced but engage with other guests at the same time. Staff were always on hand, professional and very friendly. Food was excellent and the wine list was diverse and it was good to see that there were several reasonably priced options. Entertainment was varied and enjoyable. Will certainly think about another stay as the dog was also made very welcome.

Had a treatment here. Back shoulders and neck massage. The team here knew exactly what they were doing. Came out feeling super relaxed, chilled, then on to the hush room where we were greeted with a smoothie, water and a small flapjack. Think I fell asleep there. But that is what we wanted, to relax completely and that's what this team did. Really clean and friendly. Will definitely book again

We celebrated our son's wedding here on the 30th October 2021. The setting is just stunning, with wonderful grounds and views. All of the staff were wonderful and really helpful and friendly, which made our stay even better. For the past two years, we have made trips to Armathwaite for planning meetings with the wedding co-ordinator, Sarah. Sarah was amazing and helped us realise our dreams for the wedding - we feel very lucky to have had her to help with the finer detail.
It is because of the fabulous experience we have had with the accommodation, ambiance, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff that will take us back to Armathwaite Hall for family holidays.

Enjoyed afternoon tea courtesy of one of our staff members, what a wonderful place. Afternoon tea was a delight! Beautiful grounds to wander around and try burn off some of the calories we loaded ourselves with! The reason for not awarding 5 stars is the room we were served in, where the piano is located has secondary double glazing affording spectacular views! Unfortunately to see them you need to view through many dusty cobwebs and dead flies! Housekeeping take note

My friend and I visited today for lunch and were welcomed by the kitchen porter. Unfortunately I failed to get his name. His customer service is outstanding! We were looking for a suitable disabled parking space as my friend is a wheelchair user. He directed us to the suitable place then even took us to the restaurant where we were to have lunch. Following a delightful lunch with lovely staff we went to the lounge for coffee.
On departure the kitchen porter magically appeared to check we had had a lovely time and that everything was ok. He was wonderful and is a fantastic asset to the team. Thank you so much. We will be back soon for afternoon tea when hopefully our magical angel will reappear. :) :)

You feel totally safe with the recommendation that the Hotel has put in place to keep their guests and staff safe. Staff are great, very pleasant and obliging. Breakfast is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait a while, its worth the wait. We got an up grade in room which was marvelous so clean and well maintained. Most of the room has undergone a renovation over-all, so spot on. It is a good base to explore the lake district, so many thing to do and see.

This hotel is beautiful and set in stunning surroundings. The staff are superb, so helpful and attentive. We had a small issue with our room and were quickly moved to a new room. Nothing was too much trouble. If you stay, it's well worth exploring the grounds and taking a short walk down to the lake. Our evening meal & morning breakfast were both very tasty and well cooked.
We used the spa facilities during our stay. The pool is big enough for a good swim and the outdoor hot tub also nice and relaxing. The temple spa products provided in the room are high quality. It's those little touches which go the extra mile

This is by far the nicest place you could possibly stay in England. The food is spectacular, the building itself is warm and inviting, the multimillion pound investment in a new spa area was worth the money. The grounds are beautiful and it's just a stone throw away from Kezwick. I cannot fault this hotel, and I go every year. No clue how this is only a four star establishment.

Not the cheapest place you will ever stay but wow, one of the most beautiful, set in the most amazing countryside. You can see the peaks of Skiddaw from the hotel and the views down to Bassenthwaite Lake, which I think is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District (and the only one with the word 'Lake' in its name - interesting bit of trivia for you there!) They only have 42 rooms but each room is individual.
The suites are amazing, the the Tower suite even has its own old stone staircase up to its private terrace. The building is 4 centuries old and used to be a private stately home. It is now owned privately by a famly who have been there for three generations now. The hotel is pure class.
