One of the Furness peninsulas gems. The hotel was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and dates from 1910 and is constructed in a Neo Elizabeth style. It's located on the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness and set in beautifully maintained grounds totalling 14 acres of woodland and gardens. The cistercian ruins of Furness Abbey are close by and well worth a visit. The hotel is probably the best wedding venue in the area, with food quality to match.

An absolutely beautiful hotel with friendly staff that treated us like royalty. A beautiful clean room and a gorgeous breakfast in the morning. We definitely will be staying again.

Pleasant experience for our two nights here and stayed in the cavendish lodge which was not in the main building and near the left carpark. checked out early the next day and staff was kind to allow us to take away some (delicious) bread for our trip :-)

My daughters husband hired The Great Hall for my daughters 40th 5th Feb 2022. Can I just say how fantastic the Staff were (Archie and Ellie) helped me decorate or should I say they decorated the room beautifully and were their through out the evening, the buffet was fabulous. Great night to remember thank you

Lovely and friendly property. Visited for the wedding, we were a large group which is always hard to manage. Would like to say a special thank you to a young guy Archie who helped a lot with the service on the first night. He has great organisation skills which we could notice ourselfs. Thank you Archie the Abbey House must be very proud to have you and you deserve recognition. Also thank you to Laura for all the help planning. Ales

It's lovely, staff were great, rooms lovely, no issues. The restaurant let's it's down a bit. Service is a little slow but everyone seems to be racing around which points towards poor leadership. Last night Lee was being had a go at by a waitress in front of us for not putting the music on when he was clearly busy serving guests which wasn't appropriate.

A very welcoming hotel with staff who were friendly and made sure we had a lovely experience whilst staying there. With three weddings on three consecutive days we were still accommodated and service was exemplary. The Christmas decorations were outstanding, outside particularly beautiful. Despite the weather being wet and wild we were warm and comfortable. Would recommend this hotel. Well done everyone.

What a fantastic hotel - the room, the breakfast and especially the Staff - a real credit to Barrow. Also felt really safe. We were born in Barrow, but moved away 40 years ago, so when we visit, we normally stay with family / friends. Because of Covid-19, wanted to keep people safe. A real treat and so handy to visit the southern lakes or the lovely South West Cumbrian coast.

The building itself and the entrance from the road, when decorated for Christmas, was amazing. Very friendly staff and the rooms were immaculate. Would happily stay again when in the area.

A very beautiful place to stay The rooms are excellent and lovely grounds perfect for a wedding and many other occasions. My partner is vegan and unfortunately there was nothing on the menu's for her So in the evening we went out and found a very lovely place And with going out we ventured around Barrow in Furness to find the Forum an events venue and we even got tickets for Totally Tina which definitely made our stay.

I think if they put in more thought about the vegan menu's it would have been 5 star. It's definitely a welcoming hotel The prices are a little expensive though I suppose it's what's to be expected!

Wow I truly have no words how abbey house went above and beyond for us, from reception staff, to bar team, to waiting on staff each and every member was so kind, welcoming and looked after my whole party. Most of all the wedding team are just amazing if you want to get married this is the place, we took over the whole past for the weekend as everyone traveled to the venue, so Friday night, Saturday wedding and Sunday night, every member made our weekend with there energy, service and hard work, as it mustn't be easy 2 weddings on Friday and pre wedding party but you wouldn't have known.

And then our day on Saturday the team helped capture the day, everyone one was saying how amazing the venue and staff were and that it was truly best weekend ever. I can't wait to go back and see them all again soon. Just amazing from start to finish and I appreciate everything everything everyone did for myself and my hubby and all our friends and family.

You created the magic, rooms amazing, room service amazing, food amazing by the fab chef just 100% recommend the amazing Abbey house team. Thank you from the bottom of my heart your support went truly above and beyond. We will be back soon and hopefully see all the same faces. Honestly the best Much love Shana xxx

This was such a beautiful hotel. The gardens and entrance were really something else. I was a little surprised when we checked in we was not actually in the hotel but a little house which had been renovated into 4 hotel rooms a short walk away. I did request if possibly we could be in the hotel instead due to weather but they were fully booked. Despite this, good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Starters were delicious, mains were average. Breakfast the next morning also average. But overall a really gorgeous looking hotel and surroundings.

Stunning grounds of this venue. It was worth the very long drive to get there. Friendly staff, accommodating. We were there for working and coming and going (quietly) at odd times and had no issues. The train station is about 6 minute drive away (both of them) everything is car taxi and a long walk. Only thing I would say. Breakfast when we were there started at 7am which was took late for all of us. Probably fine for most I'd assume.

Abbey House Hotel is a former private house built in later Victoria times. It is set a well manicured gardens with adequate parking spaces. The parking does not inhibit the beauty of the gardens. It is well and suitably furnished to a high standard. There are many original features within the hotel its self. I have visited on several occasions and have always been impressed with the standards of service and efficiency of the staff.

It is an ideal house for weddings and any other celebrations that you may want to celebrate. On y most recent visit I ate at Oscars restaurant. This has a varied menu suitable for all dietary or personal choice of diet. The food did take a little while to arrive but it was well cooked and delicious. The service was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make this visit outstanding. I would recommend both stay at the hotel and dining at Oscars restaurant.

Would like to be able to give 5 stars but if only the dinner menu was as good value as the very good breakfast. Instead its overpriced for the quanity of food provided. In all other respects the rooms, the ambiance, decor are very good. Most importantly I found the service and the staff to be excellant and most freindly.

Hands down, Abbey House is the best hotel in the Furness area. The "superior" rooms are too small, but upgrade to the deluxe rooms for more space. The rooms are fairly well appointed (Furness isn't exactly a tourist destination), and there are enough power points in the room. I would prefer they added USB charging. The bathroom is nice, but the shower sprays everywhere.

Seriously - they need doors on those showers. Breakfast is included, and is your typical English breakfast. The coffee is tolerable, but still bad. They have two types of toast - brown and white. The butter is amazing though, and that's worth it right there. If you get a chance, walk round to Furness Abbey - it's easily accessible from the Abbey House grounds.
